Well I'm a counseler at a after care camp, so I have my fair share of hell. But recently this week Kids have been bringing there DS's and Game Boy Advance SP's and I couldn't help to notice that almost all of them had something wrong with them. Either there DS's lower screen was cracked of the SP's screen all scratched, one kid even had a DS Lite which was broken almost in half at the folding part. I don't know but when I was a kid when I had something like that I took good care of it. Whats your view on this DS fans?

I've seen the same thing. Pretty much everyone I know treats their stuff like crap. One of my friends just got a DS Lite, and the touch screen is almost broken cause he presses to hard on it with his fingers.

I'm always dusting and cleaning mine.

Those kids sound really young. It wouldn't surprise me if I saw a nine year old with a beat up ds. Most of the people I know that are a bit older actually do take care of their things, though.

little kids arent really fans, they just want to look cool. To them the ds is the next gameboy even if they arent very good at playing games they'll still want it. When i was a little kid i would keep my gameboys in failry good condition. My SP did have quite a few scratches but that was only on the top. but yeah i still get scratches on my ds its kinda annoying but its gonna happen eventually.

yeah...

my brother's old ds (bought soon after launch) got worn down quite a lot, simply from use. My brother's a hardcore portable gamer. So like, his R button was very unresponsive and some of the other buttons weren't working all the time either. Me, on the other hand... my DS works and looks fine. I'm so careful with it because I want it to be in the best condition it can be. And I've always been that way with my video games and systems. I cringe when I see games and systems in crappy condition. It's like a crime against...idk what exactly but it is like a crime. hehe :P

Most little kids are destructive, thats why you don't buy them expensive things, but then again theres a lot of teens and adults that are very destructive too, I take care of my stuff, otherwise i'll end up having to go and buy it myself with cash that i've earned. I saw this one kids DS and he said he stepped on it and the top and bottom screen weren't really cracked bad but when you turned it on most of the screen was just black. The only damage thats happened to most of my handhelds and systems is like scratches on the outside, it always happens, my ds has a few scratches on the bottom screen from playing Ouendan a lot, and sometimes I use my shirt to clean it, which really smudges it and then smudge trails are left. Eh I guess i'll shut up now

Your handheld will always get damaged, no matter what you do, and it's really pointless to buy a bunch of stuff like armor+screen protectors+whatever. I've always been careful with my stuff, I remember that during the days when the GBA was popular, one of my friends had an immense scratch that went from side to side of the screen and it looked like Sonic, lol. But it depends on how the kid is raised.

Most of my friends have broken or damnaged their DS's. In fact, I know one person who had his for only about a month until it broke. I think the touch screen IS kind of delicate, but still...

Like most of you guys, I like to take care of my DS. Sure, it has a few tiny scratches on the case, but nothing huge.

My best friends little brother was playing on his DS lite, and I asked him what he was playing. He told me NSMB, and that he's on the last world. He then told me that he was on his last life, and that it took him 3 weeks to get there (slow or what...). 5 minutes later, he died, and they he became a complete idiot. He threw the DS lite at the wall, and it broke in two. I asked one of his sisters about it, and it turns out he has gone through 3 of them because of that. Now ever since that day, I never bring my video games over to their house :P.

It seems like everyone on this forum either take care of their ds's or hide that they actually don't.

yeah... i make sure to take care of my DS the best I can. Scratches on the touch screen are nearly impossible to prevet unless you get the protectors due to events like Poffin creating in Pokemon D/P, and sratches on the outside usually happen when its in your pocket.

One thing i really hate is when something internal goes wrong with console systems. I've had to replace little wires and stuff inside my xbox... now thats annoying.

yea, im really the only one i know that takes good care of games. My friends practically stab the touch screen and they never put the game disks back when their done playing so it gets all dusty and scratched.

I think its a case of kids taking things for granted. 20 years ago electronics weren't everywhere and the toys kids were playing with weren't so easy to break. It is possible kids are becoming more reckless in general, but I think the main issue is that kids are being given much more sophisticated (and fragile) stuff than they were in the past.

I did too, but my gameboy color was like a tank, nothing could break it. But what can you expect from kids? Ds lite and ds aren't as build as sturdy as gameboy colors or gba. So it is bound to happen. Just a shame to see such good systems be damage like that.. =,(

To some people, video games are more than JUST video games. I mean, I view video games as... well.... video games, but others think more of it. Very sad, I think.

I really do think kids should take care of their things... they just have to learn for themselves...

seriously, kids these days really need to learn what their possessions are worth.

i can promise everyone that my kids will have to earn what they get, like i had to earn from my parents. (sigh)..the good ol' days

yes that is true. dont you get? it kids are stupider now adays!! not like a few years back when there was GOOD cartoons and not no gayness potty hummor everywhere (akward humor is way funnyer). *sigh* sometimes i think my generation was the last good one...

enyway yeah i usualy pity the kid (when i see one) who has a ds or psp or something expensive cuz its just gona break and there gona waste there parents money on a new one cuz the kid is probably a spoiled brat that will annoy them untill they do buy a new one.... they gota get beat cuz its the only way they'll probably listen now adays, and sometimes i feel like doing it myself just for annoying me.when i was smaller (like 6) i took GREAT care of my gameboy color like it was my treasure. finger prints didnt stand a chance muh haha!! heh this reminds me of an episode of mind of mencia i saw a few weeks ago about kids on a leash cuz some parents cant control them... sooo true

1.when i was 9 years old I got my first GBA which was the first version of it, you kno it had the awsome button lay out and it didn't fold up so you could protect the screen. anyways' I took care of that thing so well that it didn't get one scratch until 2 months I got it! I was very understanding that my parents got my this device knowing that the paid a lot of $$$ at the time. 2.During the first year I got my DS (i was 12) I went over my cousins house for a party. my 9 year oud sister at the time asked me if I she could use my DS (now for thoses ppl who thix that was a stupid thing to do, It wasn't so stupid at the time cause she hadn't done anything to my DS.) so she could vs. my other cousin on her DS. So I said that she could use it and she went up stairs to my cousins bed room. So about 1 hour later I go check how she was doing and when I opened the door ( none of you are going to belive this) I saw my sister using a pair of scissors on my touch screen!!! So now from that day on nobody uses my DS especialy young kids. I`ve goten a new DS sincs then

I love how almost everyone on here believes that kids nowadays are more destructive than they were in years past. I'm quite sure that for the most part, almost all of us here were just as destructive with our stuff when we were five and six years old. I believe the reason why we have more stories about handhelds breaking now is that handhelds were a lot more durable back then. I can remember dropping my original Game Boy countless times and it still works perfectly, heck it doesn't even have a scratch! I'm sure that if I tried with my DS, it would probably fall apart.
