Okay, so I've got this Wii here that my brother bought and it's just came in, and I find myself not playing it much.  I think the system's got a lot of potential to be a really fun experience, but so far since it's just launched it doesn't have that one game that just encompasses everything that the Wii stands for.  Zelda is still a Gamecube game, even though it's got some nifty control features and Wii Sports and WarioWare are basically just minigames, not cohesive ones.

So just as an interesting question, is there a game already announced for Wii that you think will define the system or what do you think that game will be?

Looking at the titles announced so far I think Super Mario Galaxy has the most potential to be the Wii-defining game.

I think games like Monkeyball, Rayman, Wii Sports, Twilight Princess and Elebits already define it.

It could be a long way off. Personally, I think Resident Evil 4 defined the GC and that didn't come out til the very end of its life cycle.

Yeah, these games are doing a pretty good job so far, and the games will only get better. God I love Twilight Princess and I can't wait for the next one.

Elebits I think is a step in the right direction, but the others you mentioned just seem like diversions to hold us over until the real potential is revealed.  Monkeyball's control scheme is neat, but when you think about it, it's basically turning the wiimote into a glorified analog stick, and I already mentioned why stuff like Rayman, Wii Sports and Twilight Princess don't quite define the system for me.

Along with Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 could also show us how the Wii could be a more immersive controller than standard ones.

Elebits hasn't defined the wii, but I love it! Its got a charm to it thats just loveable. I think Mario Galaxy will define the wii, its gonna bring something new to the Mario series again, and then Metroid Prime 3 is gonna push the wii's limits, hopefully aside from controls Metroid 3 will include something new and exciting. But deffinitly Mario Galaxy.

Maybe Super Mario Galaxy. All the Mario games did for all the Nintendo consoles(Save fore Super Mario Sunshine many would say). I really can't see any other game doing it. Brawl certainly wont seeing as Nintendo is thinking about allowing use of the cube controller.

I think all the other not-so-big-name games will define the Wii, like with the DS, because usually those are the games that try and creatively utilize the systems in terms of creativity and originality (for example, Elite Beat Agents for DS). But ya SMG and MP3 and SMBB will also conribute to the Wii's success.

WarioWare defines the wii perfectly. it uses all of the wiis attributes. it was made for the wii (unlike zelda). its fun. you'll enjoy see your buds hula hooping and squating and shooting bananas out of your nose. this game is great, i would suggest a rental if you dont feel comfortable buying it. this game is at least worth the rent. hope i helped.

i dont think we know yet....to me it's going to have to be an orignal series...dont get me wrong...Mario Galaxy and MP:3 look great but we've been down those roads and know what to expect...it's going to take originals like Project Hammer or another series to encompass everything that the Wii is about..atleast IMHO

I sure hope Super Monkey Balls doesn't define the Wii. It was a fun idea, but honestly the control scheme was flawed. We rented it, played it for several days trying to give it a chance, and I think maybe 10 out of 50 games worked nice and were fun to play. And I don't think the Wii should be defined by a game that has no depth. I think it has to have more. One with a great story AND great control scheme.

Super Mario Galaxy, bar none, The whole IGN team agrees that SMG is the "mecca" for the wii. they have even called it perfect and by the looks of it i would have to agree. i cant wait.

I believe that Metroid Prime 3 will define the Wii, although I'm not sure exactly why. Mostly for me it's the simple equation of Metroid + Voice Acting = :D (If it's good voice work that is...    or really, really bad voice work that'd be good too.)

I think Wii defines itself, the new way to manipulate games is what makes it so unique. Games that stand out like Wii Sports or Wario Ware just embody that innovation.

The Wii is self-defining.

Wii Sports It makes things both simple and insanely deep at exactly the same time, just like what the Wii attempts to do. For example, a game like tennis is made simple for casuals, grandparents, and girls who don't want to memorize a bunch of button presses or are intimidated by your standard controller. You just swing the wiimote and you hit the ball. On the flipside, Wii Sports is, for some of the sports, so much deeper than any other game out there. Using the same tennis example, sure, it seems simple to swing the wiimote, but you can do so much more than just swing. Control the strength of your hit by how fast you swing. Control the height of the ball by your swing angle. Put spin on the ball like you would (or approximately) in real life. Place the ball by timing your swing. You have so much more control over the ball than you might initially think due to the game's simplistic trappings. It's almost like having Virtua Tennis 3, coming to the PS3, but more realistic in its controls. For those who don't know, Virtua Tennis 3 allows you to do a variety of shots by pressing different buttons and holding them down for varying amounts of time to determine the strength of the effect, thus it is also a very deep game... ... except that it's far less realistic in how you make the shots and, probably, doesn't feel as great as making a real tennis swing. The Wii might not bring anything functionally new (ie. something that buttons can already do, such as Wii tennis vs. Virtua Tennis) but it streamlines it and gives it more realistic controls. The Wii: Simple yet deep. And Wii Sports captures just that.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl. SSBM nearly defined the GC for me. Multiplayer+Nintendo=awesome. For those of you who disagree and say SMG, or MP3, I'm completely fine with that as well if you want single player games(depending on how MP3 might be, although).
