with games like metroid prime, c.o.r.e, moon and call of duty, nintendo have proven that FPS can work on the DS. however these all have weak online multiplayer. 4 people is not enough to have a good shootout. im pretty sure that if nintendo used something like a modded Quake 1 engine, they could support 8-16 player online (socom on psp has been doing it). who is with me? who wants 16 player team deathmatches?!
Well Moon is coming out next year, though i'm not sure if it will have multiplayer. Still, the single player looks wicked awesome. I'm not sure if the DS can handle 16 people online at once. I'm pretty sure Mario Kart DS with eight people at once was the limit.

Mario kart only had 4 ppl @ once. I thought metriod was pretty good.
I agree, I would love my DS' online functionality to be worthwhile. Unfortunately, even if Valve starts developing DS titles, the games wouldn't be active enough :| Trying to find a game in Metroid Prime is more trouble than its worth. Plus, people would inevitably find ways to hack. So I agree, I would love a killer FPS, but I would only care if its single player was what made it amazing.
I agree, but that won't be possible for sometime. This is because the DS and its worldwide severs arent strong enough to handle that. It would cause a massive outbreak of people online causing time dyfing lag. Bullets would move at Matrix speed. Thats why the keep it till four.
World at War is fun online, the maps are small enough that 4 people is fine to me. However, once again...if the DS can do Super Mario 64, 3rd party developers need to stop being so lazy with the graphics. There's no reason why we can't get something that looks like Goldeneye or Quake on the DS.
I also wish that somehow, there would magically be a better way to move around in a FPS on the DS. Using the touchscreen and the left trigger is acceptable, but still...

1. 4 people IS enough for a good shootout (for me anyway). Wouldn't more people=more lag?
2. I think it already has it "killer shooters" (MPH,etc). Though I welcome to new shooters, it doesn't need another "killer" one.

That's what friends are for. you'd be better off playing locally with friends like that... i'd rather find quick matches with random people. You can have quick matches with friends as well. At least your friends won't do things to piss you off.
I think CoD 4 & 5 on the DS are a LOT better than those MoH games on the other hand-held system that sells well... the AI is INFINITELY better on the DS. If that's the "price" for the graphics difference I'll take it, and play my FPS on the DS while I'm on the road every time!!!
PS - Online sucks, who cares about it? Leave it to the hack-fools and jack-baits... Viva La Campaign Mode!!!
