This is why reviews are completely useless.HaziqonfireNo this is why certain games have no use for reviews. There are plenty of clear cut games like CoD: MW2 that are easy outline.
One game not being review friendly does not disprove the majority of games that completely benefit from informed reviews.

Regardless of what game it is, I find game reviews to be utterly useless because gaming 'news sites' and 'review sites' and very messed up. Hence why I use those 'sites' only to find out information about the game, see video and make a judgment for myself. Reviews mean nothing to me, considering a lot are also poorly written. This is why reviews are completely useless.HaziqonfireNo this is why certain games have no use for reviews. But there are good sites and very good journalist in the gaming industry among all the scam artists and biased reviewers. I guess its personal opinion but your going out on a ledge if you say there are absolutely no good journalist out there. The world of journalism in general flawed, so why such a high standard for gaming journalism something that is more segmented and unchallenged than mainstream news media. Journalism has no code of ethics like official professions such as lawyers and doctors. The truth gets twisted and often there is no repercussions.Journalism has no code of ethics like official professions such as lawyers and doctors. That could not be further from the truth. In fact their only job is to stick to the code of ethics in journalism.
Maybe the problem is that you think game reviewers are 'journalists'. Well they're not, they're critics. There's a huge difference. Anyone who puts personal opinion into their written work is not a journalist.

They stick to a code of ethics but not like doctors and lawyers and it shows. A profession withholds valuable information as a service, journalism is all about getting the truth out there. And ya you are right they are not journalist that is kind of what I meant when I said they are held even less accountable than mainstream news media. But there is great work done by some of these critics that is no different than a good journalist. Not all articles are opinion based and not all are reviews.Xplay 2/5. (as if xplay counts...)
goblaa
Always amazed to find out that there are still people who watch Xplay. Even more amazed when someone tries to defend it (obviously not saying you are goblaa, but it does happen sometimes).
The game seems to have its problems. Some reviewers just can't seem to get past those, others are less stressed by them.
And will some of you people stop calling game reviewers journalists. Seriously. I'd like to know how many of them graduated with a degree in journalism. I'd bet in all of the internet and magazines there are only about 5.

That's silly, Game Informer would never bash Nintendo in any way. x)
I pray that you are using sarcasm....
Haha, I sure was. ;)
Yeah game reviewers are critics not journalist, you know who else is a critic? everyone else. Journalist are people who are suppose to research and find the news, then report it in a completely objective manner. Critics are people who give subjective opinions on news handed to them. There's a huge difference there. X-play is bad even for a critic, I remember once hearing a guy on there say that the Ratchet and Clank devs are the only ones trying to keep the platformer genre relevant and the real kicker is just 20 secs earlier they were talking about Mario Galaxy. ^Even having a degree doesn't make you a journalist, like someone said, as soon as you take a subjective opioinated stand in your writing, your not a journalist regardless of what degree's you have. SepewrathYes and my bad on not being more clear. My point still stands, real journalism has its problems, what did you expect from a segment of that journalism.
I finished the game earlier today. It's probably the best game of the year to me, or shares the position with Little King's Story. I love the story of the game. It's surely one of the best stories ever told in a game. There are some twists that will make you go "what?" and in the end I was totally speechless. I love how the Wiimote acts as a flashlight. It feels so natural and simple.
I really hope this game sells so that we Wii owners will maybe get another Silent Hill game.
Mixed reviews are good because it reveals the flaws of biased review systems. Same thing happened with The Conduit and No More Heroes. Rent it, then love it or hate it.

Game Informer bashing another Wii game? How predictable, especially after Modern Warfare.nintendoboy16
Well, they gave A Boy and His Blob an 8 with an 8.5 second opinion. They don't rate all 3rd party Wii games low.
To me, based off of those scores the consensus is that it's a great game. More than half are above 8.0.
And for the record I write off any GameInformer review even before I hear it. Those guys completely suck and I can only assume that they review video gmeswith their hands tied to the chair, playing with their feet. Gamepro's about the same. And although they've pretty on the ball lately, for the most part I feel the same about 1up.
Heeeeeey what a coincindence! Those are the THREE reviewers tat gave an obviously great game bad scores......now what are the odds??
It's a game made for rent IMO, it's fantastic (especially for fans) in every way possible especially with the story and attention to detail but length was sacrificied in return. Really short and leaves you wanting more. Bottomline, a must play but not a must buy.
My general theory is that if a game gestmixed reviews it far more interesting than a game which ticks the right mainstream boxes and gets all good scores.
Everyone on the edge about this game should immediatly check out the Gametrailers review. While a little spoilery, I think it does the best job at judging this game and highlighting it's merits and flaws.
Fair, complete, and critical where it is appropriate. Although they too seem to have missed that you have all the time in the world to look at your map during the Nightmare sequences.
But still: Story 9.1, Gameplay 7.7 - I think that is a very fair assessment, and your enjoyment of the game will depend on what you value more.
See people here are so absolute. If they do not like something GameTrailers or IGN does then all of their articles and reviews a garbage without proof or reason. Some people do not realize as flawed as some of these game sites are, there are always exceptions and great work being done by individuals.Everyone on the edge about this game should immediatly check out the Gametrailers review. Isn't it a good thing for a game to have a variety of reviews with different scores, since each gives different viewpoints and different criticisms of the game?

It's a bad thing for those on the fence whether it's worth it or not, keeps them there even more.
Story 9.1
Lothenon
I'd give it a 10. It's the most disturbing plot in the history of the series but the catch is that it's subliminal and well-hidden, you need to sit down and give it some real good pondering (along with a 2nd playthrough) to get the idea. I find it so disturbing that IMO the game would've been banned and/or plot re-written had it not been hidden so well.
i disagree this is one of not only the best silent hill games but one of the best horror games in years for fans its a must buy and for fans of sh or horror games its not that short for a survival horror game and it have around 6 endingsIt's a game made for rent IMO, it's fantastic (especially for fans) in every way possible especially with the story and attention to detail but length was sacrificied in return.
