Every time a new DS comes out I have bought it. Now it's getting annoying. I wish the DSi was never made and they just made 3DS (because it does look a whole lot better). I just hate shelling out $200 bucks every couple years. Sigh, I guess I'll sell some of my older DS's

Do what I do: buy one system with each gen and only replace it if it breaks (which hopefully it won't if you take good care of it) or if it gets a really good upgrade (which might happen after a few versions). I still have my original DS "phat", so the 3DS is a welcome next gen upgrade from that. The 3DS has a lot of features and there's not that much they'll be able to add with future versions of it, so it should at least last you a couple of years.

I'm still using my Lite and never felt the need to upgrade. Models like DSi and XL are simply packed with extras. When you go out and buy every new model, that's your choice. That being said, i'm definitely getting 3DS on launch day along with some of the many games that I already desperatly want. It's inevitable that we'll eventually see upgraded 3DS' models but until my original breaks, I'm not expecting to upgrade that either.

Obviously you can't go back in time :) My advice is for the future. If you want the 3DS, get it early on and enjoy it for many years to come while ignoring any upgraded versions of the same system are made unless you think the features it adds are worth the price tag of purchasing the system a second time.

Well I quit the whole ds game right before the dsi. In general I had my fill of most of the games, and I decided I would wait till the successor of the ds came. I just thought there is bound to be an upgrade eventually.

no way. He should skip the launch 3DS and wait for the next version. If it will be like the DS Lite then it will be the definitive version

My wife isn't a big fan of me getting all these DS's either, but she knows how my enjoyment I have gotten since I got into the DS after the Lite came out. Haven't enjoyed a system as much as the DS since I was little.

The 3DS is a first second purchase for me, I think it looks fantastic. My only concern is "Missing" the big ass screens of my XL. But it's worth the sacrifice for the new 3DS goodness.

Silly part of wishes Nintendo would like release a regular and XL version of the 3DS but that ain't going to happen.

Well, considering the 3DS is a whole new console and not an extension of the DS, I'd say that he's probably gonna get it if interested. Hate to say it but the version that's being released is probably going to be replaced, as it is with Nintendo tradition, a few months later due to some stupid design flaw that could've been fixed before it was released (see GBA, DS). Then another minor features will probably be added to it, though they will each be released one at a time, each with a new version of the system. Eh, that's Nintendo's handhelds though.

Sorry but the DS Lite is/was one of the best upgrades in video game history. The Phat was so ugly and clunky, and the screens were so dim.

Just wait until the 3DS launches and a year later they make a new version with SUPERIOR 3D effects, wide touch screen and BETTER CAMERAS ooOooOo

we all know it's going to happen but should that stop you from buying it at launch? Well that's up to you but I'll be buying at launch even if some new superior version comes out the following year. It's not like your forced to upgrade.

I know what you mean. I got the original DS as a surprise birthday present. Thought about getting the Lite but no big improvements so I held off. Then the DSi comes out which really didn't add much (for me it's actually worse considering I still play my GBA games) and now the DSi XL is getting my attention because it was the newest thing, plus I loved the feel of the size upgrade. Now they have this one coming out and although I haven't got one since my original, it's insane how a piece of hardware is becoming old news after only a year.

I've been fighting the urge to go get a DS lite, DSi, DSi XL, and now that this one is comming out I don't know whether to hold out for it or wait a year after release to see what new technology they decide to surprise us with.

I had a Ds phat. And then I bought a Dsi. I definitely regret buying my Dsi, a waste of money. For now on I'm only buying the first version of a system, unless it's a must own newer version.

I must admit it is getting hard to keep up with handhelds in general these days. Back in the day it was a new colour etc rather than added extras of camera and such. The Lite I got 5 years ago almost I still use along with my DSI. I use them both however the XL is not for me. I understand who it is aimed for but really there is no need for it already being a a DS owner of any system but the 3DS although being similar in design is an experience upgrade. I think those who want to wait for the 3DS and unsure whether to get a Lite etc I would still get one as we are unsure the 3DS with have backwards capability for the DS games we have now and there are some gems out there for those who haven't experienced them yet.

I don't understand all the people complaining about "having" to buy all the versions of the DS. It's not like the DSL, DSi, or DSXL were completely new systems. They were obviously just minor improvement systems of the same generations, not a DS2, DS3, or DS4.

The 3DS on the other hand is basically a completely new DS worth upgrading too even if you already have a DS.

Seriously, Nintendo isn't forcing anyone to buy their redesigns. If you regret doing it you should have thought about that before hand.

It's just annoying when you buy something, and then the next big thing comes out you feel a bit cheated. I didn't buy the DSi XL for the record

Normally I just keep the original(DS Lite). But 3DS... this might be the different story. I mean, there are games exclusive to 3DS upcoming... well that is unless there are no 3DS games that keep my eyes on lolXxDaRkAnZeLxX
well the 3DS is a new system, not a remake, so you can get it, keep it and that would count as just keeping the original

Then instead why don't you:

1.) Trade in the DS's you don't use.

or

2.) Whenever a new one comes up, trade in the one you currently have to get a little money to help you pay for the new one.

If you hate it, why are you buying them? All the current DS' essentially do the same thing, you really only need one.

I've only ever bought one GBA, and one DS. I'll probably only buy one 3DS (unless it breaks). What's the point of buying the same thing over and over?

More people need to use eBay.

I sold my phat back when the lite came out and got nearly what I paid for it and used that money to buy the lite.

The DS Lite was my favorite model of the DS. When it came out, and it was all sleek and compact and bright white, I just had to get one. I think for a lot of gamers the original DS was too big and bulky, and they were waiting for a price drop.

They might at some point. Then again the 3D effect could be more difficult to produce on a larger screen.

No. I never had any interest in the DSi XL. It's not really a replacement to the DS lite or DSi. Nintendo never meant it to be. And I haven't even upgraded to a DSi... my Lite suits me fine.
