I've had my DSi for about half a year and after about two months of using it the triggers started to stick... now they don't work at all. That would be fine, but since so many games require the L and R triggers my DSi is practically useless now. Has anyone else experienced this? The reason I'm asking is because I'm going to have to buy a new DS; I was wondering if a lot of people are having this problem... if they are, I'm getting a DSLite.

I've had my DSi since it's midnight launch, and the L & R buttons are just fine on mine.

I think I've heard of much more problems like this with the DS Lites over the DSi's though.

No problems with my DSi. I also agree with YoBrandino in that the DS Lites have had more L & R issues reported (so far at least) than the DSi systems. If you've only had your DSi for half a year, you should still be under warranty. Call Nintendo and have it repaired.

i'm sure you won't have to buy a new ds, though. try popping those triggers off, cleaning them and then putting them back on. hell, is youre warranty still good? I think nintendos stuff comes with a one year, so try that. but before getting a new one, id try cleaning it. its possible theres just some dust or crap in there. happens.

The right trigger works once every five smashes, the left one doesn't work at all. I'm thinking that mere dust could not be doing this.

Should I smash it with a hammer?

I highly advise against this. I have anger problems and smashed two of my ps3s with a hammer...i regretted it, especially being a 45 year old jobless man. :(

Hint taken.

my 10 months old DSi works just fine, no button related problem(or any problem at all), have you tried blowing through the gaps of the shoulder buttons? I read somewhere before that that method works for some DS lites maybe that'll work for the DSi too

Same thing was happening to my son's DSi last week. The R trigger wasn't sticking like yours, but it would not recognize the input. It drives my son nuts now when he plays mario kart since he cannot do the powerslide maneuver. Does Nintendo have a warranty on things like this? I cannot find the paperwork that came with his DSi.
