Hey guys,

I havent owned a nintendo portable since the gameboy color, i didnt stop getting the systems because i ever started to dislike them, more so cause i kinda lapsed somehow and got more so involved in normal home consoles.

I am thinking about picking up a DS tomorrow because i dare say that i would find it very beneficial when i'ms tuck somewhere that i dont really want to be, on breaks at college , when i'm stuck in town and waiting for a ride home, or on car trips..... but i 'm not sure what game to get, so i thought i'd explain the type of games i enjoyed on the gameboy consoles and what i'm looking for gameplay wise.

Zelda Links Awakening
Wario Land 1 & 2
Super Mario Land 2
Metriod 2: Return of Samus
Donkey Kong Land 1 & 2

Its weird that i remember original gameboy games more than GBC......

I was alot younger then tho, but basically i want something thats going to keep me going for a while, something i cant just finish in 4 hours or something, but is something that i can also pick up and play for 20 minutes here and there.
Castlevania Portrait of ruin looks nice but i'm not sure it would be long enough for a first game.
Advance Wars: Dual Strike also looks very interesting.
As does New Super mario bro's.

On other types of consoles i generally enjoy adventure games and rpg's the most but when ti comes to hand helds i almost expect nostalgic ****gameplay and can easily find myself playing platformers if that makes sense.

My post might be a bit too abstract and im' not looking for a definative answer by any means but more of a pool of oppinons that i can look and help me form my decision.

Thanks in advance and for your time..

Advance Wars is one of the longest games on the DS, it be a good place to start if you strategy games. New Super Mario Bros. is my favorite game on the DS. It can take up some time if you try get all the secret levels and coins but the main game isn't all that long. DS: Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Age of Empires, Final Fantasy III, Yoshi's Island, Mario Kart are all good games. You should also check out GBA games since they can be played on the DS.

If you enjoyed Zelda, Mario, and Metroid games on GB and GBC, you can play those on DS, too. Doesn't get much more nostalgic than that. And you can pick up all of the great GBA games you missed (Zeldas, Marios, Metroids... you get the idea :)) As far as DS games go, the DS is an amazing system. A lot of it's games can't really be played on any other system (Trauma Center comes to mind, even though it's on the Wii, the stylus provides for a different experience). Just look through the top DS and GBA games. You won't regret getting a DS.

If you like adventure games then you should probably buy the Phoenix Wright games or Hotel Dusk.

From reading your post I think that you would get the most satisfaction from playing Castlvania: Dawn of Sorrow. I've spent about 25 hours playing this game and the replay value is really good. Buy Dawn of Sorrow for your first game.

if for some reason i cant get it when i get my dslite i'll still get it later on at another store or order it, but is portrait of ruin also good?

Another question, are DS games region free or do they require the respective regions DS to play?

You should get a DS and the best game for the DS IMO is Mario Kart DS, and you should also try both Castlevania games there both very good

You can't play GB or GBC games on the DS, only GBA.

Congrats on the new DS. That's definitely a great choice for a first game as long as you don't mind all the text, which I'm guessing by your post you don't.
