why are mario and luigi called "the mario bros" or supermario bros? i dont understand? ye i havnt played much mario games so it might be a thing in the story line somewere but WHY are they called "mario bros" is marios last name mario? is luigis last name mario?

I would not exactly consider that film part of the Mario canon. Unless you also want to except that Toad is a Texan street performer, Mario and Luigi are from Brooklyn and that Goombas are giant reptiles with small shrunken heads.

But, as others have stated, if we accept facts from the film, there are many other inconsistencies we'd also have to accept (which we wouldn't like to). The film is only loosely based on the video game, and things like giving Mario and Luigi a last name was for the sake of making a real life adaptation of the video game (that is, they couldn't just have a couple of last nameless plumbers in real life), so they gave them simple last names as a real life adaptation, that is all.

Therefore we cannot conclude from the movie that their last names are Mario.

People have already stated this, so yeah... We can let this go now.

Well they are brothers!

During theirvarious stints as professional wrestlers, Mario worked under the name Captain Lou Albano and then later shaved his head and appeared as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Luigi first appeared as the Brooklyn Brawler before adopting the more popular persona as The Rock.

I have a weak memory about Mario beeing Luigis father in that movie......:shock:

Personally i consider the Mario brothers last name to be Segali. Mario Segali and Luigi Segali. Since it was the last name of Nintendo of Americas Landlord; Mario Segali. Which Mario is based on.
