EDIT: changed topic title because people are problem thinking its a complaint
(this is not a complaint or anything just so you know:D) there are quite a few games that don't have voice-acting like mario galaxy, legend of zelda, metroid prime 3, Super Smash Bros. Bros Brawl (so far as we know) and super paper mario. i would enjoy seeing some voice acting in these games, wouldn't you?. and don't say its because "some characters just aren't cut out for voice" or "it would be wierd to see them talk" - this is only because nintendo has never put in voice acting before in there hit games, and people aren't used to it.

In SuperMario Galaxy there was a little voice acting, but most of it was text. there were parts where Peach talked at the beginning which i thought was well done, but they should have done it more. Mario just makes his usual sounds( i don't see him talking too much because his voice is all high and yipeee! and wahooand stuff). Rosalina had some voice acting, like where you went into the center of the universe, and she said "Go, Mario!" Bowser just grunted and made growlingnoises. they could have put some voice acting for bowser but in Super Mario Sunshine, the voice-acting was terrible. its all about finding the right voice. and even the other characters like Kamek (the witch person) could have had voice. Kamek just had mumble sounds.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption had voice acting from the Aurora units but it would be cool if we heard some talk from samus. it wouldn't be that great if they chose a high pitchy girl's voice, but just a simple female voice would have done well. The closest voice acting we got from Samus was her screams when she gets hit by an enemy.

In the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, it was all text. There was only shouts and grunts when something surprising happens or Link is swinging his sword, or Zelda is being shocked by something. There was just mumbling from midna who would have been better if she actually talked. Zelda could also have had voice-acting when she told her stories and talked to link, but you have to be sure you have the right voice or else it wouldn't be that great. Link could have small parts where he talks, but he's never really had any texts in the game either. hes the kind of character who doesn't even have texts in the game even when he is the main character. thats the same with mario, but it wouldn't hurt if we just got a little voice-acting from mario and Link.

Overall, i think it would be great to hear some of the characters talking. i'm sure some people reading this just can't see it happening, but its only because you've never heardthem talk before so its hard to imagine them ever talking when you've never heard them! lol. but i can see it happening; especially for side characters like Zelda, Peach, Samus, Bowser, Kamek, Rasalina, Midna, Ganondorf etc. and maybe a few parts for Link and Mario. I'm not saying all of these games sucked because they didn't have speaking characters, i'm just saying it would be cool to have it in a game. and plus, not everyone likes reading. Super Paper Mario is the kind of game to have text(because its paper 2D and3Dand not realistically 3D) but that game had a lot of story, and that means a lot of reading.

thoughts? i wasn't ranting, or complaining, just suggesting :D

Because they have been like this ever since the first game. I could care less if voice acting is a standard in video games nowadays; those games are classics. It just wouldn't feel right if Link or Samus started talking all of a sudden.

yea i know. Link isn't really for voice. but they wouldn't just out of nowhere start talking. it'd be in there next series. and they could jujst have samus say a few small things a first so its not awkward, and then later have her talk more. like i didn't find it awkward when Peach strting talking in SMG. i felt more comfortable with the game, like how the characters are part of the game. having text all the time takes away from the game. its like being deaf from words

No, that would be horrible. It's been like that forever, people have learned to love it. You can't just change that. You probably won't understand unless you grew in that era.

Judging from your avatar, you are probably a Halo fan. Well, how would you feel if some jackass 20 years later decides that Master Chief must show his face and have a sidekick ?

No, voice acting kills almost all games where it wasn't there to begin with.

Case in point is GTA. The best one from a character standpoint was GTA3 because the main character never spoke.

>.> i dont think a game like Brawl would really benefit from VA. other than the general fighting grunts and sounds.

EDIT of course there other games out there that would greatly benefit from VA (ie Zelda or Metroid) but in games like mario, eh. not a huge factor for me. yeah, VA in Mario games would be great and all, but its not like its flooded with text like Zelda is.

yea, i'm a halo fan, but that doesn't mean i favor one console over the other......don't judge just by pictures. and 20 years later, halo won't even last that long. and i happen to like Metroid a lot, and i guess by "judging" your signature, you must be a metroid fan. sorry if i offended you somehow about your era......

i'm not saying characters should talk all the time in game. they should talk in like those little movies, or when people are explaining parts of the storyline. like in Super Mario Galaxy, when they would talk about the power stars and explain the observatory, the texts totally ruined the actually feeling of being immersed in the game, as if your actually into the story. some games would be better with voice acting. games like SSBB definetly do not need voice acting. SSBB isn't that kind of storyline game; the Subspace Emissary probably won't have that much text, so VA is not needed. Games with storyline where it does a lot of explaining would be great for VA

When it comes to the core franchises, Zelda, Metroid, and Mario, I don't think we'll ever see the main characters ever talk, but I do think eventually the characters and the world around them will have voice acting.

I can't see Link nor Samus ever talking simply because they have no personality to begin with. Link is nothing more than an avatar to me.

If Nintendo ever went all out with voice acting, I think the best solution, would be to have the option to turn on/off voice acting and text. At least that way people can tailor the experience to their liking.

No.
Apart for maybe some very small phrases, Samus, Mario and Link should never talk in any future videogames.
I agree that voice acting should be implemented though, it works great in Metroid Prime 3.

So, as long as the main character doesn't talk, I agree a 100% that they should use voice acting from now on.

I don't care either way as long as the gameplay is still great I don't mind having to read the story. Although I think it would be cool that at the end of the next Zelda game right before the credits Link says one word.

To put it this way:
I hated Bowser's voice in SMS.
I hated Rosalina's voice in SMG

But for me, okay, they can put some voice acting in their games.

But WTF are you talking about? Voice acting by link? LINK NEVER TALKS!

I think Zelda and Mario games seem really outdated without speech, I'm all for Link staying quiet but I think everyone else should speak inc Mario.

I forone can't stand reading lines and lines of text in games, this is 2007 not 1984!!
