I hear people complain about M+ all the time. They say it's milking, it should had been there since day one, its just another gimmick add-on no one will use...Personally I'm pretty excited about getting 1:1 controls, it's what we were asking for. But Nintendo clearly has an ulterior reason to release it now.

It's very very simple why M+ is coming out now...to train third party devs for making wii2 games. At some point a wii2 will come out. It may not be next year, it may not be the year after that or after that, but there will be a successor to the wii and it's going to have M+ or something more advanced in it from day one. Nintendo does not want the wii2 to be a repeat of the wii, as in devs rushing to figure out how to make wiimote games and ending up with a bunch of crap. Nintendo doesn't want another crap launch for their next console. They don't want another red steel.

I think M+ is a great move by Nintendo. The Wii can finally live up to its reputation.

And about the Wii's launch: it wasn't too bad. Twilight Princess anyone?

A gimmick? They found a way to improve the wiimote accuracy. that's no gimmick. and what you said about red steel probably isn't true.

Yeah, but that wasn't a third party game. Nintendo is doing this to give third parties the head start they needed with the wii.

No, just no

Devs have it easy when it comes to making motion controls for the Wii

All you have to do is take the Wiimote and move it in the direction you want and then it's recorded.

It has nothing to do with what you're saying.

said it in another thread already, but Nintendo's program here really reminds me of what it did with the expansion pack back with the Nintendo 64. Funny too how last time, they used a 3rd party game, Perfect Dark, to promote the expansion. This time, they may very well do the same thing with the Conduit.

Oh, well thanks for letting us know the real reason why Motion Plus is coming out, Reggie Fils-Aime. Glad you took the time out of your busy schedule to let us know the secrets that only Nintendo's higher-ups know.

But, if they wanted to give them a head start, wouldn't it make more sense to have told the developers about the M+ a while ago?

I mean, hiding it like they did just injured some games, like Light Saber Duels (is that how it's called?). That doesn't seen like giving a head start to me.

The problem is not making games for motion controls. It's making games on Wii's comparatively limited hardware and trying to get the games to look similar to the more powerful systems. That is what takes more time to try and maximize what the Wii has. And no I'm not bashing the Wii by any means. Just try and ask some devs who have made PS3 games and had to work with that Cell processor and they will tell you it's not easy.

Good point, but I don't think that's the reason for releasing M+. It's not that developers need the extra time to work with new technology, it's just when something new comes along they're always slow on the uptake. They like to sit back and see what everyone else does first or attempt something half hearted and cheap. Look at some of the earliest DS games for example. Very gimmicky, short and not all that fun. Now though quality games are springing up all over the place. If the Wii2 is similar enough to the Wii then it wont suffer this problem. M+ doesn't really fit into it.

It's not that simple, but there is a company out there that created an application where the developers basically just do what JaysonGuy mentioned and the motion is automatically programmed. The company is AiLive, here is there website:http://www.ailive.net/products.htmland they created a program called LiveMove Pro. You can read about it at their website. Either way, the developers have to purchase it, but it makes their life a whole helluva lot easier.

That is a really good point, it improves the Wii, and then there will not be that akward period of time when the WII2 comes out.
