Ive learned not to get my hopes up on sonic games. Even though the team is aware of past games it still isnt enough for me. Im skepticalsmallcaplegendDid you enjoy Secret Rings?
This actually sounds like a great game --- I like the fact that you control Sonic's movements with the nunchuck (The controls for Secret Rings was on Rails and I didn't really like it though) and also being able to share items via Wi-Fidespa1r_fact0rYeah, Secret Rings didn't control right until you had purchased a whole lot of skill upgrades.

It was an ok game for me but all the hype and high hopes that goes into sonic games never get delivered. I know this game sounds great but Im going to wait till reviews
I'm very excited for the game in general, but I'm a little worried about why we've seen nothing except some fuzzy scans from the Wii version. But still, ONM UK said that SEGA plans to utilize the Wii to the best of its potential in terms of graphics and control.I have not played Secret Rings but I am planning on picking this one up. Seems to be that Sonic is taking a new and more in depth direction for the better, with reputation involved and so on. What do you all think about Sonic Unleashed?

That's perfectly understandable.Heck yes, it's going to be great. I'm excited for it. The team is aware of the franchises past missteps and is working hard to avoid those traps.
Also, Secret Rings was a good game so I would expect this to be better. With the new info provided, it seems like it's on the right path to rectifying the mistakes of Secret Rings and other Sonic games.
Great so far. Waiting for more info (maybe a video). Looks like Sega's back-up plan in case Unleashed flops (seeing that it uses the 2D-3D style).N-OneYeah, I'd love to see some gameplay videos soon.
Yeah only thing I'm worried about is how responsive the game will be to the wiimote... you're playing Sonic after all, the fastest character in nintendo history, so I'm guessing you will need to have a pretty fast response with the wiimote if you want to keep going at that speed, and maintain safety.
I'm sensing that you will need to have the wii motion plus to get the full potential out of this game... which is horrible since the $40 attachment is such a ripoff.
I doubt WiiMotion Plus will be required. This sounds a lot more like the Zelda battle system, but less precise and more fast.Yeah only thing I'm worried about is how responsive the game will be to the wiimote... you're playing Sonic after all, the fastest character in nintendo history, so I'm guessing you will need to have a pretty fast response with the wiimote if you want to keep going at that speed, and maintain safety.

Not just combat, I'm talking about running through the levels. Homing attacking floating robots in order to cross endless pits, running at inhuman speeds while timing jumps and turns in obstacle courses, etc. This is what Sonic is all about.

It controls with the Wii remove and analog via the nunchuk. And you run at ridiculous speeds.Sounds a bit like the new Zelda we have benn wanting....
Except, of course, you play as Sonic.

If they do this right, it will be very cool. If they set it up so that you can hold the sword to the side, above you, and infront of you and destroy enemies while running at high speeds we may have a classic here. Never played secret rings, but hopefully this will be even better.
Now, if they just put Sonic CD on there, it would be perfect even if the rest of the game was terrible.
You should definitely give Secret Rings a shot. You can find it at many retailers for 20-30 dollars. If they do this right, it will be very cool. This or Unleashed could be my first Sonic game since the Genesis, and I didn't even buy those myself.k_smoove
If you haven't played any 3D Sonic games, I wouldn't start with this one. Pick up a used copy of the GC games or something. Most people agree that they aren't good.
the items system, skills system and multiplayer all sound like cons rather than pros. Sounds like too much crap to have to keep up with. The skills system definitely brought Secret Rings down as did the equally convoluted mission structure.whoozwahThe multiplayer can't really be seen as a negative because it can't affect the single player no matter how good or bad it is. And they specifically said that the skills system wouldn't be nearly as intrusive this time.
doesnt seem like anything to get excited about im calling a 5.5-7 on gamespot rating and a 7-7.5 from ign. I have much more hope for unleashed which isntt saying much. webbutIGN was actually much harder on the last Sonic game than Gamespot was. But if Gamespot gave the last a 7.6 and this one seems to improve upon all of its flaws, I don't think a 5.5 is even in the question.
If this flops, give Sonic game development to Prope (Yuji Naka) or have the next Wii exclusive Sonic be directed by Shigeru Miyamoto.N-OneI don't think that it will flop, based on Secret Rings. But yeah, I would like to see Naka-san involved in more Sonic games regardless of how the next wave of them turns out.
The problem I'm having is that there's a lot of Sonic games that get this whole "This will revive the series" and it turns out well... bleh. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 plus the Secret Rings were good, but not quite the diamond gem lots of gamers are seeking.
Sonic Unleashed will not be that good due to the intro of Sonic the Werehog and the probability of other characters being required to play (Shadow, Knuckles, Tails, etc.)

Gamespot usally underates Ign usally over rates. this one goes with all the other sonic games in the i'll wait and see pile. Sega hasnt re earned my trust yet although i really hope the game is worth all thr prase u give it
I think Sonic is the most played out franchise in history. It's time has come and passed.tallicfan20Mario's been around longer than Sonic. And it's time will never pass.
I think Sonic is the most played out franchise in history. It's time has come and passed.tallicfan20I sincerely disagree. There are still good Sonic games coming out, even if there are some crappy ones to accompany them. I mean, seriously. Crash Bandicoot? Spyro? Madden? Final Fantasy? Those are all more played out than Sonic.
-The game is being developed by the Secret Rings team, not the Shadow the Hedgehog team
-The game is not going to be rushed out for a holiday release
-Playing as Sonic's friends is an option, but it is NOT required by any means
-Sonic will be controlled via Wii remote and Nunchuk
-Most enemies are defeated with a simple flick of the Wii Remote to avoid slowing down gameplay
-You gain points towards knighthood by helping citizens
-Your reputation takes a hit by "smiting civilians"
-Deep equipment system, with each article of clothing providing specific advantages and disadvantages
-Jen Senoue is composing the music (which is great, because Secret Rings had terrible music)
-More than 200 items; some items can be combined with others to make new ones
-You can trade items with friends via WiFi
-The skills system from Secret Rings is returning, but it is going to interrupt gameplay a lot less
-Each stage has multiple branching paths
-The camera will pan between 2D and 3D, ala Sonic Unleashed
-Multiplayer mode is likely coming
-Power meter is built up through destroying enemies. Once filled, you can unleash devastating combos
-The team says they're keenly aware of the mistakes of past Sonic games, and have vowed not to release this game until they feel it is worthy of the Sonic brandfamicommander
