The Official Modernizing a Legend of Zelda Game Thread

Do you think the next Zelda game should be set in a more modern age? If so how modern? I think that a Zelda game set way in the future with high-tech gadgets and what-not would be cool, you could start out in the normal Hyrule and then discover a device that lets you travel in time to the future, instead of a master sword you could have a light saber-ish sword and instead of a horse you could have a hover craft or a motorcycle, and instead of a bow you'd have a laser gun and then all the enemies would have guns and stuff too and it would be awesome and Hyrule would look reminiscent of Coruscant, What do you think?

It's better if it's in the Modern Age because if there will be like guns and stuff it will be an FPS or TPS.mastetofthedark

thats why the majority of fans would hate it.... we dont want a shooter, we want an adventure...

Whether it's modernized or not, it would be very good to give the series some mature changes. Maybe a sort of open world design? Or an MMORPG, that would be excellent.

No it doesn't need to be a more modern style. In my opinion it just needs a new user interface. Like I said in a similar

chat, I like the idea of a young link in the forest living with a group of elves that were the protectors of the sword and then the village is attacked and link is forced into taking the sword and living with it. since he is a boy he hides a lot ... runs a lot.. but using some things in his enviroment (like a young boy you think and have to do against adults) such as his bombs... sling shot... etc.

But I don't believe a boy should be able to throw down on a grown person or and orc with the sword... his mission is to take the sword to its rightful place with the enemy chasing him all the while.. Its a good beginning I think

Nah, I love Zelda exactly where it is. What I'd love to see though, is a more realistic Zelda with PS3/360 graphics some day. Now that would be just a beautiful thing to see.SPD_WeBmAsTaH

I've always felt that if Zelda made the time jump, it'd have to go into the future, 3XXX era.

Futuristic upgrades to the weaponry would be nice. I guess something like a jedi in terms of his use of guns (pretty much no use), but something would have to replace the bow... or would it?

Nonetheless, I don't want to see Link firing off rounds like it was Gears or something. That would ruin it.

Maybe they should make a Zelda game with more emphasis on the Sheikiah tribe. The only Sheikiah are Impa, Impaz, and Sheik. I'd like to see more of that, in fact, I'd rather play as Sheik than as Link.

I think just running around as zelda for once would be a welcome change. Maybe the link in the story fails and its up to zelda

Modern Zelda? No thank you.

However, it would be nice to shoot enemies with something besides the bow and the slingshot. Maybe the magic rod from Link's Awakening - that shot fire. But then again, there are fire arrows.... but not in TP. Bring back the magic meter and some different (and much more badass, mind you) weaponry, and I'll be satisfied. Bomb arrows are hella fun though.

The most I would accept is if they did similar to Fable 2 and put in like early pistols and stuff, but thats it.

Im a Zelda fan, for god sake my picture or avitar or what ever its called is a super close up of Link's girly face. If I were too play a Zelda game where the plot was to become a George Lucas film I would go over to your house and hurt you for even coming up with this idea course it wasnt really your idea first, it was the guys who made that april fools joke called Zelda: A link to the future. I knew it was fake andthank god it was fake. Sure a more modern day zelda game would be cool like wind waker was more modern day but a frickin future zelda. I dont no why people keep saying its a bad idea to have it in the future since Metroids is doing good and Metroids basically a Futuristic Zelda game.........or is Zelda a Medieval Metroid....well either way Zelda in the future isnt the worst idea ever too say so is an insult to the developers who if they wanted to could make a Zelda in the land of pink elephants or something and it still be a good game. I just hope they add to or change the gameplay more than the plot details like setting and such. The Setting and story are fine its the gameplay thats getting overdone to deathwebbut

All Nintendo needs to do is keep the same core, and that includes the Hyrule setting and make some changes and additions, simple as that. The last thing we need is them monkeying with a working formula and ending up with another Sonic, who is so far gone, they can't find their way back to the working formula.

ok people, just cuz i said its gonna be in the future doesnt mean its gonna turn into an alien shooting fps where you travel to different worlds in a space ship, all i want is him to still be in the kingdom of hyrule except its al been given a futuristc shine ( there can still be moutains and what not with no civilisation) and the game wont be about runnong around with a gun in with an fps camera angle and then flying to different planets, and also link doesnt need a gun so how about instead u can have a futurised bow and arrow, when i said futurised zelda i didnt mean fps i meant a zelda like adventure in a future settingAAwiidog

2. No, i don't think a modern zelda would be a good idea, it goes angainst everything zelda is. If they wanted a future game like what you're talking about there are much better choices than zelda. Metroid, starfox, or a completely new series. my point is that it is unnecessary to change the zelda formula so much. Keep the time period, maybe throw out some rusty game mechanics (I wouldn't mind a new combat system a little more similar to GOW), but keep the same basic formula.

zelda doesnt need that much of a change. the series becoming stale has absolutly nothing to do with the scenery, its the story and gameplay. If zelda went into the future and changed nothing else, the game would still feel stale because nothing had really changed. zelda needs a change in story and gameplay. If you played MM, then you know how different it was from the standard zelda game. the masks, the 3 day time loop, being able to refight old bosses... thats the kind of change zelda needs again.
