Hey there Zelda fans!!!!

I wans to know how PH compares too OOT. Which is the better game?

I want to know if PH is more advanced than OOT. I mean, gameplay wise, storyline wise, and all around gameplay.

I know OOT is considered the best game of all time, but where does PH come? Does it come anywhere close to the OOT Zelda game???

Someone here must surely know!!! Sorry I never played OOT, I am knew to Zelda and PH is my first game. Thanks for the explanation.

Its a decent game but in no way is it near as good as OOT IMO, in fact its one of the weaker zelda titles as far as im concerned but thats just my opinion and i know many people loved the game so i respect their opinion of it as well. But these are two games that shouldn't compared to each other to begin with since they are vastly different in terms of scale production value and many other aspects.

The basic differences are: 1. The graphical style: OoT opted for a more 'realistic' look. PH went for a cartoony look. 2. The story: Ocarina is an epic tale with cosmic undertones and Phantom Hourglass is a lighthearted romp. 3. The controls: Ocarina of Time used the extremely complex N64 controller beautifully, and it basically set the blueprint for all future 3D games. Phantom Hourglass on the other hand is full touch screen control. 4. The characterisation: Phantom Hourglass lends its characters a more personal touch than Ocarina does, largely because of the large scale that Ocarina's story takes place on. 5. Music: Both are awesome, actually. Phantom Hourglass has a more 'personal' touch, but Ocarina of Time was epic as well. 6. IMO, PH and OoT would both be near the top of the Zelda series greats list.

PH could have been great, but having to go back to that stupid castle/dungeon thing over and over again was REALLY annoying. Otherwise the dungeons and bosses were good as well as the story

I dont hate it because of the cartoon, I "hate" it because it has annoying sailing, its REALLY repetitiv (even for a zelda game,) the items wasent interesting, the story was REALLY lame (even for a zelda game) and probly the biggest thing, I liked my over look zelda games :(

dont get me wrong, 3D zelda is good, but I liked the fact that I could get BOTH and both of them ahve their own charm

EDIT: when do we get the next four swords ;)

PH was my first Zelda game, and I very much enjoyed it (although repeating the Ocean Palace after every dungeon got a bit old). Then I played TP, and absolutely loved that game. Right now, I'm working on OoT, and I have to say that I'm a little underwhelmed. It's just so much more basic than PH or TP. I understand that it was the first 3D Zelda, and it was very revolutionary, but I just don't think it's on the same level as TP or PH. It's still a good game though. I'm going to try WW next and see how that compares.

the basic difference? everything you should ask for the basic similarities: they're both named zelda, and they're both dungeon crawling games starring link.

I think they are very different games. Phantom Hourglass is a unique game that was meant to be played on the ds.

OOT is THE zelda experience meant for a big screen, and to be played in 3 hour sessions.

PT is a pretty weak game, IMO, and is one of the few Zeldas that I put down halfway through. There are some that I just never got into, but this one was so unplayable that I stopped. As a number of people have mentioned, going back to the Palace and doing the same dungeon over and over again was very annoying. Sailing stunk. I don't really like moving with the stylus, but so be it. The puzzles were actually quite okay, though, and I did like the drawing controls. That's about all I can say for it, and given the minuses and the fact that pretty much all Zelda games are pretty good with their puzzles, PT doesn't really bring anything good to the table.

I enjoyed PH a lot and loved the use of the stylus - having played half a dozen Zeldas now it was nice to see a different approach to some of the push block/pull lever puzzles, even if they weren't all that hard. I thought the sailing was great, especially having played through Wind Waker's interminable sailing sections. I think one of the things it comes down to though is where your introduction to the series came. I played through OOT, my first Zelda, when I was 12 and I have vivid memories of the whole experience and have restarted it many times; my little brother's first Zelda was PH and I'm sure he would list it as one of his defining games. I guess OOT stands out for so many people because - as well as being a damn good game - it was either their first Zelda or their first 3D Zelda (a pretty big change).

like i said, they're both named zelda (not sure if saving her disguised self, tetra, counts as saving zelda, though :P), they both star link, and they both have the same dungeon crawling mechanic. the "core" of the series is there, but the change in controls (giving the most obvious example) show how different it is from OoT. you cant say "it's the same game but with new dungeons", just like you cant say all action games are the same.

I don't like 2D Zelda, or rather, the gameplay of 2D Zelda, and that's the game PH has, so I don't like it. OOT is great though.

In no way is Phantom Hourglass better than Ocarina of Time. However, it IS the only DS Zelda out there (so far), it continues the story of Wind Waker, and it is pretty fun, despite the lack of difficulty.

I never cared much for OOT. It's a good game, I just never got what made it "best game evar!". It's good, but a tad overrated. I like PH alot more because I like the sailing, the windwaker style, and the 2d zelda gameplay. It also seems far more light hearted than OOT which always treated itself like it was the Lord of the Rings. Why so serious, Link?

Really? Well, I can understand what you mean, but it is by no means 'overrated.' Yes, if that very game in its exact form (graphics, everything) came out now, it would not be 'the greatest game of all time.' But when it did come out, it COMPLETELY revolutionized the 3D videogame industry. I mean, it isn't even considered the best Zelda game by a very large portion of Zelda fans. Many hardcore Zelda nutz will say ALttP is the best ever. But OoT is the Best Game of All Time because it changed the direction of videogames and is iconic that sense. Until fully immersed VR becomes the new video game medium, it will be very diffucult to do what OoT did for gaming.

Did you play it before or after you played TP? People who played it after TP don't like it as much. I think it's because all of TP's puzzles are recycled OoT ones so OoT didn't seem as original.

actually, it's more like "something's wrong with the rest of the world" :P OoT was by no means overrated back then, when it truly deserved the title of best game ever. but guess what, the game's more than 10 years old now, and it hasnt aged as well as some claim. games that manage to do everything OoT did, but better and with more things now exist. not to mention majora's mask is better (although it's shorter...)

Will I have to lock you in the closet again, Bruno? Mmm... I guess. I finished it before I was really into games so much so I can't exactly look at it again with having a knowledge of today's video games. Majora's Mask was meh for me. It gave me Nightmares when I was little and the final boss was way too easy.

You missed my point. I have enjoyed other Zelda games more than OoT. LttP, TP, and Majora's Mask. They were more fun and interesting, but its just the ground breaking epicness of OoT that makes it the best game of all time. It's like car collectors. Today, we can make much, MUCH better cars than they did in the 60's and 70's, yet people still think that models made back then are the best, even if newer models do what they did better.

Its fine if you don't agree, but dude. Its THE definitive Zelda experience, if not the definitive 3D videogame experience.

Umm... I don't think so. OOT doesn't look so great on a "big screen" as much as it did back in the late '90's. Either way, its still great(especially on a 20" or something) and its still the base for almost every 3D action/adventure/rpg/whatever game today.

No comparison.

OOT is the best Zelda game ever. Definately, a top 10 Nintendo game of all time.

Don't get me started on Hourglass. Straight garbage! Spend your time on a Link to the Past if you are looking for a handheld Zelda.

actually, it's more like "something's wrong with the rest of the world" :P OoT was by no means overrated back then, when it truly deserved the title of best game ever. but guess what, the game's more than 10 years old now, and it hasnt aged as well as some claim. games that manage to do everything OoT did, but better and with more things now exist. not to mention majora's mask is better (although it's shorter...)BrunoBRS

It's just a shame that TP a 10 year newer game didn't turn out to be a better game.

from a techinical standpoint it is.

It's basically OOT 2.0. Although nostalgia is a big factor in this kind of debate
