Honestly I just heard about this game. I read a few years ago that Monolith was finally working on a Wii RPG but forgot about it. This game looks like Final Fantasy XII. I am now very intrigued after seeing this trailer. Finally, an RPG being published by Nintendo. Been awhile!

It has potential, certainly, and Im very interested. I just hope it has more polish than Disaster did.

From what I've seen a few months ago on this, it looks pretty interesting. Definitely worth looking into.

To be fair, Disaster was a good game if you could get past the lack of polish. This looks to be the same at the moment.

Disaster had so much promise, so much! But it seems it just wasn't delivered well. This could be the same but I sure hope not. I want this game to be great!

Meh, if you've seen one generic looking JRPG you've seen them all.. Unless it ends up having an outstanding story I doubt I'll rent it.

It looks alright. Nothing mind blowing though. I wonder how open the world is, how linear the game is, and what kind of control over the stats and character customizations are offered. I'd be much more interested in a wRPG.

yeah, theres nothing wrong with being known as simply a great rpg developer. very few developers even get that far.

The fact the daveloper is related to Baten Kaitos really disappoints me as that game's story and characters were terrible. Still, since the Wii is lacking RPG's, it might do the console a little good. I'm gonna play it anyways, i just wish people would give it up with the "Looks like Final fantasy" stuff.

It looks great! Since it's being published by Nintendo, I know that it should be of high quality! I don't play a lot of RPGs, though I might buy this game! I really like the look of it. :D

Nintendo is also suppose to be co-developing it. Nintendo should put some members from their other developers because Nintendo has like 5 RPG developers as either 1st or 2nd Party. It is just all of them make Handheld RPGs. But so far only 2 of the developers made 3D Console RPGs.

the story was well written. it had enough twists and turns to be engaging throughout and all of those twists were well earned. ill admit that the characters were poorly voice acted. but that presentation issue aside (and its being published by nintendo, so i doubt there will such presentation issues this time around), the characters were well written. the main character isnt simply a white knight. he has shades of gray and that alone puts him ahead of many other jrpg protagonists. the supporting casts all have personalities of their own rather than simply have one little tick that sets them apart from other party members. plus the player is incorporated seemlessly into the story and perspective perfectly.

Gonna have to disagree with you there. If you've only played RPG's on nintendo platforms then your opinion is understandable, but as a hardcore RPGamer myself, i've noticed how terribley cheesey and cliche the story was. It felt like torture to play through the game for me. Not to mention most of the "twists" could be seen long before they occured. The characters were no different, very little personality and almost everything was ripped directly from better RPG's.

ive owned many non-nintendo consoles over the years and played lots of rpgs on them. very little personality? im sure it was torturous even as you somehow managed to musle your way through the lengthy quest. the twists were well written. they were woven into the narrative in such a way that you can see how they developed rather than something so simple and cheap as "*snap* good guy is evil. move about your business now". plus id really like to play the rpg that the guardian spirit idea was taken from.

The game was average length for a console RPG, and i wanted to quit playing about 20 hours in when the combat got old. I forced myself to finish the game anyways. And the characters showed practically no personality whatsoever, it was as if i were playing a SNES RPG again. Scratch that, the characters in Breath of Fire had much more personality than those in Baten Kaitos. Baten Kaitos is about on the same level as a Final fantasy game in terms of characters and storyline. If you think that's a good thing then my point is already proven.

Since everyone is just throwing out names of mediocre games to compare this to, let me give it a shot.

First, the artwork is what Zelda:TP should have done. Fully developed enemies with segmented bodies and without needing to look like blatant ripoffs of regular animals found elsewhere in the game.

Walking, what TOS2 should have done.

Third person-view from behind and a big world to roam around, Arc Rise Fantasia could have profitted from this. Not sure if it would have benefitted from being real-time instead of the placement-real time the game employs. ARF does have that going for it, maybe it's good.

More than 20 monsters...thanks for not being Monster Hunter 3.

Not having creepy fat men or floating heads...thanks for not being Baroque.

Having a third dimension with activity inside of it....thanks for not being Super Paper Mario.

I would rather see Level 5's name somewhere on this product. I mean they made Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy! Those games were fantastic and I would love to see them playable on Nintendo consoles. Calling this game Dark Cloud 3 would simply put it in the "must buy a Wii for" category. And if you do already own one its like a door prize for loving rpg's.

I too wish this game were more western. Cowboy RPG's are so rarely done. I played one and I didn't like it very well. Maybe it was the cheesy anime look or the cheesy storyline, but it wasn't that great.

I think that covers all except Chocobo's Dungeon 3, Mystery Shiren: the Wanderer 3, and Pokemon Scramble, but those are dungeon crawlers and amazing games so they don't really have much to compare to Monado. So I'll leave them out of the discussion for now.

Level 5 is making 3 DS Titles 2 of them being RPGs. Also They would never beable to call this Dark Cloud 3 (Sony owns the rights to the Dark Cloud Series)

well then i give you credit for somehow managing to dredge through the 30-40 hours of this "terrible" game. the characters had plenty of personality. the main story driven characters each had their own motivations. since you chose to mention kalas, ill do the same. he did what he did for power and from his own insecurities. the twists werent impossible to figure, but thats what makes them plausible in the context of the story. they had been built up over the course of the game and lead to friction between the party members. the spirit is nothing close to the fairies in zelda. fairies were instructional characters for the help of the player. the guardian spirit in baten kaitos is the player. not only that, but it is the perspective of the player. the spirit pespective gives reason for the stationary camera and prerendered backgrounds. it allows for characters to speak to the player without breaking the 4th wall.

I dunno...

The game itself looks great visually, and gameplay wise. But I'm not a fan of RPG's that play like that. If it was an open world and open combat like the Crystal Bearers, I would definitely pick it up.

It still doesn't look bad, but I'd have to play it myself. Can't judge it off of videos

Is there going to be co-op in this game? Cause it looks like a real-time action-rpg which would benefit from it.

The story, to me, is secondary. As long as the game has great character development and isn't linear, it has potential.

I hope Monolith Soft still have what it takes to make a good game (remembers Disaster reviews) *shudders*Kenny789

Isn't the studio known for RPGs, though? It's understandable that Disaster doesn't live up to their other games since they were out of "their element."

That being said, I've never played a Monolith game and I'm not impressed with Monado so far. It looks really generic and it reminds me of a poor man's Final Fantasy XII. I guess it's still early though, I'll wait to see more.

Monolith(so far) has turned out to be a great purchase by Nintendo. They add a lot of the franchises that Nintendo lacks.

This game looks good so far, hope to see more (probably in October).

yea, I liked it since I saw it a lil while ago. But so far is TBA, which in RPGs for me means: do not get excited it has high chances of just being a JP exclusive. hope it gets here thus, at some point... more RPG the better

All the talk up there about Baten Kaitos and not ONE mention of its actual gameplay? I don't really remember the story or the characters at all, but the battle system was a ton of fun. I absolutely loved it.

An RPG with a great battle system can have generic EVERYTHING and still be all right. Grandia 2 is one of my favorite RPGs because it combines an awesome battle system with good characters and an interesting story, but the battle system alone is what makes it worth playing.

So hopefully Monado will have fun gameplay, especially considering the main character has a giant sword and it's a Wii game. Hopefully they lean more towards Baten Kaitos than Xenosaga when it comes to gameplay.... Xenosaga is just dull all around.

It looks decent right now. They need to polish it up quite a bit though (Improve those textures and character models please).

I'm pretty interested in Monado.

I heard about it a few months ago and it looked pretty cool!
