You probably shouldn't get one, not if you are under the impression that a console as successful as the Wii would be dead in just 3 years.
There is a greater amount of good exclusive games on Wii than on any other console. It recently had a price drop too. I'd say it's more than a worthwhile investment.I an thinking about purchasing a Wii to play on a CRT 32'' TV. Is it worth it. looking at the nintendo console timeline you are right. nes 86, snes 91, n64 96, gamecube 01, wii 06... next console 2011?Nintendo will announce their new console this year and put it up for sale next year
If you're comfortable with that then grab one

I dont want to buy one realizing its old.ermPSPgamerWell you have three years worth of games to catch up on, so I don't see it getting old for a new owner any time soon.
Such a strange question. The PS3 and 360 are "old" as well, though it seems that a lot of people forget about that fact. And don't listen to anyone who says it isn't worth it because Nintendo's next system will be out in a year or two, as that is blatant BS. There's no facts or proof to back that claim up.
I personally think the Wii belongs in every gamers home, along with the HD console of their choice, based on exclusives. Sure, the HD's sure have pretty graphics, but what they'll never have is Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Pikmin to name a few, which are among the greatest franchises in gaming. The multiplayer is fantastic, with an emphasis on family fun instead of the impersonal focus on online gaming.
I wouldn't be without a Wii, and neither should you.

You're probably going to want to research Nintendo's console patterns
SNES 1991
N64 1996
Gamecube 2001
Wii 2006
So there's the facts
If this person will be ok with another console announced this year and released the next then he should buy a Wii

I'll say again, there's no fact or proof to back up the claim that Nintendo is going to release their next system in the next year or two.
You seem to forget about the times, that the competition and available technology are quite different then they were a decade ago, or even 5 years ago. All the current gen systems have a lot of life left in them, with new games and innovations being released at every turn.
Another hole in your "fact." A new system just isn't needed. Nintendo are still on top of sales, are still catering to the target audience of the casual gamer, and are still making a truckload of money doing it. Sure, their sales have slowed down, but they sure as hell haven't stopped. There is still plenty of time and room for more peripheral based games (Wii Fit, etc.), Marios, Zeldas, and Metroids.
Another one. Games sales are down because of the economic recession that is affecting the world right now. All companies are cutting down, gaming companies included. A new console so soon would not be a smart business move at the moment, as I sincerely doubt they would be cheap since they would be state of the art. A lot of money would be lost on their part, as sales would be lower than needed to make any kind of profit. Therefore, supporting the current system with quality games and innovations is the best business tactic, same goes for Sony and Microsoft.
Sure, I might be eating my words in a year or two from now, but don't list me Nintendo's console patterns and try to pass it off as fact. Things are much different now then they were then, and they govern the timing of such big releases.

All you said are guesses
This is a person trying to decide if he wants a Wii, seeing the facts about the release schedule in Nintendo consoles the facts are that every 5th year be on the lookout for new hardware
As far as what you said I have time.....
1. The life left in the Wii is not as long as you're saying. When the Wii launched the majority of homes had SD televisions, in the last year HD sets are now the majority and Nintendo has responded to that by saying that their next console would be an HD console.
2. Nintendo has said that the Wiimote when it launched is not what they wanted and that by adding Wiimotion Plus it's closer to what they always wanted to make.
3. Nintendo has the most sales of course but Nintendo has also said that they are disappointed in how the Wii has been performing the last year and a half even calling the status of the console "unhealthy"
The facts remain as I've shown. Nintendo has a 5 year window on it's consoles, have said many times they have not been happy with the course of the Wii for the last 18 months, have said that the Wii's controls were not what they wanted thereby warranting the release of M+, and they understand that HD is the way of the future.
It's not fair to tell someone that "everything's fine and there's no facts saying otherwise" because that's not true
This person is trying to make an educated purchase and it's only fair he knows both sides
It's not putting down the Wii or saying anything disparaging about it. I got my Wii at launch and love it but I also know when I'll be looking for my next Nintendo console

That still doesn't account for the current economic depression. If they think the Wii's status is "unhealthy", they would be in for a rude awakening should they release a new, powerful HD console of their own, as it would have one hell of a sticker price on it. When the Wii was launched, it was what? $249.99 in NA? $299.99? Cheap anyways, especially compared to the PS3 and 360, the HD consoles. If Nintendo wants to stay competitive and avoid taking a financial hit, they won't release a console in the next year or two.
To the TC: The Wii isn't dead, it still has plenty of life left in it, and many fun games to play. Even if by some bizarre circumstance a new console is released in the next couple of years, it doesn't mean the Wii instantly dies. There are still a bunch of fun games to play, the next system might not be backward compatible, hell, the next system might not have any motion control.
Well if you are looking for a system for some family-friendly fun the Wii is probably the best system to get with games like Boom Blox, Mario Kart Wii, and Wii Sports. However, if you are not a huge gamer, it is very likely that you will get tired rather quickly because the Wii does not have too many games that can keep you hooked for long periods of time. Luckily the Wii is rather cheap so it doesn't require too much of an initial investment. It really comes down to whether you are willing to spend $300-400 for 150 hours or so of entertainment.I an thinking about purchasing a Wii to play on a CRT 32'' TV. Is it worth it. I want to be able to have fun with my family but I don't want to buy something that will get old quickly.

I see that you enthusiast left the NES off of your list. Why would Nintendo kill their console if it is still printing them lots of money and winning the console war? They wouldn't, evident by the NDS.

They said they'd never allow themselves to be left flatfooted again.
From that point they've had a very strict release schedule with their home consoles and on their handhelds have had a very aggressive stance offering newer versions while the current version is still viable in the market.
