Well, it's pretty obvious it won't be as good as UE3 on PS3/360, but regardless, this is great news.

Please read for context.

But it’s not in our plans to bring Unreal Engine 3 to the Wii. It’s really designed for next-gen, high-definition. One of our licensees has been porting it, and they might be successful at that, and that would be great if they do it. It’s doable, but not something that we’re going to focus on.

I.e. Epic isn't doing it, and someone else is trying it, and it might work.

Even if that other company were successful, it wouln't mean anything: if Epic ported the engine, it could be licensed to other companies to use.  If a licensee ports it, though, it stops right there.  Anyone else that wanted to use the Unreal3 engine on the Wii would *also* have to port it themselves.  If it were even possible.

If a company is able to get Unreal Engine 3 to run on the Wii, it's going to be scaled down quite a bit.

it's possible for a dumbed down version on the wii but that's not saying much, it will never be like gears of war graphics.

These people seem somewhat dedicated to the cause and maybe they are willing to sacrifice a lot of time and money just to port it over to the Wii, the Wii doesn't even have shader model support so not just the lack of power is the problem here. Epic believe it is doable so I can only assume it is.

Let's just use the source engine.

See, the source engine uses shader model 2.0 and 3.0 but the Wii doesn't use shader models at all.  Uses TEV's and they are very different.

Yes which are better, stronger, faster, heck I'll even add smarter lol then shaders

This is just a perfect example of a lazy company
Since you need to code for the Wii a certain way you're going to see devs try to cut corners like this and more often then not it's going to be horrible.

can you blame them... why develop strictly for a system that only has a potential of garnishing 4-5 millions sales right now (completely unrealistic ratio of potential buyer:customer)? hopefully the Wii's sales will stay into overdrive... with a larger userbase, developers will have a reason to focus on the Wii.

I can blame them because it's lazy and they'll still charge full price when done.
It's not hard to code for the Wii it just takes time, a company these days doesn't care about their final product compared to how fast it can come out.

This is why EA showing it's support for the Wii and 360 but not the Cell is BAD for the Wii.
EA isn't coding for the Wii that much, all they're doing is taking the XBOX visuals and adding a little polish.

This is the same sort of deal, they're going in and seeing what they can scrap together to work on the Wii.
It's also why I'd like to see Nintendo copy Sony and team up with a few developers to get some framework done for these games.
You don't need to code for each and every game, once you get the template down you can use it for all games.

Exactly. They will have to take or downscale a lot of the things that make the engine so good. But it does open up the possibility of (downgraded) ports between the systems, hence more 3rd party support.

If they bring the engine to the Wii the same question remains: How much will they sacerfice and is that sacerfice to much to even bother with making a game?
