Which game owned more. I think Zelda did. As much as SM64 was good OoT had more adventure. I made this topic because it took me a while to think about which game was better.
Zelda OoT is better as a game in my opinion, but Mario 64 paved the way to the future... and it's easier to pick up and play. Zelda - 9.8 Mario 64 - 9.79 EDIT: wait, i take that back... I remember having WAY more fun playing Super Mario 64, the catchy music, flying around, swinging bowser... hell yea!! Mario 64 - 9.8 Zelda - 9.79 :P
i think it would be a tough decision to make and i was just thinking about that today because i was thinking about buying one on the vc so i personally think it would be a dead tie
Zelda: OoT by far. Mario 64 doesn't hold up well today. Countless platforming games have come since then that have surpassed Mario 64 in every way imaginable. Very few adventure games have surpassed OoT, if any at all. Not only that but OoT was better back then as well.
Both great games, but I have to side with Zelda OoT. Just for the fact that is was near perfect and more memorable. But Mario 64 has nothing to be ashamed about.
I have been pulling Mario 64 out of the closet for at least 6 years and each time i play it i love it.... but zelda ocarina of time is amazing too but i think mario is more exciting after the 1st time u play them
If I were basing my answer on the lasting effect after I beat it, Zelda blows Mario out of the water. Everything in its presentation was mind-boggling for its time, and still is. The feeling you get at the end when that certain someone does something for Link (for those very few who have not beaten it, no spoilers). The smaller things really got me.
If I were basing my answer on the overall impact it had on the gaming industry, Mario edges Zelda in that aspect. However, that is not my personal opinion. My personal opinion is that I had a blast playing OoT, and I still do on my Wii, even though I also have Mario 64 on my DS (proud to say, I have collected every star)
OOT was better, but it came out later, but Mario made platformers the way they are today and even holds up well but on the other hand it's the same with OOT made the adventure puzzle what it is today and holds up well to. For me it's a hard choice but I have to go with OOT because I love Zelda more than Mario anyway.
This is like comparing peanut butter and jelly. Both are amazing to put on bread. But in the end peanut butter is just better. Jelly has nothing to be ashamed about. In this case OoT is peanut butter. In my 18 years of gaming it is the best I have ever played and probably ever will.
