Top 5 Nintendo Franchises That Needs To Come Back

5. Wave Race

The N64 version was a success simply because it was so unique, the Gamecube sequel however didn't quite capture the imagination of the players, even though it was perfectly fine. The water effects were always amazing in Wave Race and it would be pretty sweet to see what they could pull off on the Switch.

4. Mother (earthbound)

It would be such a different and cool game to have come back from the dead, who knows how a current version of the Mother series would look and play today. Very very very slim chance we will ever see this though.

3. 1080 Snowboarding

The N64 game was great, they pulled off an addictive realism approach that focused on landing and being accurate that became more and more satisfying the more you mastered it. The Gamecube game failed and was eclipsed by SSX and the franchise died.

2. F-Zero

One of the best racing franchises out there, F-Zero was never a huge seller and abandoned by Nintendo a while ago. VGChartz got the brilliant Gamecube version at a measly 0.65 million in total sales. But a new F-Zero with proper online and the rival system from Forza would be incredible.

1. Donkey Kong 3D Platformer

Donkey Kong 64 was so awesome. Even though Rare was behind this one, it would be amazing if Nintendo tried to develop a 3D platform game outside of Mario. It's a bit odd really considering how much the 3D Mario games sell, it ain't hard to imagine a Donkey Kong 64 sequel of sorts selling like hotcakes. Not to mention that Donkey Kong has been featured in everything from the great Donkey Kong 2D games to Mario Kart on the Switch, everyone is well acquainted with him. It's a huge character for Nintendo that should have his own line of 3D games. Not to mention that Nintendo fans are thirsting for more 3D platform games developed internally at Nintendo.

Excellent list, agree with all. Everyone seems to be ALL about Mario Kart -- where I do love me some Mario Kart, the racing game I've been waiting for is a successor to F-Zero GX. I fell in love with that game but sadly I don't believe it had much of a following.

Nintendo should look into bringing back something like Gyromite reinvented for the joycon. Ice Climbers needs some love too.

Great list. Besides the ones mentioned, I would love to see StarTropics make a return. A lot of potential there I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't tapped into.

i wouldnt mind a duck hunt rail shooter remake

maybe make ballon fight and turn it into a multiplayer VS game with updated physics and HD graphics.

Kid icarus. kid icarus on the 3DS was brilliant and a new one on the switch would be great. I know it didnt do amazing numbers on the 3DS but was it that bad? smash is done too so the dev is freed up.

My list would be.

1 stunt race ..... the series hasn't had but one game and I liked it

2 though not by Nintendo top gear needs to return and this one should either be reminencant to the snes era titles or a rally 3

3 another good snes era game zombie ate my neighbors which had a spiritual successor called ghoal patrol needs to be made

4 wave race and please for the love of god more courses the gc one lacked in that department

5 1080 they were awesome games even for me who doesn't really get into the Tony hawk or Shaun white type games

1080 Avalanche was a great game. It just got buried by SSX 3, and it should have been. SSX 3 is probably the best snowboarding game there will ever be. But Avalanche has a better sense of speed, some really neat tracks, and the avalanche levels remain a sight to behold to this day. If it had come out six months earlier, I think the game would be more fondly remembered.

Also, I want an Excite Bots sequel.

@mariokart64fan: I know, but I need Pilotwings on an actual console for my TV though. I loved Piltowings 64, and the 3DS one was basically a 3DS version of Wii Sports Resort. Wasn't it called Pilotwings Resort?

I would love them to make a great F-Zero game. I loved everything about X and GX , tight controls , oddball alien characters , awesome music.

I think Nintendo has abandoned this franchise because of the wild success of Mario Kart in the past decade , and also GX had underwhelming sales . Basically theres not enough demand for it, especially since they've Incorporated elements of Fzero into Mario Kart (with the antigrav vehicles , stages) and in Smash Bros (stages, music, Falcon himself) . Nintendo just doesnt have much financial incentive to take a risk on a niche hardcore racer .

I would play a new 3D Donkey Kong if they cut back a bit on the collectibles. I like collect-a-thons but DK64 went overboard.

2. F-Zero
3. Mario Bros (not SMB, the competitive arcade game I think could be great with new features, characters, online, etc)
4. Wave Race
5. Mother

Kept Kid Icarus and Pilotwings out since they got 3DS games but those were at/near launch so it's been long enough to be worth mentioning.

These aren't franchises as they only got a single game/release but I'd love to see Pokemon Snap and Kirby's Dream Course sequels.

A new Jet Force Gemini and even Blast Corps would be amazing!

For me, Golden Sun. That's the only franchise that has been missing for some time that I care about. I would also like to see Paper Mario return to its N64/GCN style. But I don't think that counts for this topic since the franchise is still alive, just without its soul.

I don't particularly want Golden Sun back, but do wish Camelot would go back to making games that aren't Mario Sports.
