The Professor Layton Unlimited Hype Thread

• Release date: February 10th. Expect it in stores on the 11th or 12th
• Developer: Level 5. A fairly new dev team with an impeccable track record. (Dark Cloud 2, Rogue Galaxy)
• Genre: Adventure, with an extra emphasis on puzzles
• Wi-fi: New puzzles will be available for download each week
• Fun fact: "Professor Layton was a direct result of Akihiro Hino's (CEO of Level 5) childhood love of Akira Tago's popular Mental Gymnastics series of puzzle books, which have sold more than 12 million copies to date in Japan." - From Wikipedia
• Fact #2: Akira Tago personally created all of the puzzles for this game. Shades of Brain Age?
• Fact #3: This is part one of a three part series. Parts one and two are big hits in Japan.

Excited yet? I can't wait for this game; I just love adventure games and they come around so infrequently. Level 5 is also one of my favorite developers. So, who's going to pick it up on launch day?

The game is practically out; WalMarts and some Best Buys have it, or you can expect to buy it on the actual 10th (Sunday), since it will be available next to the new cobalt/black DS Lite.

Had mine pre-ordered as soon as GameStop allowed! (A few months now.)

They made the most recent Dragon Quest game, Rogue Galaxy, and I think they're also working on White Knight Story for the PS3.

edit: Whoops, it's called White Knight Chronicles now, not White Knight Story.

Level 5 is awesome. DQ8 is my favorite rpg on the PS2. DQ9 is one of the main reasons I bought my DS, although I hate waiting so long. This game will definitely hold me over for awhile. I hope White Knight Chronicles turns out great because my PS3 needs some RPGs.

Okay, I run off to Best Buy after work to pick up this game. I called ahead and they told me that they had it in stock. When I get there they tell me that although they do have the game in the back they cannot sell it to me because the release date is the 10th. So they tell me that I have to come back on Sunday! Can you believe that??strieeyes

I just checked their website, and it APPEARS the game is in-stock in my local store. But the game is only available for Pre-Order online... damn... no store pick-up... I probably won't have time to get the game until Monday evening... I hope the game won't be sold out too quickly.

Same here ... I don't get so excited when it comes to puzzlers ...... but anyways I'm sure GS will give it an 8.5+ .....

I'm just a bit into the game, stopping for the day after completing chapter 2, and it's pretty nice. The puzzles at the starting parts of the game are probably ones that most everyone had seen or played in one point or another before, but they will probably have more difficult/challenging ones after you go further into the game. The drawings are clean and everything flows smoothly, anime/cartoon cutscenes are pretty nice too.
So, seems like it's quite a good game, i'll be looking forward to getting hitted with some nifty puzzles tomorow =)

Cool, sounds like this thread has garnered a little more attention for the game. :) I just picked up Professor Layton this morning. Some early impressions:

• Great production values for a DS game. Excellent artwork, and it looks like this title pushes new ground in terms of cutscenes and voice work.
• Unique. Between the presentation, puzzles, and classic adventure game feel this game is like nothing I've played on the DS.
• You can tell right away that Level 5 put a lot of heart and effort into this project.

Bottom line: it's a unique and quality game. Unless you hate doing puzzles I really don't see anyone being disappointed with this game.
