I got a new DS lite and it has a clicking sound when I flip open it, I have heard stories of broken hinges and I am wondering if this is a sign of defected DS?  My friend has a DS lite too and his doesn't make any noise when flipped open.

Oh dear, the spine could be fractured. The DS Lite should have a smooth feel to it when it opens up, so you may have to be a tad careful from now on. My original DS's spine broke from out of the blue though! I was just happily opening it up and a large piece of the spine chipped off, leaving the top half just to lopside :o

I mean it's still playable, but playing on a floppy DS is NOT fun.

Mine is made in china, probably that's the reason for the poor quality.  Anyone here has ds that's made in Japan?

Mine is also made in china and its in very good condition when i bought it and until now.

If that has a warranty, go and have it change/fix.

Quite a few posts there!

Well, DS's are manufactured in China, as with most things really. Many toys (like good old Action Man for example) are made in China, so yeah I don't think you can blame the Chinese personally.

Ok, just checking, cause generally Japanese products have better quality.  I don't think I can exchange it, it doesn't have any cracks yet.  It just makes that funny clicking sound.

Actually it makes that click because it is locking into a angled posistion, and that's normal.

That is correct. It's to prevent the DS from closing so easily. There are two positions which you can lock your DS: the first one is somewhat diagonal and the next one is a 180 degrees position. So you should hear two clicks when opening it completely.

it's supposed to click. that's how it doesn't move around while you're playing. >= common sense
