Wait, so when I turn the Wii off, the LED should be yellow right?

Because then WiiConnect24 will be on, but then my Wii was really hot and thats how I have been leaving it.

But if I am supposed to leave it at red, is there a way to make it red from the power button on the controller?

Well yes the wii LED light should be yellow for Wiiconnect24. If the wii gets hot dont worry, mine does too but it has fan that will always cool the system down. I never saw a wii light red, maby orange. If you want to turn your wii off hold the power button on the wiimote until the system turns off, if that answers any questions.

The only way to make it red from the power button on the controller is to turn the WC24 off -- i just hold the power button on the wii for 5 seconds to turn it to red.

Yes, the yellow light means you're Wii is on stand-by. However i believe a red light means its completely powered down. OH! and don't worry about it over heating, why would Nintendo make a stupid fault like that?

The Wii won't over heat so don't worry about that. Green = on (DUH!) Yellow = Wii on Standby and connected to Wii Connect 24 Red = Not connected to Wii Connect 24. To get red just unplug and replug the Wii in from the wall (doesn't matter though). No light = Wii isn't getting any power at all.

Wiiconnect 24 is just a scapegoat. The wiis that overheat have a defective heatsink. People think it is wiiconnect 24 due to them not understanding that fans don't cool down the circuit boards they just assist the heatsink during heavy duty. The fans pull out the hot air resulting from the heatsink disapating the heat into the air from the circuit boards. If the heatsink is faulty then it doesn't matter if the fans are on those circuits will fry regardless due to overheating.

A small number of launch units have defective heatsinks happens in all pc product lines from motherboards to video cards.
