To be honest, the DS has some quality titles such as metroid, COD4, W@W and so on. But i must agree it has a loada Shovelware on it. Take a look at its library and see if anything catches your eye.
To be very succinct: Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney.
That game and it's two proper sequels (not Apollo Justice, which in my opinion reeks to high heaven) are definitely worth the price of entry for the Nintendo DS. Also, I highly recommend Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime. It may look cutesy, but the gameplay is killer.
Just because the games are made to attract a younger audience doesnt mean they're childish. Lots of the games on the DS that are seen as childish are actually very fun and enjoyable. Id give them a chance. Otherwise, look to GTA China Town Wars.

I'm 36, been playing games since Pong came out. I wish I would have known the Nintendo DS is for "kiddies" as I've been having a blast with mine. I have 70 games I believe and can honestly say that almost everyone of them have been fun.
Here's what I think you're issue is, you sound like your brainwashed that if a game isn't a thug simulator with lots of blood and guts it's not entertaining and fun. Maybe it's me, but growing up in the middle 80's to early 90's when gaming was just coming into it's own pretty much every game out would be classified as "kiddy" by your standards. They seemed to be fun for everyone back then.. what happened? Oh yeah, someone had the bright idea of saying I need adult situations and blood in my games or i'm a wuss and a kid.. it caught on and now every 6 year old wants to play GTA. Sad sad world.

There are a ton of awesome games for the DS. By saying it's too kiddy, you're presenting yourself as a narrow-minded tool. Expand your horizons a bit, and enjoy games for what they are made for, good ole fashioned fun.
the ds is a toy, you will find it at a toy store more often than not. it even looks like a toy, toys are meant for children thus they have that degree of childishness to them. playing games on an ipod or psp at least looks cooler.
the ds has its place however. games are games and everyone likes to play games whatever his age. adults still play "GO FISH".
to answer the question however, if you dont have an interest in the ds already then you probably shouldnt buy it. how in the fuk and why in the fuk would you want to be convinced into buying something that you obviously do not want?

Flame: on If you're a teenager, you were probably born in the 90's, grew up with Playstation/ N64, and got serious with gaming when PS2/ Xbox came around correct? I think you are used to graphics and 3D mumbo jumbo, so skip the DS and purchase a PSP. To your original question, I can not recommend to you THE game (unless monopoly DS comes out) since Grand Theft Auto is no Picross which is no Ninja Gaiden or Mario Kart. Comprehende?

Okay, I don't have to much to say since everyone else did a good job of putting you down for your idiocy. But i'm thinking the only reason you made this post was to cause trouble. If you really knew anything about the DS, you wouldn't even be saying this. I mean c'mon, theres a reason why the DS Lite alone sold over 100 million units. Anyways, a game doesn't have to be mature to be fun. Just check the top rated section on the DS page. You'll probably wanna play atleast half of them.

DS= Versatile. There's a little bit of something for everyone. I play anything and everything when I'm in the mood and I have to say I played Picross on DS for months it seemed, and then I played Lunar Knights, and then I turned around and dabbled in some The World Ends With You. Every time I feel like a new game the DS will throw something at me, sometimes it sucks and makes me cringe inwardly, but other times I'm totally thrown back by how much awesome developers can squeeze into those cartridges. In the end, as my opinion is with any console purchase, sit down on a site like GameSpot and look up the genres you like. If you see those genre's matching with the DS, buy it, if not then just don't. Quit listening to what bias people tell you and make the decision for yourself. You'll find yourself surrounded by more stuff you actually like if you do.
The DS's amazing exclusives like Pokemon D/P and New Super Mario Bros, coupled with amazing ports and remakes like Chrono Trigger equals win. DS may very well end up the best system ever. But the PS2... oh, the PS2...

Okay, every console I know about is sold at Toys 'R' Us in the same section. And how can playing games on an iPod or PSP look cooler? Do people even PLAY games on the PSP? I haven't been for a while(partially because I lost my charger). The PSP has a bunch of features that you'll use once and never use again. And with a library of games thats making people call the PSP "dead", the only thing you'll constantly use on the PSP is the movie feature... rarely. No wonder people hack theirs so much. Their too bored with it to do anything else. And then the DS/ DS Lite is mainly for gaming but the DSi has alot of features the PSP has. The only difference is you'll use them more than once because theres more to offer than just playing your music or looking at your pictures. You can actually play around and explore sounds or doodle and mess around with photos, as well as take pictures.
