I'd like to see them come out with a new Gameboy that'll compete with the PSP or next gen PSP.

these topics are getting really annoying... but, here's what I think:

IF they announce a new DS, it'll be released in one year (maybe, two years). I just don't know why there's so much chatter about that, lately....

As for me, I wouldn't buy it, considering that I'm about to get a DS Lite on the next 3 or 4 days :P

Hardly, that is the least of their announcements. Quit the new DS threads please!

I read an article posted on these forums awhile back about nintendo taking out the gba slot on the ds lite and making it even smaller, I think it was official but not sure, maybe theyll announce that. But Im ready to move on from two screens, I would rather have the gba2 announced with one widescreen display and gcube graphics, now thats an announcement!

hmm.. I surely wouldn't buy that (I'd go for Sony's new PSP, if that happened), because that would mean "going backwards". The two screens were innovative, and I'd like Nintendo to keep that idea for their next handheld.

The only thing that I think Nintendo should work on a new handheld is: better graphics. Period.

After reading that article, I wouldn't be surprised if Ninty released a new handheld this holiday season...

Nah I don't think so, but it certainly is possible. However, I do expect Nintendo to release a new DS within the next 1-2 years. (A next gen, not a redesign)

Common sense says no, Nintendo are still doing well and would only castrate themselves if they did that, they don't release new hardware periodically to spite us, they do it to keep sales going.

With that said I suppose anything is possible.

the ds still has about 2 years of life in it. it would not be in nintendos best interest to release another handheld just yet.

What brought you to that conclusion? The fact I said I wanted great graphics? That I said I hate Sony? My Nintendo related avatar, signature, and name? You have some impressive skills at making well informed assumptions. For shame calling me or the poster who quoted me a fanboy from so little info.

Okay, first of all, one thing people seem to be forgetting is that IF there is an announcement of a new DS at E3 it would only be to announce that it is going into development and people seem to be talking about it like if they announce it it will be out for the holiday season this or next year. I think that it is a very real possibility that they announce that it is going into development, but it surely wouldn't come out to the market untill, IMHO 2010 or 2011 possibly holiday 2009. If we look at recent history the gameboy advance came out in 2001, 3 short years after that we had the original DS. The PS2 and XBOX came out in 1998 and the 360/PS3 came out in 2005. Looking at all this we can say that a new handheld should be going into development aboooouuuuut...now. However, the PS3 and 360 are already so good that there isn't much demand for new consoles, people are still buying them. So what else do nintendo and sony have to mess with in the next couple of years except new handhelds, which we can also see come out sooner historically than new consoles. Being a rabid DS fan I can say that there are many improvements I and many other DS fanboys/fangirls want to see. 1) Better graphics - While the graphics are still absolutely stunning, especially for those of us who started with the original GB back in 89, I would love to see better enviroments and more flowing textures. 2) Increased Wi-Fi capabilities - MK3 Online is probably one of my favorite things ever, but I love metroid and many other titles as well online, but they could add support for up to 8 players and make connecting with other players quicker also voice chat would be great, but I can also see how it could be superflous (i.e. sitting on the train talking to your DS might be a little awkward) 3) More ergonomical design - After about 30 minutes to an hour the fat of my palms start to get indented with the corners of the DS Lite and starts to seriously effect my button pushing efficiency and on rare pathetic occasions make my hands sore in the days to follow. 4) Smaller maybe? - The DS Lite is a great size, and fits in the hands in a good position (excepting the problems I listed earlier) but smaller is always better especially if performance and durability are not sacrificed. All in all I think it is going to happen soon, if not this year most certainly next year. I love my DS and my extensive library of games, so much so that when the first one I owned was stolen I repurchased EVERYTHING I had for it, IF a new DS were to be announced I would be ecstatic and would trade my DS and game library in towards the new one the first day it came out. I think it is a real possibility and shame on you naysayers for demoting the advance of technology. P.S. Fix that stupid L button problem......

FOOL!

Have you not heard of Reggie's words in E3 Nintendo Press Conference:

Reggie: "Since our Wii and DS systems are selling so good and better, we are not planning on any releases of new systems from Nintendo."

Well, even though there may not be a new DS coming out I still think that ideas are churning at nintendo that may start going places soon, not even in that the new DS is going into production, but I certainly think that the thought is bouncing through someone's head at nintendo. And at the time of my original post, no I had not heard the official statement.

They will announce a new handheld soon since Myamoto confirmed a Zelda DS 2 and Zelda Wii 2 in his interview according to wii-brasil (http://wii-brasil.com/?sec=lernoticia&id=14193) and we know every Nintendo system has a Zelda 2 in its last year.

Sorry for my English, my primary language is Portuguese.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear about the development of a new handheld. Reggie kind of eluded to it by saying they were pushing the envelope for the next big thing and going forward in innovative hardware. Sounds like they've got someting up their sleeves but who know when an announcement will take place.

For that reason they are called rumors, they can be true or false info!! Personally, I would say all is an invention of imagination and desires of gamers minds... Moreover, they hasn't announced new games of the heavy Nintendo franchises (Zelda, F-Zero, Star Fox, Mario, or the forgotten ones such as Punch Out! or Kid Icarus series) so the probabilities for a new hardware (new DS) are almost extinguished.

I've found Myamoto's interview in English:

Miyamoto: Two New Zelda Titles in the Works By TSA, in Zelda News on July 16th, 2008.

In an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, famed creatored of The Legend of Zelda franchise, IGN learned that the Zelda teams are hard at work on upcoming Zelda titles. A Wii and DS team are currently working hard on the next iterations of Zelda, and more surprisingly, Miyamoto had this to say about how the series may change:

"I don't necessarily think it will change that drastically [referring to first-person controls], but I think that Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas," he said. "And so the team right now is very focused on trying to find those ideas…

…The Zelda team in particular always works on Zelda titles. The core members of the Zelda team have for a very long time now been focused on Zelda games, and continue to focus on Zelda games, so they are hard at work and working away," Miyamoto said. "And then, of course, we have the DS Zelda team as well, so even there we're having some switching of people in and out where the DS team is mixing in with the Wii team and working on the Wii version."

Despite a lackluster showing and no new Zelda media, this new information should get speculation going amongst the fans.
