Games don't sell out and stores will give you things just to buy the games.

Like if you waited until today to get Mario Kart are were not robbed by some store trying to scare you to preorder you could also pick up PES 2008 for 19.99, or a bunch of other titles for half price. Heck you could also get the guide for half price (though not too sure why you'd need it)

Today is a perfect example of why preordering is bad and why so many people buying Mario Kart are getting tons of extras for waiting until alunch.

What's stopping people form canceling the preorder and buying the better deal elsewhere?

Pre-order is just insurance to make sure you get the game on launch day, not a binding contract.

I'm not sure I get where you're coming from here. If the game's pre-ordered, then wouldn't someone have the extra cash for those extra games you mentioned?
And, wasn't EB giving free Wii steering wheels to people who pre-ordered Kart? That's a good thing isn't it?

So has anyone picked up Mario Kart that didn't preorder? I never really preorder, I just like to pick them up at launch. I'm just wondering how many of you are having issues trying to find it, or if it is pretty easy to find.

I see it is available online just about everywhere, but do I really want to wait for it to ship

Anyhow, hope to race everyone soon!!!

Ooops, forgot to add, has anyone got to play Mario Kart much, specifically US edition? I thought I read that it may have the same type problem as Brawl had when it came out.

The Eb near my house will not sell the game on launch day to anyone who did not pre order. I just put five bucks in then when I pick it up I only pay $49. I don't see anything bad with that.

@PSP_DSL_ROX: I haven't bought it yet, but I will say I have never, ever, for any game, not been able to buy on launch day without a pre-order. And I have pretty much every major game released for GC, PS2, Dreamcast, and Wii. The only game I predict that will require a pre-order will be GTA IV ( but I'm sure I could still hunt one down anyway).

I just got back from the store.

I went to Toys R Us and got Mario Kart and then I picked up Spider-Man Friend Or Foe (not a bad beat'em up, not worth 50 bucks but for 14.95 it's worth playing) I already have Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (one of the best games on the Wii period) I'll wait for Sega Superstar Tennis until it gets a bit of a price drop (then probably get it once the next big game is released lol)

I also picked up the guide for 9 bucks because I think I want to start a collection of games PLUS the guides. Maybe have a bookshelf that links directly to the games on the DVD shelf, we'll see how it goes lol

Plenty of Mario Kart copies to choose from, mine gave me a wink and I was all like "you're coming home with me"

Yup, preordering isn't worth it. I've never had a problem going to a store and picking up a new/popular game.

Waiting for a hot deal sounds much more appealing to me.

Yes, even for a game like this there are some deals fairly better than the retail price.

So instead of target I got it at toys r us. But I still had that preorder card. So today I spent that 5 dollar card to help out with mario kart wii.

No he's not.

They sold him a copy of Mario Kart, as long as he brings them back a copy of Mario Kart (unopened of course) he's in the clear.

I would never tell anyone to do anything illegal or unethical. All he's doing is using his power as a consumer to it's fullest.

I just got back from the store and I got the game. Yaaa!!! Went to Wal-Mart and they were sold out, but Kmart still had two. I'm pretty excited to play as I've never played any Mario Kart game before.

For the first time ever I got to see a Wii on the shelf at Wal-Mart, it was bundled with a zapper, but still the first I'd seen it. My friend was at Wolly World early this morning and said it was there and when I went around 2 it was still there. Then a family came over, seen it was there and had a big ordeal about it, made me laugh watching them. I think they would have punched any one that went near it, even though there were tons of people with no interest in it.

Anyhow, I'm off to play now!! Thanks for all the replies!

I've just decided to wait until the next big game. Toys R Us always has these offers, plus I have like 5 other games that need beating so I can wait, it's not like there was a deal like mario galaxy.

I honestly think pre-orders are only good for niche games like No More Heroes, Okami, or The World Ends With You. that way, i'm guaranteed a copy. *learns lesson from Ico*

well there not supposed to do that, and i would report them if i were you. the only way they can not sell a new released game is if they only have enough to cover pre orders, and for a game like mario kart, i garentee you they have extras.

I never preorder games in a brick and mortar shop. There simply isnt any point.

However, I do preorder online, and Im usually guaranteed launch day delivery, so I dont even have to get dressed and go out before playing the game ;)

What seals the deal, though, is the price. Every now and then, Amazon randomly drops the price of games. I know there was a brief moment where Mario Kart Wii was going for £19.99, but I didnt manage to get there in time after a friend told me. I preordered No More Heroes and Boom Blox, though.

1. Games don't sell out

2. By preordering you're making sure you pay the highest possible price for the game. Many stores reduce the price of new games within the first 30 days to try to attract more traffic.

3. You make yourself unable to take advantage of the freebies/deals that go on launch week to try to get you into the store.

It's fine for a grandmother or someone who is brand new to gaming to reserve a game because they don't know better. Everyone in this site I expect to know better and not reduce the power they have as a consumer.

Games don't sell out, retailers are very aware that if they don't have a game you're looking for you wont wait for them to get it, you WILL go elsewhere.

For me personally, I don't really like to pre-order because the only places that allow me to pre-order are too far away for me to get to on a regular basis. I want to go to local stores and pick it up, rather than driving a ways to get it, plus if there is a problem with it, I don't have to drive all the way back. Also, the closest store is Gamestop and I've had some less than pefect experiences buying games through them. I've only bought a few and haven't bought any for probably close to a year. The other reason is I don't like to pre-order online when it means I have to wait for shipping. I usually don't buy games on launch day, but if it is a game I want bad enough to buy on launch day, that means I want it ASAP.

On the other hand, I may pre-order if it is a game I really want and think it is likely it will be sold out or unavailable at local stores. Small town, two stores that sell games means they can sell out pretty quickly. So, if I want to be guarenteed to get a game that may be hard to find at first, I would definitely preorder.

I said I would never pre-order again after the Resident Evil 4 debacle (didn't get it until almost a week after release). But I preordered Mario Kart Wii because my friend was working there. And I got it release day too.

SSBB sold out at my store.. we only had like 4-5 extra copies shipped to us beyond the preorders(which were like 100+) and they were sold at the midnight opening within minutes.

In the UK both Mario Kart and Wii fit completely and utterly sold out on preorders alone

I preordered MKWii because in the uk you pay the same (hideously overinflated) price whether it be on preorder, launch day or indeed, 6 months later

There is never any reason not to preorder from Gamestop/EB/Gamecrazy unless you plan to just go to a store like Best Buy to buy the game. You get your money back if you want to, if you like the employee it helps them, you know you are getting the game, and more importantly for some games you are making sure that the store get it at all. If games don't get preordered game stores won't even get some in stock. As a big Atlus fan I know that well, especially during the last two weeks when I got the only copy the store had of Persona 3 Fes because I preordered one. I forgot to order Rondo of Swords and I had to call five different game stores and go out of my way to get it. The only reason they had any was because someone preordered one. I also preorder because I always get the special edition if a game has one.

Games don't sell out, retailers are very aware that if they don't have a game you're looking for you wont wait for them to get it, you WILL go elsewhere.

Stores want your business

SSBB sold out at my store.. we only had like 4-5 extra copies shipped to us beyond the preorders(which were like 100+) and they were sold at the midnight opening within minutes.

I'm talking about real retail stores like Best Buy and Circuit City (and in this thread Toys R Us)

No one should ever be buying games from places like Gamestop/EBGames

Jayson let people pre order if they want. Don't tell people you barely know what to do.Lunar52

Well I'm glad you like people paying too much money and missing out on offers that they could have.

I on the other hand do not.
