I haven't tried Touch the Dead yet, but I enjoy Point Blank DS and it got mixed reviews as well and from what I can tell, it's the same general concept. I'm seriously considering picking it up.
Oh my god I just came across this topic and it came to me. Yeah I've played it. I have it rented out right now through my gamefly account. Well basically it's an arcade light gun game but you tap on the screen instead or aiming a light gun. I didn't know that until I started playing. Well there's not that many checkpoints in the game which sucks, and what I thought was weird was the bad variety of enemies. There's just a regular zombie and janitor guy zombies, so it feels like you're shooting clones. But then there's some bats and rats. It's sort of repetetive if you're not patient. There's like no story at all though. It just starts with you coming out of your cell and you shoot people.
Personally... I didn't like it. It's tedious, there isn't much variety amongst zombies, and it takes FOREVER to reload the frigging pistol. Which wouldn't be a big deal, except you sometimes need the whole clip to get rid of ONE zombie. If you LOVE rail shooters, then it's probably worth a rent, but definately can't reccommend it otherwise.

I think it's a blast to play!  Yeah, the reloading can be a pain but that's what makes it challenging. I've also read that people don't like the graphics but I do.  No, it's not Metroid or Mario Kart good but it's pretty good nonetheless.  Before you give up on it completely, give it a try.  I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.  Besides, any game that lets you shoot the crap outta zombies can't be all bad. :)
Well, i managed to play this game..U dont have to expect anything from graphics, the time 'till u finish it is very short and also might gets annoying after a while but its something different from other games..U should give it a try but i dont think it worth buying it.8)
Forever to reload? What the hell are you guys talking about? It depends on how fast you can swipe your finger across the screen. But yeah it does such knowing it's beatable in a few hours. You guys are really underrating it though. I'd give it a 6.9.

What we're talking about is, on House of the Dead, etc, you fire to the side, and are reloaded. This has added the reloading animation AFTER you do the swipe, so you stand in harms way while waiting for it to finish swapping out the magazine on screen.

The only part where that screws everything up is the sewer part earlier in the game (where you later play the boss). It sucks because there would be like 4 zombie guys all at once, making it impossible to not get hurt because you can't shoot and reload in time to get all of them.
