This has always been one of my biggest problems with recent Nintendo consoles back to the N64, it seems. I really like RPGs, but Nintendo consoles seem to be lacking in them. Granted, I'm more of a fan of Westeren RPGs, but still I love a good JRPG. Maybe Nintendo could try their hand at one. So do you all think the Wii U will give us more RPGs than Nintendo's past offerings?

With almost every system high profile RPGs never release until like at least a year or two after launch. The only one that I can remember that was closer than that was Phantasy Star II for the Sega genesis lol.

There is Dragon Quest X however which will hopefully be very good. THat should actually really help the system in Japan and make wii u a better place for RPG developers in the future

As it's not even out yet, and not all the games that are currently being developed for it have been announced, all we can do is wait and see, but I do hope some good JRPGs come out for it.

Monolith Soft (makers of Xenoblade Chronicles) are making a game for the WiiU. I don't think they've said if it's an RPG or not but hopefully it is.

I hope to see plenty of RPGs on the Wii U, and I'd like it a lot if Nintendo tried their hand at a traditional JRPG series.

Dragon Quest X, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and even Mass Effect 3 are all launch day or 'launch window' RPGs for the Wii U. Sure those are ports, but good games nonetheless. So I think for the early going, the Wii U has a decent array of RPGs. Hopefully more will come down the line.

It's been a long time since I played a good final fantasy game. I hope Square are working on it for the WII U. Also about that recently announced Kingdom hearts remake for ps3.... Square bring it to WII U too!

I can't believe what a wasted opportunity it will be if Square doesn't do this. :| I mean, why wouldn't they? Ugh.

Yeah, Nintendo already has a few exclusive Kingdom Hearts games. It's about time they get the original on one of their systems, lol.

I feel the tablet controller should be attractive to rpg makers with the ability to put menus and hubs on tablet. Look at how they flocked to the DS and made some great games because of the 2 screens and the fact that there was a touch screen. They could do a lot of cool things on the tablet.

Also, picture a game like Dragon Age Origins where you could have a bunch of hot button commands right on the tablet. You could almost make PC-like touch screen controls instead of using a normal controller to awkwardly do it.

JRPGs are becoming a rarer thing on on consoles really. Many of them never leave the East anymore.

I can't believe that EA announced Mass Effect 3 for WiiU and then today comes out announces Mass Effect Trilogy for 360, PC and PS3. Why bother releasing the final part of the trilogy on WiiU when they where planning this collection for all other platforms, would have made much more sense to release this on WiiU instead.

In related news, I'm going to freak out if KH3 isn't multiplat.Xat-chew.gif

i Cant believe nobody mentioned a exclusive Fire Emblem they are sure to make eventually for the Wii U. plus now with the 3rd party support, you will see plenty of Rpg's. Nintendo will be just fine with that genre.

That. Most JRPG are going to end up on handhelds, simple because many western gamers have turned their nose up at them in recent years. And the rate of WRPG release pale in comparison to the rate JRPG use to release on consoles. And I also found the fact that they didn't just put the whole ME trilogy on the Wii U as an incredibly stupid move by EA. I doubt many would have both ME3 for the Wii U anyway, but now its just a terrible deal. If they had put the trilogy on the Wii U, I would have bought it.

Same. I own all three games on 360, but would have bought the Trilogy set on WiiU if EA had offered it, but ME3 on WiiU by itself is a stupid move, and there's no chance of it selling now.

It is still very early, but I am in hope that over the next few years we see a good amount of RPG's on the system. I can see the touch-screen being good for a number of RPG's if it is used correctly, could clean up the often crowded RPG interfaces.

I completely agree that the WiiU needs some RPG's. That could easily put Nintendo back on the right track.

I agree totally. I mean until the Last Story and Xenoblade came out I don't think Wii had a single good JRPG, and it never got any WRPGs that I'm aware of :? Mass Effect 3 is a decent start. The trilogy would've been an epic thing to launch with, just the 3rd one seems pretty lame though... hopefully it's a sign that WiiU will get these big name games, and the next major WRPG like a new Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Dragon Age, or what have you, will come on WIiU as well. RPGs, as massive games with lots of replay value, are vital for a console imo. You are very right that N64, GC and Wii were all pretty lacking in this respect. For Nintendo to be back to "King of Gaming" rather then just "King of Sales", their console absolutely NEEDS lots of good RPGs!
