Sweet Game Preview - This gives a great overview of the games direction, plot, pacing and gameplay. It's chock full of short but sweet info.

Super Niftly Interactive Trailer - Quick but this is a neat way to get an idea of how switching to first person will feel in the heat of the action. As I suspected it seems like it will work great!

Sweet Action Trailer - What I really like about this video is that it show off tons of environments and puzzle concepts as well as the action. Quelling the concern many people had that the game would feel claustrophobic and confined to only mundane space ship hallways. There is obviously LOTS to see in Other M!

Enjoy and discuss everybody!

The concern that I have with the first person perspective has still not been addressed though. What if I need to dodge while firing missles? This clip shows how seamless the transition is (which was never in doubt) but no evasive action was needed as the enemies did not fire off projectiles. What happens when they do and you are stuck motionless?

Any Spoiler warning with the vids?

EDIT: I re-read what you said, and it turns out, I have seen all of these videos before..

The game looks like it could have been great if they didn't kill the control scheme. Maybe a little heavy on the cinematics as well, but I could have gotten over that. I don't think I can get over the controls.

LoL. Give me the $50 I need to try it out first. It's a catch 22 so I have to go with my gut which tells me I will find the controls annoying. I'm not willing to spend the money to figure it out.

Looking great. I almost wish I didn't get so many games recently, because I've decided to wait a little while before getting it since it's hard enough juggling the games I have.

well simple answer is "you can just rent". simple answer 2 is "every single person that tried it said it feels great after less than 5 minutes of adaptation".

I don't rent games. If I don't like the game, I've wasted money. If I do like the game, I've still wasted money.

The previews I've seen have all criticized the controls, and I know from my tastes in games that I won't like them either (auto aim is not for me).

If only Nintendo offered demos...

if you're unsure whether or not you'll like the game, renting a game either means saving money that was almost spent on a bad choice OR not missing a great oportunity to enjoy a great game. as for previews, the closest to someone criticizing controls is saying "the transition to first person is a bit weird AT FIRST". as for auto aim, it's the same as in metroid prime, or any other game with lock-on. you just don't hold a button anymore. and it's not like metroid is contra in space.

I could see if this were solely a FPS, an over the shoulder shooter like Gears of War, or even only a 2-D side scrolling platformer--then manual aiming wouldn't be bad. However, Other M is not that kind game. When you are surrounded by enemies that come at your from all sorts of angles--manual aiming would not work for this type of game. It would be too slow and frustrating.

Not if it were Diablo style, which would have been brilliant.

Ewwww...I wouldn't even play it, if it were like that. To each his own though. I think this is still one of those games that worth taking a risk with, when you're against the ropes about it. After all, it's a hardcore-first party Nintendo game--that right there increases its chances of awesomeness!

if i remember well, the diablo styIe for anything revolves around clicking everything around you as fast as possible. and just throwing it here, when you click a monster in diablo and your character runs after it, you guessed, it's still "auto aim/lock-on". difference is you have to keep the mouse over the damn thing while mashing the left button.

All three of those have done their purpose. It looks exciting, fun and correctly gives nods to all the cool stuff Samus has had at her finger-tips throughout the series. I would now dare express my concerns, but this board is very unfriendly to other points of view.

The concern that I have with the first person perspective has still not been addressed though. What if I need to dodge while firing missles? This clip shows how seamless the transition is (which was never in doubt) but no evasive action was needed as the enemies did not fire off projectiles. What happens when they do and you are stuck motionless?

GabuEx

Well then you get the **** out of first-person mode and dodge. :P

Hitting the dodge button at the right time allows you to evade an attack. So you'll have to flip that wiimote sideways FAST and hit that button to dodge. Sounds intense to me.

I think I read somewhere that you still can't move in first person, but you can dodge.

You can dodge while in 1st person. I believe in the interactive one, she shoots missle, then dodges out of the way at the last second. Or maybe thelast video.

EDIT: Beginning of the action trailer. Shoots a missile, then dodges the three purple blobs.

You could see in the GTTV trailer that exact scenario take place. An enemy fired projectiles before Samus went into FP, she went in shot off a missile and dodged the attack at the last second. You can dodge in first person.

I do not see much platforming gameplay anymore. Don't people like platforming anymore? If you play past Metroid games, you push the jump buttom as much as the shoot buttom. This doesn't seem be the case anymore. I love the platforming aspect of the Metroid games, so this kind of sadden me a bit.

Oh quit the whining and wait to play the game. From previews, it appears there will be plenty of platforming. Trailers mostly showcase fast pace action or the juicy stuff

they don't show the platforming because it isn't nearly as interesting to watch as samus doing a somersault+roundhouse+lucha libre moves+shooting.
