Basiclly the Wii could have full HD but the frame rate would not be good and it would cost to much.

Interesting really. What else is Nintendo hiding from us?

That's not news, or strange. If it had the proper outputs, the GCN was capable of rendering a HD image, albeit at about 2 frames per second.

What the Mod said. GCN could produce a HD image but it would have a awful un playable framerate. Wii who ever could probably do HD

If the Wii had proper output cables (and a GPU that could support HD resolutions), I'm pretty sure it could render something in 1080P.

It won't, but the point is it could.
Basically, almost anything can run on HD. Heck, PS2 could do 1080i (although with some errors as the software to enable it doesn't work too well). Dreamcast can run on component cables with a proper setup, as well.

Not really when I brought a DS and had the DS lite come out 5 months later idc, I was happy to spend $130 on that sleeker, cooler, more portable system.

HD doesn't equal bad framerate necessarily. Soul Calibur 2 among several other Xbox games ran at 720p without a problem. I just wish Wii supported it so if developers wanted to implement HD, they could.

Well...I can see 720p being possible. Very unlikely for 1080i. 1080p...just no. Betcha it wouldn't even move :S For the lower ones, though, can be totally possible.

No it makes the picture, more vibrant, colorful, clear, sharper, clearer, better quality. I care about HD, I have an HDTV, and no SDTV's. It hurts my eyes to play a 480i/p game even with components cables... Nintendo made a really dumb move with the no HD move... but whatever.

No it doesn't, if you have a quality set then no problems at all.
Everyone with a bargin bin set that gets crappy SD also get crappy HD support.

Like these brainiacs that think that LCD or plasma is better then CRT's.
If you don't know how to shop for a TV then you deserve a bad picture.

Quite a considerable number, actually. If you talk about True-/Full-HD (1080p), then the number decreases considerably. But composites only look bad on HDTVs/Plasmas/LCDs. On CRTs, it looks perfectly fine.

Mind giving a reason why? Because Nintendo said so doesn't mean crap. Most of us with basic computer knowledge could easily look at the specs for the Wii and say yes. Remember, upscaling is a LOT different than having textures running at the resolution of HD. It looks better for certain televisions, especially televisions with a native resolution of 720/1080p. My suggestion? Go away to your Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 thread, and stop crapping stuff up with unsupported claims. Again, "Nintendo said it wouldn't," doesn't hold water, giving the specs.

Eh no, my personal hdtv is pretty high end, it still looks like crap on 480i and yes I definitely know how to shop for an HDTV, in fact I own 4 very good ones. 480i on component cables or composite cables over an HDTV looks bad no matter what. 480p varies, but my TV's native resolution is far from 480p so it still looks underwhelming (mainly games), movies look great though.

i have a wii and i love it.. but it can't do 720P (in a way suitable for gaming). it's a shame but something we have to live with. You included. Mind giving a reason why? Because Nintendo said so doesn't mean crap. Most of us with basic computer knowledge could easily look at the specs for the Wii and say yes. Remember, upscaling is a LOT different than having textures running at the resolution of HD. It looks better for certain televisions, especially televisions with a native resolution of 720/1080p. My suggestion? Go away to your Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 thread, and stop crapping stuff up with unsupported claims. Again, "Nintendo said it wouldn't," doesn't hold water, giving the specs.

i have a wii and i love it.. but it can't do 720P (in a way suitable for gaming). it's a shame but something we have to live with. You included. Upscaling wouldn't do much good either, though it would help to let the game look more decent on a 72o/1080 screen.. -"Go away to your Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 thread">> that was ridiculous.. it's not critique on you and not on the Wii.. it's just a fact.

because it can't. now except the Wii as it is. a 480p fun machine. good night.

Wii is just not powerful enough to pump out graphics at a high 1080i resolution... Simple as that, end of debating... If you are expecting it, look somewhere else. Basically the Wii is ONLY designed for innovative game play, not eye-candy graphics that really don't mean much.

SD looks terrible on many HDTVs. Nintendo made a mistake by not supporting HD, plain and simple.

Yeah because like 10-15% of the population owns an HDTV :roll:

HD doesn't equal bad framerate necessarily. Soul Calibur 2 among several other Xbox games ran at 720p without a problem. I just wish Wii supported it so if developers wanted to implement HD, they could. solidsnakeEx3

HD isn't the problem. Wii lacks the ammount of ram, cpu and gpu spunk that they need to run the engines they are on PS3/360 ala UE3.0
