We'll basically all we have to go on is this concept art:

I was playing Twilight Princess the other day- the goron mines at the time - when I noticed how good the graphics were.

My guess is that since Nintendo put a lot of work into the TP engine that they'll probably just build off of it for the Wii version.

So what I'm expecting is something similar to the they way Metriod Prime 3 looks in comparison to Metriod Prime 2.

It'll probably be TP with higher res textures, better lighting, and a probably different art direction.

Please feel free to agree, disagree, or post your own speculations in the space bellow.

Wait, you expect them to just polish up a Gamecube game?

That's the credit you're giving them?

I mean I'm hard on them but I'm not THAT hard

Myguess would be a mixture of TP and something else unique. I love the art and graphics in TP so whatever the next Zelda will look like may set new Wii standards.

I would hope it looks as good as Resident evil 4 at least.

Well thats what they did for Metriod Prime 3 and it turned out OK... Why would they start from scratch if they're keeping the same overall look?

I would say Twillight Princess and Resident Evil 4 are actually about equivelent graphically speaking. For me RE4 looks a little better in SD, while TP looks better on my HD television set.

I agree for the most part, but where I disagree is with what you say about art direction (art style). The Link in that piece of artwork, looks exactly the same as TP's Link.

I wouldn't be surprised if their art styles are very similiar. The only difference being is Link might look older because the great Miyamoto said so when the picture was unveiled.

It will look better than TP, but not by much. I would bet that it will look sharper, and has better effects... but nothing that overshadows it's predacessor completely. Think OoT vs MM, or like you said.... MP2 vs MP3.

(edit)

As for the engine... I honestly can't say anything about that. I would assume it would be TP's engine, but more advanced... but it really depends on how much swordplay comes into actual gameplay this time around. If it's actual 1:1, I wouldn't be surprised if it's an all out new engine, or a highly, highly, highly modified version of TP's engine.

I think it will be different though

Metroid was released not even a year after launch.

On the other hand Zelda Twilight Princess was done in 2005 and had to wait almost a year to meet up with the Wii's launch

They've had half a decade now to build a better engine that takes advantage of the Wii's hardware

If it was just a touched up Gamecube game it would be viewed as not only a disappointment but also a very lazy effort on Nintendo's part

I highly doubt that they'll do that

in terms of technology...... compare Super Mario Galaxy to Sunshine.

Yes, Galaxy looks better.... but it wasn't like it was such a huge jump like PS2-PS3. It's a damn good looking Wii title, but it's a completely different atmosphere (oh yes, I went there), mood, effects (lighting, etc), etc. that made it look better.

You know as well as I do Jayson, it wasn't that big of a leap.

Zelda Wii will be Nintendo's best looking title for the system, but it's not going to be taking the series to new heights in terms of graphics. It's just not possible for it look waaaaayyyyyy, better.

Jayson actually makes sense? I actually agree though. Ninty will try IMO try to outdo Monster hunter tri which looks incredible to say the least!

TP already does.

On topic:

The next Zelda needs to be unbelievable in terms of graphics. It needs to blow me away. It has to be the game where people go, that's exactly the kind of graphics I expected on the Wii. Sort of like how Mario Galaxy looked so good. But I expect this to be waaayy better.

Here's to hoping...

I think it would be kind of neat if they made the game look like a painting, you know, like the concept art. That's actually something that I could see happening and it could work out very, very well.

The Wii version of TP had a slightly higher amount of bloom & some higer res realtime shadows. I think wii well see a large increase in texture size & better lighting effect. Im pretty sure they will add a few shaders here and there, but thats not important. TP looked amazing even without the excessive use of advanced shader effects. I know it had them, but not extensively

I'm telling you guys.... don't be anticipating a "HUGE" improvement, or you're bound to be disappointed, depending on how you look at it.

It's going to look good, of course... all Zeldas do.. this is a given.

All I'm saying is it's going to look sharper, and have better effects. Again, yes... it will look good! But don't expect it to be such a vast change, seriously. Especially if the art styles are very similiar.

I wish they fixed Link's combat animations. They always looked a little choppy. Check out this demo of TP Link combat, and compare it to how elaborate Link's moves are in Wind Waker.

Notice how much more stylish and tricky Link's moves are in Wind Waker. He spins around slashing, does small jump slashes followed by quick spins...

TP Link is just so boring. Slash, slash, stab. I also wouldn't mind hearing his anger/courage through the grunts and screams. This video is a perfect example of what I mean.

This is exactly how I feel. Some parts of TP still look absolutly stunning. The biggest draback is how blury everything looks.

Actually, I'd be ok if they used galaxy's lighting and texture system...just in a hyrule style instead of a simple mario one...

This. Also more colors and atmosphere. Half of TP felt like I was walking around a painters pallete with no brush in sight and no canvas to go on.

This is one of the few times I agree with ol' Jaysonguy here almost compltetely.

This title will be one of those examples of a gaming franchise that Nintendo cannot afford to put 110% into and use to push their current console to it's limits, i.e. Galaxy at the time of it's release. For all the love we all feel for Nintendo we do know when they short us and cut corners where they shouldn't. I do not believe, along with Jay, that they won't give more than their all for the next Zelda.

Well said buddy! Now we go back to the Zelda waiting game......

i was about to say "hey who revived this thread", because i thought it was pretty obvious what we'll be getting. think of twilight princess. really good, huh? the graphics team was repressed for not having graphics as good as monster hunter 3. they want it to be better the artstyIe is obviously the same from twilight princess. we'll be getting a really good game, visually speaking, with a styIe that will remind us of twilight princess. i thought there was nothing to speculate on this area.

I'm expecting it to be overall better than TP but only slightly. Parts that were ugly in TP will be most improved upon such as the blur and some blocky environment and texture.

im actully expecting the best looking wii game together with SMG/MP3 actully.

and i hope it will be as polished as the wind waker.

in terms of details and character models it was really good.

the style looks almost the same as TP, which isnt a bad thing. i just hope the story is like Majoras mask. i would like that in this one =)
