I am an owner of a DS phat, and have never played on a DS lite. If I had a choice, I would like to trade in my DS for a DS lite. I would like to know what the differences are because many people say different things. I am not a witness to any of these differences, so if you could tell me, it would be appreciated. THANK YOU.:? i'm confuzzled!! :?

There are pros and cons w/ the DS lite

Pros:

Brighter screens and better contrasted colors, Much more portable size and stylish look.

Cons:

The speakers are lower than the phat, so you might want to get some headphones. the hinge can break if you don't take care of it and lean the screen all the way back.

In short, if you don't abuse it, the DS lite is a good buy. But if you have a tendency to pound your buttons when you play it and aren't as careful w/ your DS, then keep what you got.

Basically, the DS Lite is smaller, lighter and 'sexier' than the phat DS in physical terms. The Lite also has a brighter screen with more vibrancy in colours and it comes with a larger, fatter stylus (you could always get bigger ones for the phat DS but they wouldn't fit in the hole in the DS). I have owned both and the only downside about the DS Lite is that some of the hinges make a 'crack' noise, like mine, which isn't a big problem at all.

You have to be careful with the hinges, I let my brother play and he leaned the sreen all the way back and cracked the hinge.

Besides the aforementioned selling points, there are simply too many little design elements on the Lite--its compact design, improved stylus design, better microphone placement, a scratch resistant cover on the lid, GBA slot cover, the subtle concave-convex play between the two screens that prevents items slipping in between and causing damage

i never bought the phat, but i played one, the buttons are better on the phat IMO, but the lite looks better(brighter screen, vibrant colors) so really its all preference.

i think when the ds lite is on the brightest the battery life lasts as long as the phat so imagine when the lite is on the lowest:D

Nintendo optimized the battery, screen brightness, and portability with the DS lite. If you like those, then buy it! I for one like my fat DS the way it is. It plays games, good, that's all I want from it.

This has been beaten into the ground but...

DSLite has multiple brightness settings

DSLite has a bigger stylus

Those are the only real tangible differences between them.

try to pick up a ds lite. it's the same "oh my gawd this thing is amazwing!" feeling i had when i first layed hands on the ds. but, after awhile that feeling fades (just like it did with your first ds) and you can then realize the ds you have now is just fine and dandy while remembering all the reasons you got one in the first place.
