Ok, I purchased my wonderful DS lite almost a year ago at eb games. When at the register, the associate asked me if I would by the warranty. I refused, but he was persistent stating that the DS screen would eventually scratch and this warranty WOULD cover scratches to the screen as well as accidental drops. This past weekend, my 3 yr old son got a hold of it at used a pen on the screen as a stylus. I then proceeded to take it back to eb games and they informed me that the warranty only covers manufacture defects and not personal damage. I was irate because when I had bought the system, I purchased the warranty SPECIFICALLY for the screen protection. Since Eb games, will not honor the warranty without a manufacture defect, is there a way to damage your ds to the point where it just freezes or something. I love my ds and I dont really love the idea about purchasing a new one. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

your ds probably still under one year warranty by Nintendo. just go to Nintendo website, and insert your serial number at the warranty box under the costumer service. i bet it still Valid.

They lied then.  Scratches can't be taken out of the screen, so obviously it can't cover scratches.  I'd sue.... or at least make my point to the customer service reps of EBGames.

I know I will get ridiculed for this, but the warrnaty was probably for stylus scratches that occur. Unlike a pen, they are relativly minor. That was probably what they meant when they told you. Sorry

Looks like they sold the warranty for profit knowing that they wouldn't cover it or something like that. I'd talk to the manager about it if I was you.

The original purchaser is entitled to this warranty only if the date of purchase is registered at point of sale or the consumer can demonstrate, to Nintendo's satisfaction, that the product was purchased within the last 12 months.

GAME & ACCESSORY WARRANTY
Nintendo warrants to the original purchaser that the product (Game Paks and accessories) shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of three (3) months from the date of purchase. If you bothered to read through the original post, you'd know that he was duped into buying it by the sales rep. That he was told incorrect information by the employee just to sell the warranty. So if the employee straight out lies to sell a warranty, I'd say that puts EB in the wrong. To reply to the original poster, your best bet would be to open up the DS somehow and mess with the circuit board.

Technically that wouldn't be the systems's fault, Like I said you should call Nintendo. You'll be surprised what they can do.

I don't live in the US, but when I went there, I bought a PSP and they offered me a similar warranty, I didn't buy it.
I wouldn't recommend buying those warranties, as they don't really cover anything else besides what Nintendo can do for you.
This warranties will never replace screen scratches, not even dead pixels!!! you can see it in the manual, they say that dead pixels are 'normal' on a plasma screen, so I really don't see the point of buying a warranty that you already have with Nintendo.

And for the guy who wants him to open his DS and mess with the circuits, I think that won't work either, the moment you open your DS you lose complete warranty for it, you won't get a replacement and it won't work anymore... Maybe you should talk to a manager of eb games or directly mail nintendo, I'm sure something can be done. Good Luck!

When going back to get a replacement ALWAYS blame it on software cause it is not questionable if its true or not and it ain't your fault its the manufacturer. I've returned many things from mp3s and even a 32 inch LCD what i'm most proud of is my 360 I've returned that 3 times (luckly they never checked the warranty sticker at furtureshop) I tried "modifing it" 3 times and failed fourth time it worked.

so basicly go back to eb and tell them it keeps turning off when you play or something...

I don't see how they will blame you for that

Just blow the fuse, it is quite simple, there are diagrams all over the net, take your soldering iron, or just something hot, put it by its side, and melt it. Or you can disconnect the ribbon cable so that the screens don't turn on, that way if they still don't honor it, you can just plug the cable back. And of course, the alternate firmware on the DS, purposely install it incorrectly, and it will give you some screens that won't turn on. I didn't say anything.

OK, this is what I did.  They would not take my DS back as it had major physical damage.  I then smashed it against my bed post, microwaved it, and left it in the rain! It then didn't power up and they traded it in no problemo :)

threaten to call their customer assitance line and give their store a bad review for making false claims about you warrenty. see how long it then takes for them to replace your ds.
