I hate to say it but I put down $250 for the 3DS just because I haven't owned a DS since 2007 and wanted to buy the games I missed between then and now (mostly Dragon Quest games and Shin Megami)

Nintendo hasn't had a good handheld launch since Game Boy Advance.... now that was awesome.... bought about 25 GBA games within the first year. I don't see myself buying many 3DS games this year.

Seriously who would buy Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D? 99% of people over the age of 16 have played it before.... They re-released on Gamecube when Wind Waker came out..... You're telling me THAT'S the signature game on 3DS? :(

A lot of people haven't played OoT. I'm 20 and I never have played the original in its entirety, so why not start now? I myself have about 10 games or so I want for the 3DS this year, which is more than I can say about any of the consoles.

If they haven't play the original OoT, they can either go to amazon and buy the 2-disc special with Master Quest that came out with WW on Gamecube or they can get a used copy for N64. If they have an N64/GC/Wii they can play the original at any time on a much bigger screen at a cheaper cost than buying it brand new on a handheld. Why would anyone prefer to play the exact same game on a much smaller screen? It's so bad that I think Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions might be the only game I would consider buying on 3DS this year. :D

Why not? I could get it on Virtual Console but I'd rather just get the 3DS version for the improvements and the extra mode. It's enough to entice me to get the newest version over an older one. You should probably just sell your 3DS now or try to refund/exchange it if you're dissatisfied, though for future purchases it's probably best to research first which titles are coming out in the year so you don't have any buyers remorse.

The 3DS might not have the brightest launch in the history of game launches, but I've found some games that are somewhat fun anyway.

But for you to rule out the entire DS game library is pretty laughable. The DS had a lot of really good games, maybe you just haven't looked through them hard enough. I agree that the GBA had some good games, yeah, but the DS has definately had as many, or possibly more.

I never said the DS doesn't have a good game library. I agree that the DS probably has an even better library than GBA. I just said compared to the GBA, the DS and 3DS have had horrible launches. When GBA came out it had Super Mario Advance and Castlevania Circle of the Moon as the two big launch titles as well as many other great ports and originals that came quickly after such as Breath of Fire, Golden Sun, Wario Land 4, etc. 3DS' only major launch title is a fighting game that came out two years ago on consoles. (So why would anyone buy it on a handheld?) I don't like fighting games personally so it doesn't interest me. It's next major title is a port of a game that is 13 years old and has been played by most of the gaming world to death. I really hope the 3DS comes out with more strong games by the summer and fall because it's really an incredible little handheld. I love my 3DS. :D

The launch lineup is nothing special, but in 2 or 3 years the library is gonna be massive. I'm patiently waiting for those titles.

I can't remember the DS launch line-up, but I had just 2 games for the best part of the year. Super Mario 64 DS and Wario Ware: Touched. Once Mario Kart DS came out, my collection built up so quickly. I hope its the case again with the 3DS. I am looking forward to a number of games, especially Ocarina 3D.

Goodness the thing's only been out for about a month. There will be amazing games over the years. People have got to be more patient. Besides, Mercs 3D is coming out!! Oh, and I'm 17 but have never play OoT, so I might as well do that now.

So far there haven't been a ton of great games, but the future looks pretty nice with Paper Mario, SMT games, and Tales of the Abyss. At least for me that is.

Those were basically the only two "worthwhile" games to come out for the DS at launch. I think Yoshi Touch & Go too. The DS launch was a joke. Why couldn't they follow in the footsteps of their big brother, the mighty GBA? Well anyway, I hope there's a lot of great third party titles that come out before summer. It's like they made the 3DS for seven year olds who will buy just about any cool looking game at Gamestop.

I'm getting OoT 3D. I haven't played the original in over 5 years and I figured this would be a great way to replay it. It is a remake with much improved graphics, along with an updated interface and 3D of course. Should be a great game to hold us over until Mario Kart 3DS and Paper Mario come out.

I've beaten OoT about 5 or 6 times now, still buying OoT 3D day one. Why? It's one of the best games ever made, and I'm not the only person with this same opinion of the matter.

I actually think Kid Icarus Uprising is more of the signature 3DS game this year then Ocarina of Time, but to answer your question the main reason anyone would want OoT3D is for a portable version of the game,I mean you can't carry a N64/cube/Wii in your pocket plus a screen to play it on.

This is why I am buying it, mainly to have a portable copy of one of the best Zelda games of all time in my pocket when I am out and about.

I'm 18 and I've never played OoT.

A starting line-up doesn't make the system.
True, it's not exactly a stellar line of games.
Honestly, the only thing I would get is SSFIV and mayyybee Nintendogs and Cats.
But it's what's going to come out later that makes the system worth a purchase.
(SMT, OoT, RE:Mercenaries, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, PW vs PL, Kid Icarus, Starfox, MGS 3)
And if you don't think you're going to like any of those, then maybe the 3DS just isn't for you.

So you have no interest in Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Super Mario 3D, Animal Crossing, Kid Icurus, Resident Evil, The Conduit, etc., or any of the (frankly underrated) launch titles? Serioulsy, man, why the hell did you even buy a 3DS? Or are you just saying you bought it so you can get away with talking crap about it?

I already explained in my opening post that I bought a 3DS because I had my DS Lite stolen in 2007 so I wanted to buy a lot of the good DS games I haven't been able to play in the past 4 years.

So why didn't you just buy the cheaper DS Lite or DSi as a replacement instead of blowing cash on a 3DS and then whining about not liking any of the games for it?

I've got to admit I agree with you, to an extent. I've been defending this system, and while I actually just bought OOT3D today, it gives me the feeling that we may not see a new zelda for quite some time. We know that Mario will be shown at E3, and others I assume, but based on major game releases being spaced apart, a new zelda may not arrive until holiday 2012. That's a long ways off. I still dig the console--a 6.5 for Pilotwings!-->are you kidding me, the game is GREAT--yet Nintendo, at least imo, is leaving rather sour, "we released the most successful console ever in the DS and you will buy this based on that" taste in my mouth. It's a mistake, really, because for one, the software should really be stressing the 3D. An article in the most recent EGM has nintendo saying that they are going to back down from the "3D as a play mechanic." That is a little disheartening considering it was the reason why people like myself bought it. Here's hoping, though.

By the way, what is up with EGM? They seriously only reviewed ONE game, in SSF4.

I have played OoT too many times to count and I am absolutely excited for it. Actually, I'm beyond excited, I'm ecstatic.

Who wouldn't want to play OoT on the go? I suppose now you'll tell me to hook my GC up to a tele in my car and play it that way.

there were only 36 m n64s sold , not all of them bought 00t so ,

ya pretty much and excuse me gba had the same problem at launch as any console/handheld its when the system is a year or 2old and still has not manygood titles-psp in the west has not seen many good games , and when it does youll always gotta say about time because the rest are ports of other games ,

so 3ds will be a good handheld and it will have a strong line up by the time ngp comes out and thatsall that matters and will be 100 or more cheaper

But you just got done saying that Super Mario Advance and Castlevania: Circle of the Moon were the only two launch games you wanted on the GBA. And one of them was a port of an NES game with a few touches. I agree that lots of great games came out after that, but it didn't happen in one month. I remember getting Advance Wars and Mario Kart Super-Circuit in like September/October that year, and Golden Sun in mid-December. The GameBoy Advance came out in June. If you ask me that's a pretty long gap.
