I feel it is making the DSi, the ds isnt made for music or supposed to be used as a camera!!!Also, why are they letting all of this lame crap being made. Noone is ever going to play "Hannah Montana: Oh No, Trouble in Hollywood" or anything else like that. I feel nintendo has made some very serious mistakes.... They are the best game company, but lately, they seem to be a bit lacking.

Nintendo has definitely made several mistakes lately, of course their revenue streams aren't showing it.

Their mistakes simply revolve around the alienation of the core gamer.  You can't blame that on them though.  In the past the core gamer has been the only market for games.  Nintendo has always attempted to break this tradition with games like Mario Teaches Typing or Sewing with Mario (NES) but they have never managed it.  This generation though, they have finally managed to appeal to someone other than the core gamer, and it is making them plenty of money.  Nintendo's doesn't need the core gamer anymore, so why should they bother trying to appeal to us.  We can complain all we want, but until we are the only market again (which may never happen) Nintendo will cease to be seen as more than a toy manufacturer.

Now that I have explained what they are doing, I do believe they are making some mistakes; however, making the DS a multimedia player, which is already possible if you happen to have a flashcard, is definitely not one of them.  Despite the size of the DS, it is still relatively easy to carry around and has a massive batter life compared to products like the PSP and iPod Touch.  It is not the ideal MP3 player or Camera, but it is definitely useful as one.  The main mistake that Nintendo is making is the fact that they are making their games far to easy.  The only games that present even a halfway decent difficulty experience are third party games, such as Metal Slug 7 and Contra 4, both of which are extremely difficult.  Square Enix is also throwing their hat into the ring by making their Final Fantasy remakes for the DS much more difficult than any GBA iteration they made.  It is a shame that Nintendo is not even trying to offer a difficult experience with any of their games, but it is something that we are going to have to deal with until, hopefully, all these casual gamers become real gamers and expect some difficulty and depth to their games.

I

I agree, Nintendo has made our games easier, more expensive, harder to find, and not as well. If nintendo doesnt step it up, we might need to resort to other plans of action

Um... crickets... anyway, I agree with almost everything hat has been said here. The games are far to easy! Still, i like some new new they're doing, like the Trauma Center Games, they are freash and different, but I feel this is kinda turning like GameBoy Advance, like 1 million titles of garbage and a few good titles.

I totally agree, i loved trauma centers 1+2. they were amazingly original. still, if an almost-gamer walks into a store and all he sees is hannah montana crap, he mite turn away.

I'd still say Nintendo is offering plenty of hardcore content for the DS, I'm just counting my blessings that I didn't get a Wii.

Try to take in account that Nintendo might be publishing a few "kiddy" games here and there, the majority of the games that does not appeal to the "hardcore" gamer are created entirely by 3rd parties. Nintendo is not entirely to blame.

Swallow. I don't agree with the DSi, but unfortunately it's too late. Who plays Hanna Montanna? I do! Err I DID (cousin's daughter's) and agree it shouldn't be made. But if someone else buys the stupid thing and enjoys it, why complain? If you haven't noticed, most of those kids games are based on popular KIDS TV shows and movies and made by the same developers. As long as they don't attempt to stray into familiar territory (Advance Wars, Castlevania, Phoenix Wright, etc) and instead stick with the same lame kids games, whose to complain? Sure they saturate a MAJOR part of the 3000 NDS games out t here (that's including Europe and Japan) but bickering on forums will do nothing. Instead, send them hate mail! Or not...

I think the worst thing they did (for the DS, anyways) was not release more colors outside of Europe. But that's just my opinion. :P

the worst ting that nintendo did was to allow the onslaught of mediocre 3rd party games to continue relentlessly and destroy the reputation of what potentially couldv'e provided a greater experience to gamers than the PS3 or 360 (which is possible, if they want it to happen), and alienate their videogame grassroots. in the past, I thought that SEGA had a hard time trying to satisfy its old fans with the enigmatic hedgehog, but nintendo has beaten them to that they don't seem to be able to put out a good game anymore.

Animal crossing hardcore? I think not.

Putting small upgrades to a system is pretty lame i'd say, most current owners of PSPs or DSs dont reveal the intent of buying a newer version. *WTF?! i just got a DS Lite/PSP Slim, and they came out with the DSi/PSP3k?* i think you had heard this a million times... But well, it does earn the company extra gold, so it's probably not a mistake to them at all. I'd say Nintendo has too much crappy 3rd party games released on their console, and if they want to make more money, they should really have either better quality 3rd party games, or faster releases of their namesake games. Although Nintendo games have great replay value most of the times, playing something over and over will sometime feel boring.

I totally agree. Friend codes? They're just plain ANNOYING.

And take for instance, Metroid Prime Hunters. Imagine the potential it had for online, but Nintendo had to lock a set of rules and only allow one gameplay function. I haven't even gotten the chance to play any of the other modes.

Metroid Prime had a "T" rating. It doesn't make sense to me that a game rated for teens (and up) has to have every small safety feature that are on the EC games. In my opinion, why should they really care if a 7 year old says his name online playing a game not rated for his age.

Everybody makes mistakes. Though I don't see it as a mistake. It's called strategy.

Though lots of "crappy games" (as you call it) are being released for the DS, Nintendo doesn't neglect core gamers.

We actually have lots of Bigtime releases lately like: Chrono Trigger, Luminous Arc 2, Metal Slug 7, Castlevania OoE, etc.

not to mention the KORG Synthesizer DS. (making my DS a portable DJ mixing device)

It's just that crappy games are easier to find in stores and are more common on the shelves compared to Core games. That's why you think that there are lots of crappy games when actually we have lots of games for all gamers.

The NDS what Nintendo made it to be - a gaming device for everyone, and I mean for EVERYONE.

The DSi is another Merchandising strategy. Gamers let go of their DS lites to get a hold of the new DSi for everyone to see and envy.

In the end, Nintendo gets revenue.

not having one universal friend code for wii and ds

i believe they're giving me plenty of core games, more than previous gens so no complaints here

and the DSi will have its own games, good music player, good camera, and it much more powerful than the DS, and only $20 more so i'm cool with that tooo

Now that I look into the matter, the only "crap" games are based on movies, TV shows, or cartoon characters. There's a ton (I mean TON) of decent games, you just need patience. Nothing like the top shooters are going to keep you as entrenched as you want. If all you're after is a big game, then replay that same one over and over.

The number one mistake Nintendo has made in my opinion is denying me my Lost Vikings for the DS. Then again it could be Blizzards fault... well, someone's to blame. :P

Casual gamers are getting rapidly tired of the Wii I would say focusing the Wii to casual gamers will affect nintendo a lot when they by any reason want to come back to us the hardcore gamers, there will be no trust on nintendo giving a real hardcore gaming experience after the Wii

GameCube had some great games, I don't know what you're talking about. Sonic on the Wii? What else is he supposed to be on? The Dreamcast 2? And some of the casual games are fun.

I agree with this. But the DS is still pretty good even if nintendo has lost the main idea...
