if they're trying to reach the "western core gamer". Whats considered a serious gamer now is not the same as when the n64 was around. Probably the most significant thing that defines a "western core gamer" now in my opinion is competitive multiplayer. Look at the PS3 and the xbox 360 this gen, they both have relatively "hardcore" exclusive IPs with strong competitive multiplayer. Killzone, Gears of War, Resistance, SOCOM, Halo, ect. They also have games that don't neccessarily have strong multiplayer, but tend to cater to a more hardcore crowd such as grand turismo, fable, motorstorm, god of war, ect. A lot of people buy the xbox because of gears, halo, and fable. A lot of people buy the ps3 because of kz, resistance, and god of war. There's really no nintendo IPs similar to these, and according to rumors, nintendo is trying to enter this kind of market.

No, all Nintendo would need to do is let the third party handle things like Bioshock, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, GTA etc. and couple that with their franchises.

Nintendo will continue to do what they've been doing with the DS, Wii and 3DS. They're going to build third party relations, which will or will not work out. If Nintendo had half the support they had with the DS/3DS on a Wii2, they'd have one amazing platform lined up for consumers.

It'd be nice, but its not neccessary for Nintendo to keep making money, as evidenced by everyone in the thread saying "no we don't need new IPs" Since when was wanting new, original, exclusive games a bad thing? :?

nintendo has so many IPs and all of them are all time classics..... sony and microsft wished they had that...thats why they keep inventing stuff...trust me.. if they had nintendos IPs they would be milking them too.

Well I don't see what's the difference from milking old franchises and making new ones and also milking them. That's what Sony did this gen - they introduced a lot of new IPs (Resistance, Uncharted, Motorstorm, LittleBigPlanet, ect.) but they're now "milking" them with sequels.

I think what Nintendo needs is, indeed, a new and unique IP, but they should also make new instalments of their older franchises or new games with their classic characters.

For completely fresh games they would need someone like Rare was.

I'd like to see one new IP from Nintendo that could easily stand beside Mario, Metroid, Zelda, etc. Apart from that, they just need 3rd parties to bring their vast amounts of awesome over.

I agree about new IP but if it's a new shooter NO. The FPS market is oversaturated. It's always the same thing.

I think Nintendo needs new IPS along with using the older ones. Bringing back Starfox in a starfox adventure game would be nice to see; but also bringing along something new and creative that only Nintendo can do.

but where is mario, metroid, zelda, dk etc... on xbox or ps? I will not buy a nintendo system that doest have mariio but has GTA. I am proud to say that im not a COD gamer, or someone who only plays they same video game genre over and over. . sony and micro have brought a lot of non traditional gamers into playing games as well over the last couple gens. But people dont see that though. they just see kids playing nintendo and adults playing xbox. a E rated game can be more involved and challenging with its cartoon graphics as anything M rated with blood and realistic graphics.

All Nintendo needs to do is make a good online mode for smash bros, and it'll sell like cod. But one exclusive Nintendo FPS (not Conduit, nintendo could make a much better shooter if they actually tried) would be a welcome addition to Nintendo's massive library of first party games. It would be interesting to see Nintendo's, or more specifically Miyamoto's take on an online shooter.

If I wanted to play games like Halo or Gears, I would play Halo and Gears. Nintendo has zero experience with that type of game, and the market is already over saturated with them anyway. I agree that new IPs is a good idea, but we don't need any more FPS clones.

They don't need new IP's as much as they need to bring back old ones. Star Fox, F-Zero and Pikmin were all strangely absent this gen on the Wii and need to make a return. It's not like they have even been that many games in the franchise. Only five for SF and F-Zero(since the NES) and two Pikmin.

Most of Nintendo's franchises are Family/fun based so they should just leave the gritty/gory games down to 3rd Parties. Unless they want to try...

Maybe with the exception of some but FPSs like Call of Duty are actually as casual as they come. I don't why franchises like Zelda aren't considered hardcore while other games franchises just becuse unlike Zelda they have swearing, sex and blood and gore.

If any IP genre Nintendo should go after, I would say the open-world sanbox type games. Infamous, Cracdown, RDR, etc. To me, those are the games that scream "next-gen" and offer so much creativity. You can only do so much on shooters and others. With the new power of the system, I would like to see what they could produce in that regards (or have another developer with Nintendo supervising).

Star Fox, F-Zero and Pikmin, could be hardcore for this new console they are making, that's why they maybe skipped the casual Wii era . Nintendo doesn't need any new IP's , they got so many that they didn't even even use during the Wii generation .

