There is no way to defeat thwomps only if you have a mushroom as for the other Rock enemies (don't know there names) you will have to get close to them to make them bodyslam you when they hit the floor you do a ground pound on them. hope this helps
Your description is very vague, so I will try to offer some expert advice: Certain enemies can be defeated easily by running around them in a continuous circle (eyeballs, snowmen, etc.) Certain enemies can only be defeated as MEGA MARIO by grabbing the red mushroom. Certain enemies can't be defeated no matter what. Chain Chomp can be stunned ONLY by Yoshi when he spits an egg directly at the Chain Chomp (works on the bosses as well).
