9/11's an important day in our history, but it doesn't mean that other things can't occur on that day, even space craft/airplane related things. The airports stay open on that day. People fly, NY offices stay open... we remember, and life goes on. It's a non-issue as far as this release date.
People are way too sensitive...and look way too far into things... Life goes on following horrible events. there is little point in shutting everything down because something happened 10 years ago
Yeah I don't know what your thinking, the world cant shut down on 9/11. Not to mention a game about talking animals, having space battles make me think about 9/11 about as much any random episode of the Muppet's. Sepewrath
Agree 100% with you.
So would you be upset by Mass Effect 1 releasing on that day, will the whole final scene?
It's no big deal.
I dont think it really matters. People can associate any day with any moment that is important to them. The world does not revolve around the U.S. By your logic, they should cancel all flights in and out of the states because there is too much comparisons to those events of 9/11, but that wont happen.
I don't see it as a problem either. Reason I brought this up is because some lady at game stop today was complaining about it and the store owner was all " yeah you aren't the first. Nintendo has been getting a lot of angry calls." I'm just saying they should have seen that coming with the way people are.JamTKD
I find it VERY hard to belive Nintendo is getting a lot of calls because STAR FOX (a fox driving a spaceship, SPACESHIP) is releasing on 9/11. I think its just you backpedaling from making a stupid thread. Again, just my opinion...
There is nothing wrong with it releasing on that day. 9/11 happened 10 years ago, its time to move on.

-.- yeah I lied about a star fox thread. Your opinion is wrong. That experience at gamestop is what led me to making this thread. For all I know the gamestop guy could be lying to satiate the customer. If a mod sees this, feel free to lock this thread. It's turning into flaming.I find it VERY hard to belive Nintendo is getting a lot of calls because STAR FOX (a fox driving a spaceship, SPACESHIP) is releasing on 9/11.SRTtoZWay to underestimate the stupidity of the whistle-blowing masses.

He probably told her that just to make her happy so she wouldn't continue making a fuss about it. I really doubt that Nintendo has gotten many calls at all.
It's coming out in September 11th, 2011 because that's the date Nintendo believes is best.
It has nothing to do with the events from 10 years ago.
People need to stop being so sensitive. 9/11 was a terrible thing that happened to the US; it doesn't mean Nintendo is purposely putting out a Star Fox game on the 10th anniversary of it. Plus, it's a Sunday - Nintendo releases games on Sundays often.
If Nintendo changes the date to release the game on, the " terrorists " have won,
Just because somthing bad happned on that day dose not mean that people should have to be carfull about what they do on that day 10 years on,
It's more than 'just a date for U.S. citizens- to downplay the tragedy just because it was ten years ago is offensive. Of course, anyone taking offense to a videogame release date is just being ridiculous, but that's no reason to trivialize the event. Equally ridiculous were the decision to cut a whole scene from the first Spiderman, and contemplating changing the subtitle of the second LotR movie. Its not that I underestimate those morons, its that I have a hard time believing 1) Some kid who works at Gamestop automatically knows that Nintendo is getting calls from disgruntled parents and 2) that they really RELATE star fox to September 11th.
I'm not that gullible.

Agree 100% with you.
Normally I'd agree that it wouldn't be a big deal, but this year is the 10th anniversary of 9/11 AND it's the first 9/11 since Bin Laden was killed. It's gonna be a bigger deal this year. People are not going to be paying attention to the re-release of a game that came out in the 90's.
I don't think it's insensitive at all, for reasons that other people have already said. I just think it might be a poor business decision on their part.

Lol no.
It's a game about fox's, frogs, blue jay's, and other various animals having aerial battles. Seriously? I'ts not like theirs a stage thats set in NY and the Twin Towers could be crashed into upon the players choice. :/
Yeah, this is a terrible idea. Seriously, Nintendo, release it on just about any other day and avoid the bad press. You don't have to be a patriot to see this is in pretty bad taste. Maybe they want the publicity.
Or, yaknow...if they even realised this connection that only those who want to look for it are seeing, they could have realised that its not a huge deal in the endYeah, this is a terrible idea. Sept 11 is a sunday & NOA has a habit of releasing their products on Sunday. Almost all official Nintendo products are released on sundays in the US.

Awe c'mon Nintendo! I generally use amazon to get the best price and skip the tax, but my copy of Ocarina arrived a few days later that it should have. Either way, day one for me.
Okay, there's no connection... we ALL know that (I hope to God). It's just realeasing on a Sunday because that's what NOA does. I bet a LOT of other things are happening that Sunday and there is no correlation or anything to be upset about.
What needs to be addressed, however, is everyone on here saying "It was just a day that something happened" or "it was ten years ago." I'm not sure how many of you live in the US, but it was not just "some event." It was one of the darkest days in US history and marks the start of another terrible age of fear, not to mention the death of countless innocent Americans... and that's just from a general US citizen view. For people that have some kind of connection to it (I had family very nearly involved and it's very sensitive for me, I can only imagine what it's like for families that lost someone) it's even more intense. This thread should be locked at the very least so there are no more posts of that nature, but I think it should be deleted. This is an incredibly inappropriate subject to discuss casually, and seeing all the "people need to move on" posts ARE something to be upset about. The phrase that came out of the event was "Never forget," and people aren't going to, nor should they be expected to.
The Mythbusters message boards at Discovery.com have a policy of removing threads related to 9/11, and while Gamespot didn't need this policy as it wasn't something that was likely to come up in video game discussion, it seems like a good idea in this instance.
I'm not some super patriot or total "Made in the USA" wacco, but this is still aVERY sensitive subject for me... I can only imagine others would feel this way as well.
