I understand the 3DS is king for now but a little love would go a long way!

I had even forgotten that was a game I wanted.Yea there's really only one game for Wii I'm look foreward to and that's obviously Zelda.

A whole bunch of games came out last year. Let us recount them.
No More Heroes 2
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
Red Steel 2
Prince of Persia
Monster Hunter 3
Mario Galaxy 2
Sin and Punishment
Metroid Other M
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Goldeneye
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Sonic Colors,
Epic Mickey
Most of those games were believed to be pretty good.
The wii is in a drought because it came out with a huge amount of software last year. This past fall was not as great for the HD systems.
The Wii had a great late 2009 to late 2010, it's starting to quiet down since it's in its 5th year, and from the 5th year on, systems tend to lack more powerhouse releases since developers are typically more interested in newer hardware, and are anxious for new hardware to develop for. Also, the 3DS is getting attention, because it is a Nintendo handheld. I don't think I have to explain how big a deal that is. Cloud_765
It is a longer lifecycle this time around. In the past your statment about system lifecycles would have been true, but things are different now. The other 2 companies have stepped up their game by coming out with big releases such as Marvel vs Capcom 3, Killzone 3, Crysis, Little Big Planet 2, Gears of War 3, Forza 4, Infamous 2, Twisted Metal, along with many other titles. Nintendo really needs another E3 like last year. If Nintendo can come out with a new IP, F-zero, Kirby, Star Fox, and a fourth game, they should be ok. If Nintendo could get big third party games like Xenoblade, and the Last Story along with the big four first party games, then that would be golden.
Not much to talk about, is there? [QUOTE="KBFloYd"]Yeah, it's shocking and weird that people want a constant supply of good games isn't it?they released like 10 quality games this nov,dec now you want another 10 just 3 months later? wow

So should we blame Nintendo for that?
Right now they just released Pokémon B/W and 3DS.

No one even mentioned blaming Nintendo, he was talking about the Wii in general. Read the opening post. The drought is pretty bad, good thing for me that I have plenty of old wii games to catch up on so it's okay with me.
I personally don't have enough money to keep up with every quality Wii game. I have about 30 good games, and I still don't have games like Monster Hunter Tri, Goldeneye 007, Tatsunoku vs. Capcom, Kirby's Epic Yarn, No More Heroes 1 & 2, Sonic Colours and Epic Mickey. I'm sure there is more too.
This will get keep me going until E3

Hate that attitude. Yeah cos everyone is interested in and loves every game that comes out  A great console needs to be getting a constant stream of good games. Nintendo fans have high standards!
Nah seriously some of those games deserve more sales. It's a weird situation.

It takes time for first party studios to pump out high quality games. Mario Galaxy came out in May, Metroid came out in August, Kirby came out in October, and Donkey Kong came out in November. Those 4 franchises are quite big. Kirby always gets the short of the stick because that IP usually comes late in the lifecycle. Kirby's Adventure for NES came out long after SNES hit the market. Kirby first hit SNES in 95. Dreamland 3 came out after N64 hit shelves. Crystal Shards came out in fall of 99. this was when the N64 started to lose relevance.
Nintendo cannot always be pumping out first party games. Third parties also pumped out a lot of quality software on Wii last year as well. No More Heroes, Goldeneye, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Monster Hunter Tri, Prince of Persia, Sonic Colors, Red Steel 2, and more. The last time Nintendo had a year like 2010 was back in 98. The N64 rocked in 98. F-Zero X, Rogue Squadron, Turok 2, Zelda, Banjo Kazooie, 1080 Snowboarding, the superior version of MK 4 and others.
No console maker constantly puts out high quality first party throughout the whole year. No console maker has high quality third party throughout the whole year. This is not just a wii-centric problem. This problem exists with all three console makers.

