Awesome, thanks for the heads-up, Mario Galaxy. I went and found a link to the Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct, so people can easily find it from here. You're welcome.
Well, I'll be working that night when it's on. Shame too, I could have had that Tuesday off. But, it's okay, Tuesdays usually are crappy for me.
I hope the first thing they do is announce a new title for the game. So tired of calling it 'Smash Bros.' without any specific title. I wouldn't mind if they changed things up and called it "Smash World" or "Nintendo Dojo", or "Fighting Bros." - something completely new.
@Ovirew:
Its called Super Smash Bros For Wii U, and Super Smash Bros For 3DS. It is a pun, Smash Bros 4 Wii U, Smash Bros 4 3DS...

Well that's stupid. But anyway I wasn't aware those were official titles.

Oh wow, I didn't think of it that way. lol
I kinda would have preferred a fighting related subtitle though, like Melee or Brawl. I'm pretty nitpicky about it. My friends and I are so used to saying "Wanna Brawl?" that we need a new short name for this entry other than "Wanna Smash?" haha
@KBFloYd: patient,my dear boy,incomplete roster detected;so...wait for it to complete.
In my view of this..I have good hopes it will come up with Ganondorf,Wolf,and the newer Pokémon Trainer(Kalos starters) as the last 3 characters to join the game,for the contents,let's hope there will be some new hand-picked stages from the earlier titles(retro stages like Smashville or Luigi's Mansion for example) for the rest...I'll wait for the Direct itself
I'm going to make a bold prediction. Release date: August 8th. Similar to New Super Mario Bros 2 in 2012 and Pikmin 3/Mario Luigi in 2013.
Holy crap, a Nintendo Direct that's content has been specifically described doesn't have people making wildly over-exaggerated expectations. Color me impressed. By now, we're usually predicting a Zelda and Metroid announcement.
I still remember the 3DS-specific Nintendo Direct, after which everyone was crying out -- "But where's the Wii U games?!"
I am guessing we will learn about a lot of newcomers!
they need to give a release date or it will be a fail :P
They also need to give the games proper names! I know it is nitpicking, but I hate the generic titles!
now that its been explained... im ok calling it ssbfor.
but if they go with a new name..yea it will be better.
Can't say much on how it might be named as,but I have 2 potential names,one for each obviously... the 3DS version would be named "Super Smash Bros. 4EVER" . The WiiU version might be "Super Smash Bros. Universe"..well,don't take these two names seriously,as this is how I might see it in the Direct
@Ovirew:

That still makes NO sense... It could just as easily be confused as a remake for the original Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS. Afterall, it's not like those systems haven't seen re-releases already with the Monster Hunter and Legend of Zelda series. It's not a pun... it's a completely uncreative title for a couple of similar games that are going to be released on two different platforms, fourth game in the series or not. If Nintendo DOESN'T change the name of the two games, I think it would prove to be an omen as to just how safe Nintendo intends to play for the time being.
As for the Direct itself, cool, I guess. I'm just not a fan of the Nintendo Direct approach in general, how Nintendo hypes them up, and how vanilla the presentation of the 'Directs' tends to be (and I like vanilla...). I'll come across the info one way or another, but I've reason to hold my breath for anything.
@Madmangamer364:
If people don't buy a game based off the name then perhaps its best if they rethink their life.
I doubt it will happen and it really doesn't matter much but I really hope they change the name. Wii U and 3DS.. just sound so plain and boring.

A poorly chosen name for a product has nothing to do with the way a person is living. It's really not the consumers that we should be concerned about here. Hasn't there been a stigma for the couple of years that the reason the Wii U wouldn't sell/hasn't sold very well is in part because of the name Nintendo has given it? As silly as I've found that particular notion from day one, it still doesn't change the fact that the name of a game or game system does hold some weight.
The problem here is that "Super Smash Bros. for *insert system here*" sounds completely uninspired for a game in such a popular series, and while it doesn't automatically mean that the game itself will be just as uninspired, it certainly doesn't give the game any sort of 'pop' either. Thinking it won't matter would be the same as thinking a terrible cover or an unfitting title for a new game wouldn't turn some people away. It's all part of marketing and at least trying to show consumers that there's something fresh and exciting to expect. On the contrary, what the Wii U and 3DS games have now as a title simply screams, "you've seen this all before elsewhere," which is not good.
And while I'm looking forward to seeing the new installments in the SSB series, I am concerned about how fresh the two games will be, based on what I've seen so far and how Nintendo has been handling other IPs recently. The lackluster name won't keep me from buying the game at some point, but it also isn't doing anything to convince me to get hyped about it. Trust me when I say that it's not part of some personal problem I'm facing at the moment, but rather another example of where Nintendo is failing to impress, even with its best and brightest brands on the plate.
if you want to watch this with a community..
tune into maximillian doods twitch...this guy lives for fighting games and he isnt a nintendo hater. he makes jokes once and a while but he genuinely loves smash.
here is his twitch. it will be live at 1 pm pst http://www.twitch.tv/maximilian_dood
supposedly francis at playeressence will have a twitch open... but there is no link..chk the site when the stream starts http://playeressence.com/
Do the Nintendo Directs have options for subtitles? Because I'll be watching this in class.
Oh 3pm PST??? Never mind.
WOO! Zero Suit Samus confirmed!
Glad to see that each transformation is it's own independent fighter.

