whether or not i should buy a DS...... a bit about my gaming interests: im a sucker for JRPG's, in fact im considering buying a DSiXL simply for Chrono Trigger (never played it), as well as Final Fantasy 3 and 4, i grew up on the NES so i am also a fan of the old school nintendo franchises as well, SMB, Metroid, Zelda and so that aspect appeals to me as well. but i just cant quite decide whether or not it is worth it.

so please share your opinions of the system, the DS in general or the DSiXL, maybe suggest some games that are original and fun for the DS that someone unfamiliar should check out (regardless of genre)...... just looking for advice and/or recommendations. thanks.

The DS certainly has some great RPG's. But if you can wait, you might want to hold out for the 3DS. If you really don't care about it, then fine. But just keep these two things in mind before you make your decision.

1. The 3DS can play DS games.(So you can still play all the games you mentioned)

2. The DS will only have games made for it for another year/year and a half. (So you will not be able to purchase new games after that)

If you've waited this long then you can probably wait for the 3DS. If you have the money, then I say wait for the 3DS.

well i wonder if i get the DSiXL now, then wait for the initial hubbub of the 3DS to die down, as well as wait for the price to drop, and then upgrade....... those are kind of my thoughts to the 3DS

as far as games no longer being made, i dont necessarily agree with that, you have to remember that the DS has one of the largest installed user bases of any console (a distant second to the PS2), and considering they are still making PS2 games, i think it will take a long time for them to actually stop making DS games, though that is just my opinion.....

In that case, I recommend you just get a DS Lite. It's 130 USD and has a brighter screen than the original DS. No need to spend extra money on a DSXL- I have heard a few people say that the bigger screens stretching the look of the games doesn't look all that great sometimes. But I've never used one so what do I know? I actually had my DS Phat die on me. It will only stay on for like 5 minutes tops before it turns itself off. If I was to buy something, it'd be a DS Lite.

Well considering the 3DS probably won't see a price drop for a year or so, and Nintendo will give early purchasers incentive to pick it up. It's rumoured that launch systems will be bundled with Ocarina of Time.

True, but there are few games made for the PS2. Mostly sports games. And a lot of people played the GBA and the DS could play GBA games. But not many games were made for the GBA, and not for very long If you want to just have a DS for a while and if you are worried about a slow/stop in game releases then I would advise against getting a DS. Just wait for the 3DS. I think most people would agree that the DS will not have games made for it for more than 2 years.

I'd reccomend to wait till 3DS, but here's a list of RPG's I've played and enjoyed.

Knights in the Nightmare (not sure if that one counts, cause, technically, it's an RTS.)

Chrono Trigger

Final Fantasy IV

Pokemon Pearl/ Heartgold

Dragon Quest IX

The DS is certainly a great system for JRPG's.
