Is it possible to use a wifi connection from another persons house. I dont have wifi, but i tried searching for a connection, and found three. I chose one of them and went through all the system setup steps. But when i try to confirm the connection it fails. PS. the connection symbol has a red lock and needs a WEC code, but I fluked the code and got access.

well it has to be a blue unlock symbol and it will not say deny or something when you just make up a code but if one has the blue symbol you can connect to wifi like that and you don't need a code for the blue one

All three are locked? Around my house I've found about 5 connections, only one of which is locked. I have a WiFi connection myself but I can get on theirs when mine is down. It's between 2 bars of strength or 0, usually 1. I told my friend about it and he doesn't understand how the signal is so strong. I can't tell what house it's coming from. I was both delighted and shocked that it actually worked. I found it one day coming home from school just fooling around and seeing if I could find any wifi connections in any of the neighbourhoods, and I found a bunch. Basically anyone with a laptop has one.

To strengthen your connection: Hold your DS up to a window and see if you can fully connect. Especially upstairs windows. Basically go in every room in your house and hold the DS up to all the perimeter walls and test connection. This should work if any of your immediate neighbours have a wireless connection. This is how I play my DS via WiFi. I have to sit my DS on a window ledge facing my back yard and it's kind of ghetto, but you can't beat free connection. I don't know if it's actually against the law, or just unethical. I assume since it's not passworded that it's free for anyone in the area to use. It could actually be a free wifi servce coming from the restaurants nearby for all I know. But I'm 99% sure there is no way they can trace it anyway (they could probably narrow down who it is, though).

I also discovered a bit of a trick for strengthening WiFi signals with aluminum foil (tinfoil), but I won't go into that.

The short answer is YES, you can use someone else's Wifi. However, only if it is unsecured. If it has a Blue Unlocked icon, you can use it without a key. If it has a Red Locked icon, you need a WEP key to use it. If it has a Gray lock icon, then that access point is using WPA or some other security method that the DS does not support. Personally I do not like setting my router to WEP as it is easily cracked and WPA is not. I also use a Wii and it uses WPA as does my MacBook. I wish that Nintendo would update the DS to support the more secure WPA/WPA2.
