No just cause the main idea is fighting it still has absolutely ZERO to do with fighting. Post this in SW theyll agree with me :Pair_wolf_cubed
Zero to with fighting? Why are you people in such stages of denial? You punch each other, kick each other, bash each other, fight each other...
What else would you like to call it? It even says it's a fighting game on the freakin' box and you're still saying it's not? Unbelievable. People seem to think it's not a fighting game just because Sakurai said so. It was probably more of his mind-games. Remember "One smash ball per match"?

Lmao! Of course it's a fighting game. No one should have to debate this it's just silly.

...Well, people do, for some odd reason.
Technically, yes it's a fighting game, but it's not. Normally when you talk about fighting games, it's like Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, SNK games, Dead or Alve, Arcana Heart, etc.
It's......just not the same......it's like the difference between driving a golf cart, and drving a car -.-.

So if they made a game where you have to race around with golf carts it wouldn't be a driving game? Of course it would. I suppose Soul Calibur isn't "technically" a fighting game because you use weapons? kekekekeke.

At it's core, it's a driving game, like how Brawl is a fighting game at it's core...it is just not like a traditional arcade fighting game, so I still don't consider a "golf cart" game to be a driving game. And Soul Calibur IS a fighting game, wth are you talking about?

Super smash is more like streets of rage and marvel ultimate alliance than anything else. the only difference is instead of fighting bunches of bad guys togeather ur fighting each other. It would be like calling Mario Party a puzzle game webbut
Smash bros. is NOTHING like Marvel Ultimate Alliance. That's an Action RPG. You fight people, but you level up, have teammates, etc.

the way u fight is almost excatly the same theres an attack button then theres a button that does special moves and theres a grab button. the fighting is the same from a different veiw.

you have a good point.
People who say it isn't a fighting game and that it doesn't require a lot of skill have either never played the game or haven't faced anyone that is at least decent.Pierst179
It does require skill but so do a lot of other games it doesnt make them fighting games

Just... lolSuper Smash Bros. started a sub-genre of fighting called Arena Fighters or Brawlers (Power Stone, Red Hot Rumble, etc). It's not too far removed from how DDR and Guitar Hero popularized the Rhythm genre, which is a sub-genre of Puzzle games.
If someone walked up to you and said that Rock Band isn't a puzzle game, you wouldn't have a problem, even though Rhythm games are puzzle games. So why the problem when someone says Smash isn't a fighting game?

air_wolf_cubed was pointing out the ridiculousness of how fanboys sound by saying that hence why he said "Post this in SW theyll agree with me"
Sorry if there was any misunderstanding

Great minds think alike...
a little bit off topic, but although i see ur connection between puzzles and rythim games, i dont think rythim is a sub genre just because it involves things falling down/up the screen. its alot more about timing than putting things on the right place to score more. rythim games are a separated genre, IMOSuper Smash Bros. started a sub-genre of fighting called Arena Fighters or Brawlers (Power Stone, Red Hot Rumble, etc). It's not too far removed from how DDR and Guitar Hero popularized the Rhythm genre, which is a sub-genre of Puzzle games.

The only reason Rhythm games have been listed in the Puzzle genre was because there wasn't any genre discriminate enough to put the games in, so the first few games (Rez, Amplitude, DDR, Gitaroo Man, Guitar Hero) had to pretty much make it a genre without being placed in "Miscellaneous" or "Puzzle"
