They have a open close mechanism that counts 365 open and closses. So that if a person closses it and opens it once per day it will break and they will miss their expoirey date. I always knew they were up to no good!garyisthebest
geez, I open and close mine like 10 times a day sometimes
OMG!!!!! same thing happend to me.. look at this.. not even funny... here pic of my ds
oh yeah.. i super glue mine.. although sometime it gets off.. i super glue it again... thinking of geting a replacement shell...
Big question here...
What is up with all the DS-Lite-hinge-crack topics? I don't understand how and\or why this is happening to so many people. I have had my original DS since the DS was released in the US. I use it almost everyday, and often multiple times a day. Other than some scratches on the case, no problems ever. Why is there some hinge problem with the lite?
thats exactly what happened to mine....and of course it was one day after the warrentty..so they said they can fix it for 100 or so dollars plus shipping stuff..so..i might as well keep super gluing it ill it doesnt work anymore..then buy a new one..OMG!!!!! same thing happend to me.. look at this.. not even funny... here pic of my ds

If you were to send it to Nintendo they'd probably blame it on the flash cart XD

same thing happend to mine. got it replaced for free from nintendo. the same thing is happening to my cousins ds lite. his warranty is up so i told him if it does result in this which it will just buy a replacement shell off the internet. they cost anywhere from 10 to 40 canadian and most sets come with the screw driver and stuff you just have to do the work yourself which isnt that complicated.

mine tooWow, quite a lot of peoples hinges seem to be broken exactly the same way the guys pictures are.
Now i'm not sure if I want a Nintendo DS Lite, because if there's this many people having this problem, I might just buy a Original Nintendo DS..
My original Nintedod DS ("Phat") has not encountered this problem at all and i've had it for a very very long time. Buying another Original Nintendo DS, i'm guessing then.

Try using contact cement as opposed to super glue, it should hold longer
Too bad for all of you I had my DS for three years and it works perfectly!! I think the DS original has better defense than the light but th light has a better screen than the ds THREE YEARS!! :D
are you sure you're not being rough with it?
I had my original ds for about twoyears and I treated it so bad I always open and close it really hard banged it and other horrible things but it works just fine ,still there are little scratches and my teeth marked on itItach123
You....You....You bit into your DS?
But how did you get the crack anyway? Did you open your ds more than the hinge allowed?
I mean i treat mine very carefully and never dropped it once

mine tooDang I was thinking of replacing my ds phat for a ds lite but this sort of turned me off...
I mean, the other day I was charging my ds (phat) and i tripped on the wire...It flew up and was smashed against the wall and fell on the floor.I had no problem, not even a scratch O_o
well..last summer..at exactly august 3rd..i bought the white ds lite. On july 4th of this year i got a tiny crack on the hinge and thought..i might call nintendo and see if they can repair it. Well i went on vacation with it and it held up so..i decided to just ignore the crack. Well at exactly august 4th..my ds lite cracked and the top half of the ds isnt stable. it pissed me off. So i called nintendo and of course my warrentty is 1 day off and they said with that damage they can fix it for 100 plus shipping. wtf....might as well buy a new ds lite.. So i decided..lets try super glue. I spent about 3 hours working on it and now it works perfectly fine ..nothing sticks or anything. so..o well..does anyone else think that was kinda weird price???..i mean..i might as well super glue it and if it doesnt work..buy a new ds..ok..ok..i just thought i would get ur opinons on it..ianp_91
Good for you. (not meant in a harsh manner)
I really don't think I would base my decision on this or other threads. Remember there are over 50 Million DS's out there, and this is next to nothing in comparison. Mine is as good as new and I have had the Lite since launch day. What I wonder is *how* they are played as in: Have they ever been dropped? Slammed? Played with rough? Sat on? hehe I mean these sound like funny questions, but let's face it not everyone goes easy on there handhelds.Wow, quite a lot of peoples hinges seem to be broken exactly the same way the guys pictures are.
