SSBB: I need some advice

My local library is having a tornament in 2 weeks. Im a pretty big noob at this game, so i don't know much about it. Is there any characters you would recommend? Any tips that will make me get used to the game?

Oh and by the way: Ive been playing super smash bros Melee for a LONG time, so will the characters that were in melee still have the same moves in brawl? Thanks a lot :D

All the characters from Melee that are in Brawl pretty much all have the same moves,you should try practicing in the Training mode with some characters.Michael0134567

Yeah, I had to do that, But i would recomend an all-round character if your not very good, like link or mario, I wouldnt try snake though, snake has a really steep learning curve, Pit is alsp decent, although he is cheap.

If you are good with Marth, I suggest do stock matches with him against Snake, Meta Knight and Bowser.

Each and every time you win, crack up the difficulty and watch how do you do. Fight Meta Knight to improve you dodge and quick attacks, fight Bowser to improve some strategies on how to knock out characters as he is the heaviest in the game so kicking him out with a good strategy and saving it for the final against anyone would help. Finally, fight Snake as your main opponent to see how good you are and to improve your all around skills.

Well i recommend Mario i got incredibly good with him and he always proved to be worthy that cape does wonders.I also tended to use Lucas,King Dedede and Captain Falcon, Lucas is really strong and is nothing like Ness(i never liked Ness).

Apart from that I like nearly all the characters except for a select 8 or 10, its just preference i suppose.

Ok, i did some practicing with Meta Knight over night, and ive gotten way better with him. But Marth is still my top character. Im just so used to him. Hes been my character for 3 years. And i may need a 3rd character. Any other suggestions?

Also heard that Lucario was good. Do you guys think the same?

Pit is a great character for newcomers.
1) He can fly- very helpful
2) He has a projectile which can come in handy
3) He has a shield which reflects other projectiles
4) His final smash is good

I have to agree. Pit is probably one of the best characters for inexperienced Brawlers. I suggest you steer away from the likes of Snake as he has the steepest learning curve in the whole game. But also, try out some of your good characters from Melee. Either way, good luck.

They have the same moves, with the exception of added effects to certain ones. i.e. Link's boomerang has a gust that can pull people in.

For me Brawl felt a bit different than Melee, so you should practice some brawl with the characters you were good at in melee.

Nobody can agree on one best character, but I like Toon Link. He's fast and easy to play.:DTheSmitto

Uhh....guys, i have some VERY bad news. I went to go register earlier today, I asked if i can use meta knight. They said "No, theres been a recently discovered glitch" or something.MetaKnight50
