I'm interested in the game. I've read the review and it says that it's laid out like an RPG with platformer elements. That kinda puts me off. But I've heard it the other way around as well.

So from those who have it...is it a platformer or an RPG at it's core?

I'm not an RPG kinda guy. I don't mind if a game has elements of it in small doses and doesn't make me dig through a lot of menus...

No its mainly a 2d and 3d platformer with RPG elements like when you kill bad guys you get experience and level up but that just means when you use magic you will do more damage or your defense will go up or your speed but no its basically the other paper marios without the RPG elements at all exept for magic and leveling up for some reason

Platformer for sure.

"RPG elements" means that you level up and are able to buy some health potions and so forth. There is minimal RPG-type management needed. The only real management you have to do is making sure you have a few health items on you, what little helpers you have, and which party member you have out.

Enjoy.

Read my review if you'd like some more thoughts.

it basically has the turn based battles taken out and replased with real time platforming.

so it's realy like a oldschool mario platformer with rpg elements. like whenever you kill and enemy or do something special like that, you get more score, which realy acts as your expierience. when you level up, you have a higher max health and you also do more damage every time you hit an enemy. the ecpierience is universal, so each charecter will have the same ecp and level. this is good because you can't overuse one cahrecter, and abuse the others and make them useless.

you willl ahve to switch out charecters and pixies fairly often, so you'll see the menu often, but everything can be found and changed quickly, so don't worry too much about that.

theres also alot of puzzles you have to figure out.

and that's basically it.

well that sounds more like a game I would play then. I've been really hesitant about this game because I knew the past games had been RPGs at their core.

From your description though, it sounds like they've taken classic mario platforming, put it in Paper Mario's universe and added the flip move and some leveling up that doesn't interfere with the game.

I just don't wanna be digging though menus. That's my main pet peeve in games. It takes away from the action imo.

'preciate the replies...

Once you get past the terribly long and dull intro, it's a great game.

There isn't a lot of RPG to it really it more of a platformer at heart. There is a lot of text to read through however, but a lot of it is vey funny. Its a great game and it takes a while if you want to find every thing in it.

Mostly a platformer, but if your in 2 minds I wouldnt recomend it (for what its worth) get the points and get classic Mario if thats the kind of game your looking for...

You dont use the menus much (at least I didnt), there is a lot of (some times funny) text. But I was hoping for a classic Mario and was disappointed. Finished it in about 18 hours though so I suppose it cant be too bad...
