That's the lazy way out

Twilight Princess already showed how bad a game can be when you're lazy

There's no reason whatsoever

there should definately be GOOD voice acting. in fact, its really a shame that the series hasnt picked it up already. midna would have been a much better character with a good voice actress to support her. but yes, i do think that link should remain a silent hero.

that's a typical answer you'll get, but my answer is why not. it's now, almost 2009, voices in games are basically in all the games except for nintendo's titles (I'm very broad about this so don't jump on me). But I want a new experience from zelda. the jump from 2D to 3D was amazing, and now i want a whole another way to play zelda. whatever nintendo does, ill buy it either way.

What?

Adding things like the dog and the dark world.

They were awful and were lazy ways to try to advance the series.

The core should have been strengthened. His role in the world should have been strengthened.

Voicework past what we have now would just be another lazy way trying to advance the series

Miyamoto wanted to keep Link silent so that you will be able to associate with him. The intention is that you will feel like you are Link when you play the game.

If they gave him a voice, 99% of all people won't be able to relate to him (the 1% consists of people who will have the same voice as him).

You can't compare a gameplay element like the dark world or the wolf, with voice acting.

It's not like if they added voice acting, Miyamoto would be jumping on stage at E3 saying "it's got voices now!!!".

It would be an addition, not a lazy attempt to advance the series.

i could see that, but they could do something like mass effect, or fallout 3 where we have an option to pick what we want to say during a conversion. i know, people have their own different opinions on how he will sound, but nintendo hasn't tried it, and the franchise has been doing without voice in so long, it wouldn't hurt if they try. but to me though, i don't care. i just want another zelda.

Honestly, I don't see why not. Keep Link silent, but the rest of the world should be able to talk... it only adds to the immersion, which is something all game developers should be striving for anyway.

I'm perfectly content with text myself, but I think a speaking Hyrule world would appeal to more fans.

Only if its done like MP3. Keeping the main character quite, having subtitles, and not letting the conversation (for lack of a better term) progress until you hit the button so that you actually have time to read the subtitles.

this

link is the skinny farm kid that just so happens to save princesses and other world from damnation. hearing his strained adolescence would be painful while battling flaming leviathans, and mountainous nemesis. no voice for link, but zelda could have a voice!

I think the series would do well if it had va similar to that of MP3's. As long as they put effort into it and not make Link speak, I think it could turn out pretty good.

Well you must not have played MP3, the voice work in that was top notch. What are you going to say, that it wasnt developed by Nintendo, well neither was Disaster my friend. and Mario games are suppose to be funny, your not suppose to take the voices series.

Link should not talk, like Gordon Freeman, a man of few words, but for me, Zelda games needs some voice actors.

On a second thougth, Ganondorf shouldnt speak too, and probably Zelda, let the protagonist in mute.

No, actually. I would say that the voice overs for MP3 were more cheesy than Halo.

Another great example of terrible voice acting in a Nintendo game.

like others have said i think it should have voice acting just not link, but i wouldn't mind if you could choose a couple phrases or answers for questions other characters asked link so you could project yourself on to him even more while giving him a bit more interaction with world around him at the same time. But im not saying it should be overdone or in every conversation just a few instances and not just "will you bring me this link" and then you get a choice of yes or no.

Ok.

I mean, I always thought Bioshock, Mass Effect, Portal, God of War, Grim Fandango, MGS, Half Life 2, KotOR, Team Fortress 2, and Fallout had good voice acting, but no, I guess I just have awful taste.

Thanks for opening my eyes!

many people ask for an epic story voice acting would assist to build up story better i think voice acting is the way to go,without it would be another zelda game. nintendo should be smart enough to accomadate both sides of the party keeping link mute and have audio.

The game is a long way off.

Any info about it is a long way off.

Would it be so hard to cut back on the "new Zelda" threads? It just goes round in circles, quite tedious really.

Wait and see anyone?

Yes. If there is a need to have the dialog put it in words rather than just text. I don't think Link would ever need to talk though... unless they actually make dialog (not just choices) between him and the characters around him. And I don't see Link ever going the way of having a detailed RPG storyline in such a fashion anyway.

If the Zelda games have voice actors, I would be wary as Nintendo of America would hire actors of questionable talent and it would ruin the franchise. Look what happened to Sonic the Hedgehog and years before the noterious CD-i Zelda games. I just do not what something that is a problem in English-dubbed anime and games to appear again in the Zelda franchise. However, I am open to Japanese voice actors as they often do a better job than their Western counterparts.

This topic has definitely been overdone....oh well, nothing else to do. As for voice acting, it would seem like the next logical step for Nintendo if they wanted to make Zelda more immersive and realistic. And knowing Nintendo they will keep safe by doing it the same way they did MP3, NPCs talk and Link would be mute. The voice acting in MP3 was not bad, but it was pretty cheesy. Nintendo has the money, they need to use it to get some top notch voices for it.

After seeing those two now I'm super definite Link shouldn't have a voice. His hyaaah!s are good enough for me. As for the other characters, all i have to say is don't give Ganon a high-pitched squeaky voice. Its funny, but doesn't work with Ganon

Absolutely.....I will be VERY upset if the next Zelda game doesn't use voice acting. Not Link, but the rest is a must. Example: During TP when you get to Gannon's castle and he is talking right before you fight him...It was almost laughable when you see this big, bad Gannon stand there while the 'beeping' of text would scroll across the screen...followed by a scary and sinister laugh. That totally HINDERED the entire climax of the last boss for that game....that and the fact that the bosses were waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too damn easy...but that's a whole other topic. But the day Nintendo actually listens to its customers is the day pigs fly and donkeys play chess.