Nintendo does not need new franchises. Maybe a few new IP's sure, that wouldnt hurt. But alot? No Thank you. I, like many other people, are perfectly contempt with Mario, DK, Samus, Kid Icerus (if the new game for the 3D proves to be popular/ a success), Zelda, Star Fox (I believe the Star Fox 64 remake is an attempt at bringing much needed attention back towards star fox), F-Zero, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Pokemon, Conduit (sure the two current games might not be the best games in the world, but with the right direction, the game can truely out shine all the other FPS), etc etc. Really, Nintendo has alot of Ip's that havent been touched in awhile, and Im sure more than a few of them could possible do great if Nintendo took some time to breathe life back into them.

The next gen Nintendo Console does not need new Ninty IP's like I said above, but what they do need is this; the attention of all eastern and western 3rd party Devs. Really, Nintendo's IP's (both old and new) are great, but so are alot of 3rd party IP's that have never found themselves on Nintendo's home console. 3rd party Ip's is what the Wii 2 needs, though I am sure that it would do just fine without it, it is my belief that Nintendo will be dissipointed if 3rd party devs dont try out their Ips on Nintendo's platform.

They definitely need new IPs. One of the best things about the N64 is that we hadn't seen Turok, Banjo, Rogue Squadron, perfect Dark, Conker etc. Gamecube reviving Metroid for a couple games was fun, but going back to it on the Wii was just sort of tiring to me. I'll never be tired of Zelda mostly because it's only released about once every five years, and literally every installment has beem an improvement, but Nintendo can't live off of Zelda alone for me.

Exclusives are a big deal but their just part of the puzzle.

IF they want to be successful, they need to lure devs in to score with multiplats. Lots of them.

Yep, as much as I dont want the Wii 2 becoming a HD triplet (lol, whenever sony and microsoft launch their next console) Nintendo needs some of those multiplats...

take a chance? wow that is not a good postign , nintnedo took the biggest chance this gen ,

they could have been bankrupt and you want them to do it all over again

and for the record they done what you asked,

by releasing nearly every main franchise on the nintnedo wii including ones that have not seen the light of day since the snes era

see this long list of nintendo franchises out

  1. punchout (remember the last punchotu came on snes) some 3 gens back
  2. kirby epic yarn-a first true kirby game on console since n64
  3. excite truck the first entry which was followed up with a wii ware excite bike and excite bots and the excite bike last seen its day on n64
  4. goldeneye -last entry was n64 obviously and that wasnt even made by them activision made it be happy with that cause ur lucky
  5. super mario bros 7 (this is the 2 d side scrolller series -the other 6 include super mario bros 1 2 3 lost levels world and world 2) not counting the ds entry this is the first time a actual sequal has been launched on home consoles since snes
  6. super paper mario -it is the first mario game to blend 3d with side scrolling giving it both fells of the nsmb game and a super mario galaxy game which is comign right up
  7. super mario galaxy 1 and 2 dont need words to describe this -10 .0 and 9.5 explain it all
  8. mariokart wii -this was the first ever mario kart to sell over 20 milion units on console ever , so its no suprise its on this list as a franchise
  9. metroid prime -dont need to saym uch
  10. metroid other m now this one is a true follow up to the snes super metroid another first time in yrs for nintnedo
  11. donkey kong country 4 --and you thought it couldnt get any more complete , dkc3 was the last game in the side scroling franchise before the bad n64 game came to be it was ok but not as good as this
  12. sin and punishment 2- this is the first out side japan release of the series n64 saw the first one
  13. marioparty 8
  14. wii line -new to nintendo
  15. pandoras tower yet another new upcoming ip
  16. wario land shake it -this is the first side scrolling warioland title to hit console the last outing was a 3d platformer knwon as warioworld
  17. mario power tennis -gc remake
  18. mario super sluggers
  19. mario strikers charged
  20. mario sports mix
  21. pokemon series -they have quite a few game on the wii
  22. dr mario online rx the last dr mario game was again released for n64
  23. links crossbow training -this showed what the zapper was all about
  24. zelda tp and sky ward sword
  25. kirby dreamland wii -coming soon
  26. tales of symphonia 2 -in coopaeraition with some third party they released this one

and all they need to release on wii is

fzero

stunt race

10 80

and wave race

and kid icaris -could potentially be on the next console though sicne 3ds is relaunching it with uprising \

and a starfox ,

that would conclude all nintendo firstp arty made games ever released and they would have a sequal so good day!

As far as I'm aware Nintendo have more exclusives than both Microsoft and Sony. Just because they don't appeal to the blood thirsty, war mongering , hate/violent filled casuals (and sometimes core gamers), doesn't mean their ips are not as fun or enjoyable as the violent games.

sounds to me like your saying more IP's = more FPS

no thank you.
