Well you CAN save but you have to beat a castle or one of those crazy flying ship things. It's pretty annoying- probably one of my least favorite things about that game. Hope that helps. Just fyi, I just got this for the GBA and you can save at any time. Much less frustrating. Just saying, it's worth checking out.
You can suspend the game, by pressing home, and going to the Wii menu.epayps2
This. Do not turn off while in the middle of the game. you will start from the beginning again. Instead go to the wii menu by pressing the home button and then turn it off.
