Super Mario 63 DS help. Can not get key to middle second floor.

I can't get the key to enter the second floor of the mansion to get Wario. The ign guide tells me I need over 30 stars to get the key. I have over 50 stars.

Can anyone help me on what I haveor havnet done yet?

Anyway, you need to get 30 stars, then beat bowser in the basement
Thats the way to do it on Super Mario 64 DS anyway, don't know about Mario 63
