So many years have passed. I still remember my younger version of myself in 2002 starting for the first time the Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker on my then brand-new GameCube.

Last few days I decided to buy the HD version of the The Wind Waker and as soon as I started the game I shed a tear or two.

Share me similar stories you may have.

As to the game, I must honestly say that Nintendo has done something more than excellent job in improving it visually and adding a tone of humour too. I read the tutorials in Orca's house and somewhere it said 'Don't play all night' & 'Don't hide your GamePad from your parents'.

Shading and lightning is excellent and the sound has been upgraded.

Oh.. All those years fellows... They pass so fast...

Hmm. Probably when I bought a Wii and played SMBW. Blew my mind and set my nostalgia meter to 10. I loved that game. The 4 player action was fantastic and it had excellent level design and its soundtrack is still excellent to this day. It was probably the most drawn into a Mario game since SMB3 when I was a small child.

windwaker was my OOT. i never had an N64 so i got a gamecube with the collectors edition of windowaker (which came with a disc with OOT and MM) and my jaw dropped. i hadnt played a zelda since a link to the past so....yeah. quite the upgrade.

it has also aged very well. the HD version is also a nice upgrade.

If they released a Mario Sunshine remake/remaster for Wii U, that'd definitely set my nostalgia meter to 10! I was kinda hoping that Nintendo would've done that instead of Twilight Princess :(

Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD and Link to The Past (virtual console) caused my eyes to water up. Three incredible games. Brought back many memories.

I got a warm nostalgic feeling from Majora's Mask 3D. I thought that was an excellent upgraded port.

I didn't like Wind Waker when it released on the Gamecube. I didn't like the cell shaded graphics. I felt that they were ugly at the time. I didn't like how easy the game was or how it took ages to get across that ocean. The remaster fixes all my gripes. The graphics are downright beautiful, I love Hero Mode, and that red sail is what I always wanted. The nostalgia factor wasn't really there, as I didn't have fond memories of the original release. Instead, I gained a new appreciation for Wind Waker.

As for Majora's Mask, nostalgia city. I was so excited when they announced that.

My sister bought The Wind Waker HD for me for Christmas. But since Christmas, I'd mostly been playing PS4 (which I really love as well).

But just recently, I dived into this game...and I felt the same way as the OP. I'd played the original on GameCube, but it looks wonderful in HD. It just looks and sounds gorgeous. This game is a work of art, and the attention to detail is really astounding.

Even when you're doing nothing in particular, and just exploring the ocean...wow. It's just beautiful. In some ways, this was the first Zelda I'd played in a while which really replicated the feel of the earlier 2D games in terms of having a really huge and mysterious world, where you aren't sure what you'll come across next. It feels like the world is brimming with secrets.

So, yes, I really love it. I think if you own a Wii U - and especially if you missed the original GameCube release - you owe it to yourself to buy The Wind Waker HD. It's a remarkable experience, and it's an example of Nintendo at their very best.

Yeah, that game is so full of warmth. One of the best atmospheres in gaming ever.

@djura: Thank you for your story and all the input fellows. Yeah I suggest it too, excellent game. Atm I'm after getting the Master Sword. That connection with the Ocarina of Time and the emptiness inside Hyrule Castle is undesribable.

I finished the game a couple days ago. The game is so simplistic, but bout every single thing feels rewarding. I got frustrated a few times with the dungeons and puzzles, but stuck with it and prevailed. To be honest, when i first started the game, i was all like, this feels overrated, feels like a 7. Then i started to get the hang of everything, game turned into an 8. But then i kept going and game turned into a 9.

After i finished the game, it ended and i missed a few things, i was thinking about replaying it and messing around taking selfies and Miiversing. The game is setup for nice replay-ability i feel, i can skip a bunch of what i already did. Guess would say this game is kinda a masterpiece.

@iandizion713: I think you raise a good point about how the game feels better and better as time goes by. Initially, I was a little underwhelmed by it, especially because it appeared late in the Wii lifecycle and I was already playing a lot of HD games on other platforms...so it felt a bit retrograde in some respects early on.

But the more you dig into it, the better it feels and the more you appreciate its great design.

That said, I'm really keen to jump into Breath of the Wild, and I'm really happy to see Nintendo take a new direction with the series.