As a veteran Mortal Kombat player, (the DS is shutting down it's wifi in a month), I'm gladly going to give this game a try.
for the glory and for fun modes are great options...
some complained that theres no online leaderboards...but i was never going to make the top ten anyway...we have leaderboards in call of duty and i never even look at it...only my friends stats.
Yeah a leaderboard is basically really only fun for those who break their neck to be in the top ten. This system will never allow them to know if their first or not, so I see why they wouldn't like that. Its looks good to me. The City Trail mode for the 3DS version should be a blast, I'm going to definitely enjoy that.
That was awful
What we learned...
The 3DS version and the Wii U version are launching at least 4 months apart
There's no online play between the two versions
You only get multiplayer options if you play with friends
So in other words it's the latest Nintendo game to shortchange it's players.

it says in the direct that 3ds/wiiu online connectivity features will be announced later.
and for lack of options in play anyone mode.... i suppose you are right... i mean the only way to achieve it would be the ability to make lobbies with custom settings. but that would alienate a lot of players.

I think that connectivity will be unlocking exclusive options in each game, you have the 3DS version it unlocks something in the Wii U version and vice versa.
Lol. Leave it to @Jaysonguy to be angry about an amazing Nintendo Direct.
Are you ever content?
What did you find amazing?
Was it the lack of online features, the delayed releases, or the no cross compatibility?
Delayed? Doesn't a game need to have a release date before it can be considered delayed?
Well the direct had a few interesting things in it. Glad to see For Fun and For Glory modes (For Tournament and Competitive players honestly) and the final destination custom levels for each stage is a good touch.
I like the custom movesets also.
I'm really glad that the characters will not be able to shift now.
I'm loving how they are switching the characters moves as well to add more uniqueness. This is what I loved about the original Smash. Every Character felt different.
I like this new pokemon character also. Very creative water based moves.
I'm getting this for WiiU as I really feel that the 3DS version should never have been made, now it's coming out before the WiiU version for some odd reason. I hope that once the 3DS version is out, that they stop limiting the WiiU version and really give the WiiU version alot more content because as of now, the 3DS has a bit more content.
Still waiting on Jigglypuff's announcement though.
Mother Brain is an assist trophy now, that is all kinds of awesome.
Overall, I'm pleased with what I'm seeing thus far and hope they give the WiiU version much more content than the 3DS version in the end.
Am I the only one that is utterly confused by Nintendo's decision to release the 3DS version before the Wii U version?
The fact that there is a 3DS version at all already means that the impact of the Wii U game on the system's sales will be diminished. Having it release before the console game only makes it worse.
The Wii U needs some help to boost sales, and Nintendo seems to have made a decision that works completely against that.
I really liked the announcements, though.

I will never come close to the top either, but leaderboards would be a nice feature to have. Are they confirmed to be out?
I prefer a point system like the one they have in place on the Mario Kart games. As long as they have something to indicate one's overall performance, I will be happy. Even if such feature will most likely tell me I such at Smash Bros. =P

Ah. I see. Either way, I was satisfied. I've never expected to see much in the way of fully-fleshed out online features -- nor do I care to get my ass beat by an 8 year-old.
I'm just glad a Nintendo Direct promoted as entirely Smash Bros. focused doesn't have people freaking out because they didn't announce any new games.
@nini200:
The 3DS holds back the Wii U version, don't expect the Wii U version to "obliterate the 3DS version" They will have almost the same amount of content, excluding music and such.
