The most interesting thing I took from the direct is that it's getting pre-order DLC but not for Splatoon itself, but rather Smash Bros.
Now I know it's only a Mii outfit, but I'm wondering if this is perhaps sign of bigger things to come? We have Star Fox coming to Wii U later this year, I could see some similar announcement been made, where Wolf will be offered as a pre-order bonus, and available in Smash at the launch of Star Fox, and then made available to everyone else a few weeks later, much like Mewtwo was.
Can't say I'm happy about how much of it they're finishing post launch though, at least the updates are free.
This is quite normal for these types of games. You gauge your audience and player base, take statistics in game of what is or isn't working, then proceed with updates with new maps, weapons, classes, events, etc.
I wonder how reviewers will handle this. Especially since the League mode will unlock when enough people hit level 10, and it seems like one of the main modes.
Previously, they reviews Nosgoth and gave it a 6/10. This is a 4v4 online game, and their review is already out of date given the updates since the start of the year. I can imagine the same thing happening here. There are a lot of updates within the first few months, so a launch day (or week) review will quickly go out of date.