Everyone thinks that the Last Story and Xenoblade would not sell, but there is no evidence to suggest that these games would be financial failures. Not every game needs to crack 1 million to be successful.
Nintendo releases good titles, it can just be hard to get excited about most of them. I put that on a lack of marketing, not necessarily a lack of quality. Sure, we got plenty of games from the Wii in 2010, but how would we even know which ones were worth buying if we didn't frequent the Wii sections of Gamespot or IGN? The "casual player" that Nintendo's gone after for most of this cycle isn't going to latch onto E3 news as much as we do, even if they know what E3 is.
Of course, this isn't always the case; whenever a balance board, M+, or Mii mini-game collection comes out, we're flooded with hype about how it'll revolutionize gaming forever. But third-party devs get no help in advertising their stuff cause Nintendo doesn't feel they're worth the risk. And if Nintendo doesn't show confidence in the ones that do a good(or wonderful) job, why should anyone else? How does Nintendo expect innovation from other companies to move them forward when they refuse to weed out the junk software and let the good games make more of an impact?
It's quite obvious that, unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo isn't dependent on 3rd-party devs to stay afloat. Nintendo is very unique in that it has a heavy roster of first-party franchises to pull games from, but truth be told, I'll probably never buy another Mario game again. It's a good franchise; it just gets old after awhile. And while I'm really looking forward to Skyward Sword, if there aren't enough differences to set it apart from it's predecessors it may be the last Zelda I buy. Now, remember, this is just me talking. I'm not suggesting that everyone else feels that way, I just think Nintendo could be doing a little more to help new ideas grow along with their own.

I wouldn't necessarily say that Sony is dependent on third parties. Sony has a lot of first party studios. Liverpool, Evolution, Media Molecule, Santa Monica Studio, Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog, Guerrila, Zipper, Sony backs up the new studios started by people who used to be part of the Incognito studio, Team Ico, Prolyphony Digital, Sandiego Studo, Bend Studio, and a few others. Anyway, why should the people Nintendo waste money on promoting 3rd party games instead of its own game? All companies push their brands more so than a third party. When you go to staples, the sales people there push the staples brand of all the merchandise. Nintendo is going to push the games that the company itself produces because it means more money for the developers.
Nintendo has always gone its own direction. Nintendo has never catered to third parties. This dates back to the NES days. Nintendo put restrictions on how many games third parties could release at a given time. This the reason some companies put development teams under a different name. They did this in order to bypass Nintendo's restriction. This is the reason Konami was able to put so many games on the NES. Ultra games was a spinoff company that was a subsidiary of Konami. Ultra developed the Ninja Turtle games and others. The only reason third party support was on the NES is because they got locked into a contract into making games exclusively with Nintendo. Two major regions of the world chose the NES as their preferred console. The only time Nintendo was influenced by third parties is when Mortal Kombat came out. Nintendo lost a lot of sales due to the lack of gore in the SNES version of the first MK. When the second game came out, Nintendo changed its tune regarding video game violence.
Why should Nintendo care about third parties now when it never has before? When games like Mario Galaxy and Zelda sell between 5-10 million, why should Nintendo care about games made by third parties. Mario Kart, and Mario Bros sell in between 20-30 million, why should Nintendo care? The company has already made 10 billion times over than what it costs to make the Wii a reality.
The same goes with Sony, only to a lesser extent. Why should Sony shell out millions for DLC when the comapany can more money off of first party titles? The first Little Big Planet sold like 5 million copies. Killzone 2 sold close to 3 million. Resistance 1 sold over 3 million, and the second sold a little less. When both the first party games of Nintendo and Sony sell millions, why should they bother with third parties? Paying off third parties does not pay off in the end. Look at what has happened to Microsoft. The company paid 50 million for exclusive DLC in GTA 4 only for the content to go multiplat later on. Look at the Call of Duty map pack for Black Ops. Microsoft only had it for a month before it went multiplat. So, is it really in Nintendo's best interest to help third parties advertise?

They aren't worse than some exclusives just because they are multiplats, but because of what being a multiplat entails. Making a multi platform blockbuster style game is ridiculously expensive. This leads publishers to take fewer and fewer risks, which means the games have to be towards the most lucrative demographics which is what has lead to the rise of CoD style annual installments, with little progression or variety. Games developed exclusively for the Wii don't suffer from this problem.
