I picked up my Wii at launch, but I head into stores seeing if they have Wii's and there is none.  For the GC release I remember walking into EBgames, a couple weeks until Christmas, and a couple weeks after Launch, and was able to walk in and grab a GC, with many in stock as wlel.  Were more GC made or did the GC just was not big?

The GC was on shelves at the same point in 2002 unlike Wii today.

the GC sucked and nobody wanted it.. XBOX was the Biggest thing last Gen and PS2 wag grabbed for the Game Library... I wisjh i ad got a Xbox instead of PS2 because it had a Great Game Library,Xbox live, And aLLOT of Online games and allot of better series than PS2. all gc had to offer was Old Series and a few VIOLENT GAMES and thats all it had to stand for... but nintendo is almost to the top again.

I remember my dad got me a Gamecube a few weeks after launch...and I know he didnt wait in line.

For the Wii we had to wait about an 1 1/2 on launch to get it.

No one wanted the GameCube. The Wii is really popular. I don't think Nintendo was expecting it to be as successful as it is.

I think they were anctipating a sold out launch then a gradual rise in demand like the DS had. Instead they got the success of the DS a year after launch. You know the DS in Japan success where every week the entire country sells out the entire DS inventory and people form lines several blocks line hours before the store opens. Japan where a store shipment of DS Lites becomes a console launch event.

It is true that GC was not a big success but xbox wasnt either.  xbox and GC sold about the same amount.  It was PS2 that killed last gen.  There was no competition for it.

Sellouts like this are a new phenomenon.  The PS2 was the first console to see shortages and the oNLY console last gen to do so.  Now it seems common place.

Actually your wrong. GC sold a lot better than Xbox when it was first released. It was only when the serious drought started that Xbox passed it.

the GC didn't have the backing to sell out.  The Wii not only was new and fresh but it achieved exactly what Nintendo wanted.  Word of mouth was great for Wii.  You had your hardcore Nintendoites but then they got their friends to play games and then people went out and bought one.  I know 2 of my friends bought one because they played Wii Sports and Trauma Center at my house.  The Miis were the best thing for Nintendo to do to bring non-gamers to nintendo.  Its like Mario Bros for the 21st Century.  it was mario brothers/duckhunt that put nintendo in every house in the 80s and its Miis that are doing it again in 2006/2007.  Rock on  Nintendo!!!!!!

Actually the NES and SNES both sold out at their launches. In Japan Famicoms were quite scarce including games. They couldn't make them fast enough to meet demand.

I walked into a store 4 days after launch, got my GC and went on. It wasn't that hard for me to find (one store, one stop and on my way, not even having to call). But the Wii on the other hand, here it is 4 months later and I haven't see one (other than the day I got mine) in any store I've been too.

Considering Stringer's latest press statements if things continue to go bad for the PS3 Kutargari and other Sony game division execs responible for the PS3 may be out on the street very soon.

Strange anyway that I hear a lot of "I can't find a Wii" but not anymore "Finally I got mine"... Is any store getting them?
